Ventflow Begins Recording New EP

Unsigned metallers Ventflow have began recording their brand new EP, which as of yet has no title confirmed. The band will be writing a diary of the recording process and has posted the first installment online which can be read below:

"Welcome to our recording diary. This will be a brief insight into the recording process of an unsigned band on a budget. Sorry, no record label to cover studio costs here! As a result, there will be no studio in sight! All the recording will take place in a hall where Steve and I normally do Martial Arts, and in my room.

"Hopefully the finished product will sound like a professional recording. Here's hoping………

"The original plan was to set up the drum kit Saturday morning, and start the recording as soon as we had everything set up, then finish up Sunday if we needed to. As with all recording schedules, they fuck up and everything takes twice as long as you originally plan for. We couldn't get hold of the drum mikes we were borrowing until Saturday evening, so spent most of Saturday running around getting new drum skins and finalising the drum parts ready to record the next day. Wayne and I didn't finish finalising the drums for the most recently written song until 3am! Pretty shit when we had to be up at 6!!

"Because we had such a late night, I didn't manage to roll out of bed until 6.50, which put us behind AGAIN! After a load of driving around to pick up equipment, and going back for a drum key we had forgotten (Wayne!), we finally got to where we were recording by 9 o'clock, way later than we had hoped.

"Before we could set everything up, we had to clear the mats out of the way. We cleared a corner of the hall and set the drum kit and PC we were recording with up. We used the mats to help kill some of the reverb from the room by placing them around the kit to act as gobos. The new skins on the drums sounded awesome! We also put a metal plate on the kick drum skin which brightens the sound up. Everything set up, time to record…..

"We used guitar pro to write the songs into (so we wouldn't forget them haha!) and worked out all of the tempos for each section of the songs so the click track would be perfect. We also used the midi guitar part we had programmed as a guide track, as we needed all eight of the mike pres on my digital recording interface for the drum mikes. We used an SM57 on the snare drum, an SM58 on the hi-hat, and borrowed a set of tom mikes, overheads and a bass drum mike from our friend Jon (ex Kilians Red drummer; cheers dude). It took until half 6 to finish recording the drums, which was pretty good going under the circumstances! Wayne and I had written some really complicated drum beats on a couple of the newer tracks the night before, so Wayne had to record them completely unrehearsed! Got there in the end though. Couldn't wait to go to bed after 3 hours sleep the night before!!!!"
