Thrash Of The Titans To Be Relaunched
Thrash metal fans the world over will be overjoyed to hear that the Thrash Of the Titans tour from the early 90s will be relaunched this summer with some of the biggest names in thrash on the bill. The event will be headlined by Slayer, who are rumoured to be premiering a brand new song at the event. Bay area gods Testament will also join the bill as will Exodus, Death Angel, reactivated British thrashers Onslaught and Hirax. The event has been expanded to six bands due to the rise in popularity of thrash metal being experienced at the moment. The credit for the relaunch of Thrash Of the Titans is being given to Testament frontman Chuck Billy.
"Thrash never really went away." he explains, "it just kinda... fizzled. It's so cool to see that it's being given the recognition it deserves in these modern times. It makes me kinda sad to see these bands like My Chemical Romance and The Used being given so praise and adulation and being the representitive of rock for kids these days. But it brightens my day considerably to see young kids at our shows. It makes me even happier when they're wearing a shirt of another thrash outfit from our time. Recently I thought to myself, 'Hell, why not do something to REALLY show the kids how it's done!?'" So I called up Kerry (King, Slayer guitarist) and spoke to him about the old times and the Thrash of the Titans tour back in the day and brought up the idea of doing it again. He called Gary (Holt, Exodus guitarist) who was so excited about the prospect of a huge thrash tour, that he called the boys in Death Angel and it just kinda snowballed from there."
Hirax frontman Katon De Pena posted a brief message via his personal myspace saying: "Slayer, Testament, Exodus, Hirax, Death Angel and Onslaught.... you ain't seen nothing yet! Bring your A game for these pits!"
Dates are expected to be released next week and it's been rumoured there may be one or two surprises in store at the event.
