Bruce identifies the person in the crowd and also states "I really hate the stink of that" and "My lungs are trying to work up here, dude". The full video can be viewed below.

yea kinda sh**ty of him to say that. you've been touring for how long now and your gonna cry cuz someone was smoke a joint during your crappy show? guess what bruce,, maybe some of us need to smoke to listen to your shrilly voice. as a matter of fact when your done polishing your halo stop polluting the environment with your airplane.
pot is not a drug folks, it's just a plant. it has never killed anyone, unlike alcohol and cigarettes which kill thousands each year.

Not a Maiden fan, but if I was, its not just this one comment, but others he has made in the past that shows a total disrespect for his fans. If I was a Maiden fan, I don't think I would support him. He needs to remember who pays his bills.

Pot is a drug, and it does kill people. It has the same negative affects that cigarettes have, except it impairs your ability to think rationally.
Everywhere is non-smoking now. It's an evolution of our society. Why should non-smokers suffer from second-hand smoke? It is not our vice, it is not our addiction.
Saying pot is a plant and not a drug is silly; it's like saying alcohol is merely the by-product of a putrefaction process. Tetrahydrocannabinol, the stuff in pot, is a psychoactive substance, though not particularly dangerous in and of itself. Smoke inhalation does affect your ability to sing, though, and aside from that, the sh** reeks and it's really rude to smoke anything in such an enclosed and crowded place.

It's a concert - if you think smelling pot is "suffering" then I doubt you'll be tough enough to withstand a mosh pit, heat exhaustion, loosing people in the dark etc. Over here smoking is banned in pubs and such which is all cool, but give me a break, this is one music concert, it won't give you lung cancer.
I feel sorry for the dude - could you imagine what it would be like being blazed out of your mind and having Bruce d***inson personally ripping you out?? I mean, he wouldn't have sparked up if he thought it would affect the show in any way would he. What have metal concerts come to when you're getting a smack-botty from a front-man for smoking weed?! Don't get me wrong, I love Maiden and I loved that tour when it came to my town, but that kind of PC grand-standing is totally depressing. I think Uncle Bruce is kind of showing his age. He could have made a veiled joke about the smell so as to make a point, and the guy would have got the message and butted out. The only thing the poor bloke is ever going to remember about the show is being told off for getting stoned. I mean, if he wanted a lecture about that he could have stayed home and lit up in front of Daddy. This is such a bring down....I need another joint!
Seriously guys, seeing Maiden live is not a god-given right. They don't have to perform for you. Sure, you paid for the tickets, but that doesn't mean you own the band. If Iron Maiden don't want drugs at their shows, you should respect that, unless you want this to be the last tour they ever do. Once smoked, it just relaxes the body and dependant on the quality of the goods, it either puts you on an upper or a downer... I smoke it every oncein a while just to have a laugh with the mates, but do not smoke it religiously and never will. I can understand your point in stating the stench in samll venues is unbearable, I agree with you. If you haven't participated in the smoking then and there, the stench is rather distasteful. Pot is illegal because of America's two best friends, money and God. There used to be a time in this country when it was almost mandatory for farmers to grow hemp because of its resourcefulness. Hemp fibers can be as strong as steel when used properly and anything made of plastic can be recreated with hemp. But having a cheap, renewable resource is something too smart for our capitalistic system. Throw in that many pot smokers have claimed to feel a spiritual experience while smoking in this Christian "no-idolatry allowed" nation of ours, and you have a combination to get hemp and weed banned.
As for the drug/not a drug argument; weed itself is not a drug. It's a plant. THC however is a drug and is released as the defense mechanism when weed is burned. Weed contains very little of the hazardous substances that cigarettes do, no nicotine, no fiberglass, no tar. Of course smoke is never good for the lungs but f*** it, Willy Nelson is how old after smoking pot pretty much all of his life?
People don't smoke pot because its illegal. Take a look at places where it's still legal, they smoke pot causally like we should be able to in America. Would America be a more dangerous place because we do? Laughably no. Pot doesn't make people retarded. People make people retarded.
Besides, if all the people in jail because of being there by something related to Pot were out; we'd not only solve our problem with overcrowded jails but also potentially be able to eliminate huge portions of our debt because our money could be spent paying back the foreign countries we borrowed from rather than paying for countless jail sentences.
As for Maiden, d***inson has gotten a power trip since the Ozzfest incident. I love their music but he needs to remember that the only reason he's the position he is, is because of dedicated Maiden fans throughout the 80s.

