System Of A Down To Reunite For Coachella Festival?
Band Photo: System Of A Down (?)
SYSTEM OF A DOWN singer Serj Tankian has been added to the lineup of this year's Coachella Valley Music And Arts Festival, scheduled for April 25-27 at the Empire Polo Field in Indio, California. With SCARS ON BROADWAY, the new band featuring SYSTEM guitarist Daron Malakian and drummer John Dolmayan, previously announced for the festival, it's likely that speculation will start about whether the musicians will get together for a surprise SYSTEM reunion. The band has been on hiatus since the fall of 2006, with Tankian releasing his first solo album, "Elect the Dead", last fall. The SCARS ON BROADWAY debut is due out this summer.
Malakian recently told MTV.com that SYSTEM's hiatus may be permanent, saying, "If anyone's holding their breath for a SYSTEM record, they're going to turn blue and pass out. It's a long ways away, if it ever even happens."

Their first album (or should I say "The Hand Album") and Toxicity were great releases, Steal This Album! was a fine album. I'm not sure about Mezmerize and Hypnotize. I've only lost interest in System of a Down since sometime after Toxicity came out. This also explains why I'm calling them a terrible band.
Hmmm - am I the only one who liked Mezmerize/Hypnotise? I think they're great albums. Maybe I just went into them differently, I've never really thought of System as a metal band so wasn't particularly needing the heaviness they had on Toxicity.
Now Playing: Behemoth - "Conquer All"
I still don't understand why Americans would 'love' this band ? Must i remind everyone that they were interviewed in Toronto shortly after the 911 tragedy and when they were asked about their opinion towards the 'terrorist act' They were VERY carefull on how they voiced their views but this being a Canadian interview some of their 'true feelings' did slip from their mouths and let me tell you - System of a Down were in approval of this terrorist act !!! It's funny with these 'anti american' bands such as SoaD and RAGE - how they can criticize and shoot down America and yet hypocritically make their 'fame and fortune' there !!! Hey, I'm a canadian and this pisses me off - how do you Americans feel about this ???
I think the only way to truly enjoy SOAD is to, as Cynic said, view them as not necessarily Metal. Influenced, yes, but an original rock band is more where I would place them.
As for their politics? I say, "who gives a f***?" I can download all of their music for free from Limewire, so I'm not worried about contributing to their hypocrisy, and I still get my musical societal commentary. So I win. Now the very "system" they criticize, they now indulge in, so America wins too, by exposing their falsehoods.
SOAD and RATM: 0
America and f*** A Name: 3 (don't ask, the math was tricky)
Now Playing: Anomalous- "Metastasize"
I liked the debut and Steal this album. Toxicity was decent too.
What killed much of the double album for me was Malakians lead vocals.
His backing vocals were fine, even good. Some of the harmonies between him and Serj were downright awesome....
But his lead vocal sand lyrics were so out of step with tone of previous albums....Simplistic even childish at times....."The most lonliest day of my life", "My c*** is much bigger than yours".
What?!?
My attitude toward soad is pretty meh at this juncture.
Now Playing: Dark Funeral - "Evil Prevail"
Haha, yeah - lyrics have never been a big pulling point for me though.
I actually quite like Malakian's vocals, if I had to pick one song from either album it'd be "Lost In Hollywood". I think I just like the more weird vocals, same with Red Hot Chili Peppers - I'd be happy if John Frusciante sung all the tracks. I'll definately check out Scars On Broadway when they hit.
Now Playing: Behemoth - "Slaves Shall Serve"
Quite frankly, I find half of the songs in Toxicity to be sh*t. Same thing goes for Steal this album!. Mesmerize and Hypnotize were pretty darn good, but also got their low points. Hypnotize and Lonely day( or whatever its called) are possibly the worst songs they've ever made...
How interesting that people view them as stink. well the more you judge and hear them the more you make them more popular. I've heard their music since theyve started and personally I like it, I think as a band they will out perform more than as individuals. I cant wait to see scars on broadway to make my own decisions. Serj ive seen up close and I like his music but would rather hear the heavy side of it all.
Soad is the sh** I don't care what anyone has to say about them yea daron f***ed a lot of the songs up on mez & hip but u have to give them credit they r still good albums toxicity is the best one out they got really heavy with the guitars people like u who hate on them that's why there not together everyone knows there's not a lot of good rock bands left so I say stop hatin and start f***in rockin b****es
