Korn Frontman Speaks On "Head"'s Possible Return

Photo of Korn

Band Photo: Korn (?)

Korn frontman Jonathan Davis was recently talking with fans on the groups official website chatroom, Korn Korner. He had this to say on former guitarist Brian "Head" Welch and drummer David Silvera:

"Head doesn't want to come back yet. I miss him sooooo fuckin' bad, but I don't think he is ready to be put back in the element he ran from. Drugs are everywere, and I think he's not ready to be around it yet. I think Fieldy can help him a lot because he's Christian too and sober and does fine. Now David, I don't know what's gonna happen there. I just think he is done with music; it not his passion anymore. It sucks, but hey, he has to be happy, right?! We are very happy with [current KORN touring drummer] Ray Luzier. Every time I see him, he's got a drum magazine or a drumstick in his hands. It pumps me and Fieldy and Munk up. So maybe one day you will see Head up there with us, I hope."

He also revealed in the chat that the next Korn album will be produced by Ross Robinson, who produced their self titled debut album and their sophomore album "Life Is Peachy", in addition to many other bands such as Soulfly and Limp Bizkit.

Oh hell yes, Ross Robinson is coming back. They're going back to their roots! This is what I've been waiting for as a Korn fan. I just hope they move on from their "my life sucks" ways and onto confident lyrics with this new album while rocking just as hard as their first two albums. Then Korn will finally get the respect they have long deserved.

^^ Dude, all Korn has and all Korn has EVER had is "my life sucks" lyrics and the new albums suck because it's not so believable anymore. Korn will never release an album as relevant or as personal as Life Is Peachy ever again. It's a bygone time from a bygone age, but, hey, while we're wishing here, how about that Faith No More reunion? I laugh heartily at the last sentence of your post. ^^

I really doubt Head will return to the band anytime soon. What's next a Limp Bizkit reunion? I doubt it. This stuff better be good. Their last 2 albums let me keep my money right where it was.

Crawford said it... Korn has lost all their integrity. Their first two albums were deeply personal. The lyrics weren't amazing, but they were raw, truthful, emotional, they had an edge, and were vocalised in the same way. That's what gave this band an edge. When they lost that (in my opinion from Follow The Leader), they lost their integrity and they lost what made them relevant and worthwhile. The lyrics basically continued with the same general issues, but got worse. The raw emotion, the fury, shame, and rebellion were lost. A producer can only direct, he can't drive the music for them, and he can't make them feel the way they felt back in the early 90s. This band will continue to go nowhere and fade further from its glory.

As for Head, he got out and he should stay out. I'm not a religious person, and I'm not anti-drugs, but if you are those things, being in a world-famous rock band is not a healthy environment for you.

You guys are being too harsh on Korn. I look at each of their albums as going in a different direction rather than losing their integrity. Their last two albums weren't what I was looking forward to, but I am holding out hope for one more album. If they had continued on their course I would have agreed that they would never return to glory, but they said the next album will be going back to their roots. Ross Robinson knows what to do with them; he was with them from the beginning. Clearly they are going to make an effort to do what fans have wanted. If they fail this time then it's strike three... but I think they'll come through.

On completing his book, I realised just how emotional Head is, he's always been a lost cause, and for him to rejoin would be completely hypocritical...
As for Ross Robinson producing their next effort, maybe Korn realise that they need to assess their music making abilities and hit the drawing board for plan B.
With that said, I agree with CrawfordTexasJingoJango in that the emotion and drive is no longer apparent...

Yeah, don't get me wrong. It would be cool if Head came back, but I'm not holding my breath. It just seems to me that there was an obvious presence when Korn played with him and now, it seems like the creepiness is gone. It'd be nice, but I doubt it will happen.

Weirdly there are kids today who are about the same age I was when I got into Korn in '94, wearing their merch....It just occurred to me that I've been aware of Korn for half my life.
At 28 I see kids half my age in public places wearing Metallica, Pink Floyd, Nirvana, Pantera, The Beatles, Led Zep, Sabbath...thats one thing---but Korn is another.....They know something about staying power I suppose.

Only time will tell if they can make another album like Korn, Life is Peachy or Untouchables (my personal favorite).

And about Head and David: I seriously doubt Head will ever come back. I've watched the interviews and he's a total religious nut now. I can imagine him trying to come back eventually, but it would be too annoying for them because he would constantly be trying to change them. And if David doesn't want to come back, that's cool. Korn has been doing good with different drummers. I still want to go eat at Tuna Town (the restaurant he owns) and see what that's all about.

i think it would be greqt if head came back but honestly with all the comments made by john it would be a conflict of interests, i love their first album the best because its what they wanted to sound like in the beginning now they are too soft, come on you cant even mosh to their past 2 albums!!!!!!!!!!!!! i went to see korn live in london and the support acts were better than them because munky wasnt there, john had a back up singer and the only other person from the band there was feildy!!!! they played bad. but there will always be a place in my music collection for korn as they inspired my life.

IMBECILE.

For just simply pointing out a man's beliefs and why they won't coincide with an off-beat extremely secular band's way of living, you accuse people on here of racism. Putting aside the fact that religion is an entirely seperate subject from race, so it is difficult to understand where you get your implications of racism from..., you are still an idiot. Pointing out that we must basically realize our minority aspect within this culture as well, whatever it is that you are accusing us of being minorities of, only makes out to infer a certain intolerant and oppressive attitude upon yourself towards those who disagree with your precious "majority".

Assuming the above is too much, too arrogant, or too pompous seeming, I'll reframe it simply: f*** you, you retard, stop talking out of your a$$ and try using your f***ing head for a change.

Head isn't going to come back to Korn. Korn will spread these rumors to get their fans, and people who use to be fans excited. Which, in turn, will cause them to sell more albums, and make more money at shows. David may come back (not any time soon, don't get your hopes up), but Head isn't.