I'm a bit torn on this issue myself. Pot smoking is pretty much just something you have to deal with at metal shows, but on the other hand it is his show, so if he wants to tell people to knock it off then he's got that right.
I have to agree with Cynic about feeling sorry for the poor guy though. Having a huge metal icon tear you a new one in front of the entire audience (while he's baked no less!) and then having the video circulate the internet for all his friends to see has got to be terrible for him.
On the topic of the video - I can't stop watching that part right around 40 seconds in where he does a little dance and waves his hands around, it's just so funny. It looks like he's doing an impersonation of how Dane Cook looks when he's coked out on stage doing his "I'm all over the freaking place" stand up act.
I hate second smoke, cigarettes or joints. I like a drink but I don't throw it over anyone. Everyone smokes in my family apart from me which I don't agree with. To the joker who said metal and pot go together, are you twelve? As for this guy getting "picked on", just go see a stand up comedian and do something to draw attention to yourself and then you will be made to look a right tool. This was a nothing incident and I am amazed it has drawn the attention it has.

I respect peoples opinions on whether or not they choose to do drugs. I use to smoke pot and occasionally still do. I've seen Iron Maiden twice and was definitely high both times. Each show was an outdoor event and it wasn't like I blew smoke in anyones face. People need to chillax and understand that drugs and rock & roll will always go hand in hand.
Well i will be sure to light up a fat joint before and during Maidens concert when they get here. And for all you complaining about the smell its because people are smoking sh** quality ditch weed and not premo BC buds. I think bruce could have been a little nicer about it and not made the guy feel like sh**. I am a non cigarette smoker and i do not like that around me at concerts so i guess i can understand some people not liking pot smoke but oh well just deal with it. Its sad to see one of my favorite bands against something that i enjoy

Excellent point Oz, d***inson's problem was the fact it was affecting him and his performance, and he had a right to call the dude out, and he wasn't that harsh. Hell, he was having a laugh at the whole thing.
On the other hand there are people in here who are saying you can't light up a spliff because the smell annoys them? I mean, come on, you can't take a few steps to the right from someone else? As far as being straight edge... that's a joke in my mind, chocolate, coke, protein, they all affect the chemicals in your brain and body - where do you draw the line between right and wrong?

I think it's pretty funny on multiple levels. Definitely not what you'd expect from a frontman of a band at a metal show, so many of the polarized reactions from people are expected.
That said, all this "metal and drugs go hand in hand" type responses are weak. The same kind of sh** was said by tons of people when Dimebag was killed as well as in response to fights and other incidents - "metal and violence go hand in hand." Just because it happens sometimes (drugs or violence) doesn't make it part of the experience or something that people should be doing and other should have to accept.
But yeah, when all smoking is banned (it is in Maryland now and I'm quite happy about it), it'll be pretty hard to smoke anything without getting caught. I don't like the smell of it, but generally tolerate it. It's easier knowing there won't be so much smoke to tolerate in the first place. Smoke in general can be a b**** on contacts and I don't really like breathing it either.

As a smoker my big reasons for not liting up at shows are;
1. Kids, many parents bring their kids to shows and while I am not big on kids at shows recogonize the fact that its not my call to make.
2. When in a standing room venue setting think that I would get p***ed at someone if I bumped into them and got burnt by their cherry.
3. Some people just dont want to be around smoke or have health issues that make it very dangerouse to be around smoke.
All venues provide an area to smoke in and I am sorry to say it, but if you cant go a set without a smoke you are way too addicted. Hahaha!

