I've read nothing but bad things about The Sword, to sum it up here's a snipet I found on the metal archives -
"If one hasn't gathered it yet, this band is The Sword. Ignore your Triviums, your Slipknots, your Linkin Parks and neo-Metallicas, THIS is the sort of thing that is genuinely killing metal. This is a parody of all that metal has stood for, and it pours out of every note that vaguely heralds some hobbled combination of genres that has no basis in anything that truly exists in metal. Despite attempting (and generally failing) to mimic the styles and feelings of 'old-school' heavy metal, one can so clearly hear the lack of sincerity in the music which makes this album such an odious listening experience. This is no tribute to tradition: this is a complete sham and mockery of all that we love in this music."
Now Playing: Nile - "Von Unaussprechlichen Kulten"
The Sword is a metal band from my home state - Texas. They are extremely good at their craft. Fukk that review above...this band has promise...it is apparently too underground, or simply too complicated for the stupid fukk critics to figure out. Texas metal lives on! Just like Kylesa, and other southern bands - this band is incredible.
i read over at blabbermouth.net that DOWN has been added to certain european dates as well. if you think im bullsh1tting go and check it out. i, for one, saw pantera 7 times and heard phil talk mega sh1t on metallica, and cant wait to see what becomes of this one. DOWN is good enough to tour on their own, and it baffles my mind that they would agree to this one, if in fact it is true.
All I have to say is I find it funny how a lot of people complain about Trivium being Metallica wannabes but then the Sword comes around, who is also imitating classic metal, but is less known, is regarded of the best up and coming bands. Make up your minds! You either like imitators or you don't!
That is fukkin' great that you don't like the Sword - DeathinEye - your choice. They are good, though, and will only get better. Power metal, who ever said that, what the hell are you smoking??? The Sword is not power metal. I hope that was a joke. If you like the Sword, check out Kylesa, Baroness, and the almighty Mastodon. DeathInEye probably talks sh1t about Mastodon, as well.
Why would I talk sh!t about Mastodon? I don't think they're as great as a lot of people make them seem, but 1) that's not talking sh!t and 2) like you said, that's my choice. As far as the Sword goes, I never made any negative comments toward anybody who likes them. I just put it out there that it seems like a lot of people who claim to dislike Trivium for being too much like Metallica make claims that the Sword are brilliant. You can enjoy "their" music all you want.
The problem with Trivium is the switch from Metal to gay a$$ retardallica wannabees. The Sword do have a old school sound, yet they are heavy and nowadays nobody does old school metal as good as they do...now the question is how original are they ? I dunno but it sure as f*** sound great, so does Mastodon and Kylesa and Baroness.
Yes, I will enjoy the SWORD - I have both of their albums. Another band that has an old school feel - or seems to be straight up solid rock is Fireball Ministry. FM, Mastodon, Baroness, Kylesa, Black Stone Cherry, and Alabama Thunderpu$$y - that is some good sh**! Of course the pioneers have always done metal right such as COC or Down.
I could I forget about Coc. they are amazing as well. I have always liked the way the drums sounds on old school metal or rock, straight up banging, feels like it's a live album. Now it seems that I will have to check out Fireball Ministry and let you know what I think...
