According to James McCarthy from Wales On Sunday, Millennium Stadium bosses are making an audacious bid to bring rock gods LED ZEPPELIN to Wales.

They are in talks with promoter Harvey Goldsmith amid rumours that the supergroup are planning a world tour in October.

WRU spokesman John Williams said: “They are represented by Harvey Goldsmith, who is bringing BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN to the stadium.

“We are talking to Harvey about what else he could possibly bring and Led Zeppelin has come up in conversation.
“There is no deal but we are asking and he is listening. We are at an early stage.”

Possible dates have not been discussed with the group, who have long been associated with Wales, recording much of their third album at the remote Bron-Yr-Aur cottage near Aberystwyth.

Mr Williams added: “It’d be great, I think everyone’s a fan.”

WRU chief executive Roger Lewis, the former worldwide president of Decca records, has already said he would love to bring Zepp to the capital.

He told Wales on Sunday the WRU could “guarantee a perfect event for 70,000 people”.

An online petition, begging the band to tour the globe again, had yesterday been signed by 11,751 fans.

WHo cares. They are a good band and everything but the hype about this tour is dumb and annoying. I would go see 50 other bands over zeppelin. Thats just me though

I really wish that whatever bug is up Robert's arse dies and he decides to do a full on reunion. He act's as though doing a reuntion with the Zep is going to kill him or something! I don't understand it. Anyone have more prespective on this?

Maybe he thinks that he can't live up to the standards that people expect anymore. To do a full tour would drain a lot of people anyway, and he's older than 60. By the end of a tour he won't be doing a good vocal job.

actually Plant is 59...
I think his hesitation to do a tour is because, he and they as a band, have all realised that maybe they've waited too long...? Yeah, his voice sounded pretty good at the 02...but whats it gonna sound like after doing a few shows.?.. they would probably have to schedule shows with breaks in between for his voice to recover...

I'd definatly go see them.... but Im certainly not gonna mortgage the house to do so...
Hell, it might just be easier and alot cheaper to buy the DVD of the 02 show...??

I think you both are right. Age can really do a number on people. I do think there is something that can be done to help his voice... mainly drinking lot's of lemon tea with honey and not over doing it everynight by running around on stage. Spaceing the tour dates out like three or so day's would not be a bad idea either. I really think if there is a will there is a way. The problem is that I am not seeing much will comming from him to tour and do a full on reunion. THAT is what puzzles me and my gut tells me it's not just because of the physical reasons. Maybe I am wrong and it is. I am not a mind reader nor have I had the plesure of speaking to the man himself.

Plant has always been about evolving and returning to something that's 30 years old is not evolving. He's enjoying what he's into now with Alison Krauss and is concentrating on their upcoming shows. I feel that is primarily why there is no word on any further Zep stuff. They don't have much more time to wait if they're going to do it though. They proved they can still jam together and that might have to be good enough.

Plant would do it, and the clues are there for the other band members as to how it might happen....he doesn't want to go out there playing the same numbers from Knebworth, Earls Court setlists from decades ago. "Calvacade of repetition" he calls it....if it was like a band, based on the way it was, like a creative studio force also, with something more to say, then it might be worth it to throw out the "Led Zep" brand name on what they were doing.
He has a tall order, and I would see them no matter what, but he's right to ask to have a bug up his arse.....if they did not transcend or leap bounds over previous efforts, and voices got brittle and they had to slow this down or change key here and there, they would only be serving the fans and the beast and not themselves.....and be accused of doing it only for the money.
I think they ought to go out and play all the material they didn't play live and only interject the mainstays here and there, or write some new stuff....
but first and foremost, the band isn't anything without plant being in particular good shape...vocally...
i wouldn't care if they were in wheel chairs,
but he's front and center, he is the voice of led zeppelin....jones, page and bonham have less to prove than he does....