FocusShift hit the nail right on the f***ing head. I hate people telling me that marijuana is a drug, THC is a drug and marijuana is a plant. It doesn't smell that bad (go smoke Salvia than tell me that marijuana smoke is nasty smelling) but you still don't force others to breath marijuana into their system, that is just wrong.
Txmetalhead, marijuana is not a hallucinagin, not even in high doses, while Peyote is a hallucinagin. Post 35 and 44 have it right. Have you ever smoked it Txmetalhead? If you have'nt than how would you know that we (people who ACTUALLY smoke it) are wrong.
I have to post due to the amount of stupid comments on this issue. I understand why Bruce would be p***ed, but the way he handled it is extremely childish and probably caused one person to get his a$$ beat because he made a dumb decision. Marijuana is a drug. Period. It contains mind altering chemicals so the plant is considered a drug. Also for all of you XXX kids out there caffeine is also drug. So that means that every time that you drink a coffee, have a soda, or eat chocolate you are ingesting what is considered to be a drug. So txmetalhead I hope then when you drink a soda next time you consider that you are in fact ingesting a mind altering stimulant.
Another huge misconception is that marijuana is a hallucinogen which implies that it would in fact cause large amounts of hallucinations. That is false. Marijuana, as it stands today, does not fall into any particular category for drug classifications it only shares more with hallucinogens than with any other drug class. Marijuana is also a stimulant, and a depressant. THC in its purest form would cause hallucinations, but smoking like 10 joints would probably never give you that effect.
Marijuana also has never once caused a death by overdosing. Not once in medical history has there been a single confirmed death due to an overdose of marijuana. If someone wants to argue this then give me proof. Until you have proof from an actual legitimate source, not "my friend told me about this dude", or "my uncle said that one time this guy he heard about"; you are using fallacious arguments.
As for why marijuana is illegal, thats mostly a topic of racism towards illegal Mexican immigrants and blacks. I can't remember the exact act, but it had something to do with stamps.
Anyways, before people make INSANELY STUPID comments; take the time to actually research what you're talking about.

Well I hail from Vancouver, British Columbia where pot smoking at a concert (and in general) is 2nd nature (1st for some?). Whether it be Dragonforce or Behemoth, your going to be smoking pot. If not directly, indirectly. Are you going to yell at people smoking cigarettes? Those contain Nicotine, thats a drug. Put down the Coca Cola, its got Caffeine!!!
For all those saying pot wreaks. A good plant smells euphoric. IMO second hand cigarette smoke has a worse scent. Not very smooth feeling, almost like your burning your nose hairs.

Personally I have no problem with Weed.I've smoked more than my fair share.But if it's bothering BRUCE somehow then put it out.It is his show after all.Besides we all know how excentric he is.The man makes certain crazy people I know look like straight lace family men.

I actually know someone who is allergic to pot. there are others who have cleaned up and also don't need that floating in the air around them.Or athsma sufferers. smoke it outside, sure, or better yet, since everyone just wants a high, eat a pot cookie / brownie rather than smoking it. none of the THC goes to waste up in smoke,longer lasting, different fun body high that works well with the tunes, and no one near you gets annoyed.
even the "primo BC bud" stinks to me. and I'm uber sensitive to strong smells, thanks to damaged lungs from a chemical spill at work. no bleach, and no pot. both equal an instant migraine headache. no thanks. I'd like to enjoy myself too, and I don't bother other people to do it.

It does less physical damage in the short and long run than alcohol or cigarettes (of course if you roll the pot with tobacco then you are going to get the effects of that but it's not so servere on it's own), and the adverse mental effects only appear to seriously affect a relatively small number of people. Now by no means am I saying you should stop drinking and start getting high, but it does seem a lot of people are digesting the sensationalism that's out there about this.

