Devin Townsend: "I Didn't Want To Scare My Kid With My Skullet"

In a recent interview with an underground metal magazine out of Paraguay, Devin Townsend revealed his real reasons for disbanding Strapping young Lad and The Devin Townsend Band and vowing to no longer play music live. Townsend says that he planned to shave his head in an effort to not scare his children with his "skullet" (mullet with the top of his head being bald).

"I remember how I felt when Metallica cut their hair. Betrayed. Confused. They went on to make some of the worst music in their careers from that point on. I don't want to be a freak in the eyes of my kids and I don't want to be viewed as a sellout by my fans, so I have chosen to forego the performing aspect of music at least until I'm fully bald and have a legitimate excuse for how I look. In the meantime, you can expect more crazy videos of Ziltoid the Omniscient instead of seeing my face..."

Townsend announced his departure and dissolution of Strapping Young Lad and The Devin Townsend Band, and his decision to continue on with solo music during a "Ziltoid the Omniscient press conference" early last year. The audience initially took the statement from Ziltoid as a joke and Devin had to reiterate it himself.