Marijuana has been legal Tx, and it is still legal in countries around the world. The point was caffeine is a drug that has adverse effects on your body. Weed itself contains no tar or carbon monoxide, those two substances are in cigarettes and cigars.
Just because something is illegal doesn't mean it should be or always will be. Alcohol was illegal at one point, then the government realized they were losing money on it. They're losing money on weed too, a much less dangerous substance, but they won't legalize the sale of it until they figure out how to make it profitable for them. It's too easy to grow (at least if it was legal it would be), and there are certain industries that the government is trying to protect with it being illegal.
But hey, they're doing the same for alternative energy sources to gas and oil and look at what that's gotten us right?

I actually worked with a guy once who was a recovered crackhead who said he was better than people who ahve neve smoked crack because he used his trust and belief in god to quit, making him stronger than someone who has never fought an addiction. I won't begin to tell you why I think that whole "my belief in god" stuff is a will power crutch but ya do what works for you I guess... All in all, if the smoke is hurting his poor old rocker lungs after all those years of (I will only say assumed) drug abuse then maybe, JUST MAYBE, he should retire and throw in the towel.

Not what i'm saying Cynic. You wouldn't light up there so why light up at any other show. There are areas where you can smoke. Not everyone else smokes so why should we have to get a wiff off their fag?
The way I see it, you have every right to smoke but I have a right to fresh air and healthy lungs. I just moke away when one of my mates lights up. I don't bash them up haha.
Concerning the people who insist people should toke before shows and that those who blaze during events are "pathetically" addicted are something... a typical high will range from 45 mins to an hour and a half. So the only way to get a nice potent buzz and enjoy a large portion of the set is, logically, to smoke during the show! I remember taking a few hits off a nice spliff 10 seconds before seeing GWAR and it made the performance all the more vivid and *memorable*! haha

Well, I just have two questions. First, how many users here are from the great white north? sounds like there are a couple of canucks here! Second, if he is complaining about the smell and the smoke in Texas, what about their canadian dates? If you take into account that is has been reported that about 52% of the canadian population has or had smoked weed, that means that about 10,000 people at the Maiden concert in Calgary are going to be smoking up. I wonder how he is going to feel about that? Now, on to my rant....I like that fact that people point out the fact that it is ILLEGAL...well, so is the music/movies/games you download, has it stopped people from doing it? no. Is it a good idea? depends on how you look at it...and this is where all of the arguements stem from, it is all a matter of perspective. I like smoking weed, have done it all my life (well, it feels that way). Has it made me a better person? Nah, maybe less violent (had a bad anger managment problem in high school, got busted a few times for assault), maybe a little more lazy. Do i know it is harmful? Yeah, you are modifying your brain's chemistry, and you are inhaling smoke. Do i still like to do it? Hell Yeah. I do not drink, smoke cigs, or do any harder drugs, and I like to escape reality sometimes. It is not as harmful as alcohol or tobacco, and is less addicting. Has it killed people? Not directly, i mean, you are still inhaling smoke, so the same would be true for standing over a campfire for about an hour a day. There was a study done in Jamaica where they found that pot smokers there were getting lung problems, but strangely, no lung cancer...odd, huh? And people have done stupid a$$ things on pot, but no more than people that were drunk. My whole point in the matter is this, that people have their own personal rights, just like i have the right to spark up a spliff, you have the right to tell me to cut it out, but you have to respect MY rights as well. If you yell at me for doing it, i will blow a cloud right in your face, then it's on. So, yeah, good for Bruce for standing up for his rights, and i guess you gotta look at it from his point of view...he's working! He is at work, this is one of the things he does for a living. If you can't stand the smell of pot.. you probably should be at a concert. Period. With all the bull sh** that's in the air, coming out of car exhausts and smokestacks, a little bit of pot smoke is probably the least of your worries. Some people smoke, some people don't. Some people have 15 beers and vomit all over the floor where I have to stand while I'm at the show, and act like morons while they're doing it. I'd personally rather deal with a little smoke in the air. But people will do what they do, and there is no point for you p***ies to cry about it. If you just "hate the way it smells" or you "might just get lung cancer", maybe you shouldn't be at a metal show anyways. Maybe you should be alone, living in a plastic bubble.
All I'm saying is that EVERYone needs to be tolerant. Us pot and cigarette smokers are tolerant of all kind of policies. For christ sakes we can't even smoke in BARS anymore!!! We deal with you c*** suckers making us out to be second class citizens EVERYWHERE. We tolerate being disrespected by almost everyone who doesn't smoke, and we tolerate being exciled from our favorite clubs or hangout spots just because we want to go have a smoke.
If we can tolerate dealing with all of your crap all of the time, well then maybe you all can tolerate us having a smoke at a particular venue, where we feel like we might be able to get away with it and be ourselves without being ridiculed by YOU or the band we paid to see. I personally am a huge fan of Iron Maiden, and the Heavy MTL show will make my 4th concert, and I have personally seen Bruce call out a fan for smoking, and I have to say it was somewhat disappointing.
And it's not just the fact that Bruce called him out for smoking. We are used to being questioned about smoking and being told to put them out or stand farther from the building. It's the fact the we have paid 50 or 100 dollars to see somebody that we idolize, not to mention the expense to travel wherever the show may be, as well as the time spent. It's the fact that someone we idolize, and someone that I've paid to see doesn't have to respect for his fans to allow us to enjoy ourselves to the very fullest, even if it means his poor nose has to smell some cheeba.
Like I said before, Heavy MTL will make my 4th Iron Maiden show, and Bruce's intolerance of smoking will not keep me from seeing them again. Not only because I think Iron Maiden is awesome, but because I'm tolerant and understanding of the fact that Bruce is a man to, and if nothing else I can accept that he doesn't like people smoking pot. It's a very small issue. I just hope Bruce doesn't call me out Saturday... haha.
Just be tolerant, if it means heading outside to get away from some smoke, IF it's really bothering you that much, so be it. Just don't be b****es about it.

I have a severely compromised respiratory system due to my muscular dystrophy fvckers. I don't need to be inhaling ANY toxins from YOUR inability to enjoy a show sober. Why should I have to leave when it's not my vice?! I'm not talking about distaste, I'm talking severely increased chance at developing severe medical conditions because you needed a release because of your insecurities with life!
Well its obvious that this thread got outta control. Oh and why complain because someone is smoking pot, honestly, who gives a damn. The people sweating in the crowd smell far worse than any skunky weed created in a lab. And its not a very metal thing to be all establishment and anti-drugs. The fact of the matter is that you can bet on smelling pot in the air at a concert. Indoor or out. It's always going to be there, and there's nothing any band or any venue can do about it. Unless venues implement mandatory strip searches upon entering the show. And I'm not really sure how 15,000 metalheads would respond to that bullsh**.. I'm sure it wouldn't be pretty.
On a more personal note which I'm sure more smokers can attest to, I don't care for being talked down to just because I smoke. Based on nothing more than the knowledge the a person smokes, how can the assumption be made the we do it because we're insecure about anything?
Just speaking for myself here. I smoke because I enjoy it. I enjoy the flavor and aroma. Just the act of smoking is enjoyable and pretty relaxing to me. Those are my personal reasons for smoking.

What kind of argument is separate realities? No point in even discussing the issue then. Of course there is a possible reality where pot might be a necessity. But the fact is we're talking about a shared reality, a concert. And I've given sufficient reasons why you should refrain from smoking in this shared reality. The smoking area is not so bad either. Its a great place to cool off from the mosh pit, chat with your fellow smoker/concert goer, drink a full drink without risk of it getting knocked out of your hand and if a band is playing that you are not so pumped to watch is playing can opt out until your favorite is on stage. Not to mention you can smoke wnrry free that you might bother someone.
