Ozzfest 2008 Rumours Begin To Surface
Band Photo: Killswitch Engage (?)
Bands for the limited run dates which will make up OZZFEST 2008 have started to surface. Like 2007, a shortened tour is expected, with rumored artists for this year’s lineup possibly featuring the likes of:
OZZY OSBOURNE
STONE TEMPLE PILOTS
SERJ TANKIAN
KILLSWITCH ENGAGE
CAVALERA CONSPIRACY
BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE
FILTER
THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN
BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME
TESTAMENT
FAIR TO MIDLAND
…more rumors TBA
It’s presently unclear whether the ‘freefest’ model will be adopted for this year or whether or not Ozzy will ship out by his lonesome or be joined by his fellow Birmingham compatriots for another BLACK SABBATH run.
Press from October of last year points to the likelihood of the former, rather than another reunion. The aging rocker was quoted as saying, “as far as I know” when quizzed over his headlining the summer roadshow. Regarding Sabbath he simply stated, “I’m the last person to be told anything. I’d love to do another [Black] Sabbath album. There are a bunch of things written. But the problem I’m having is it’s got to be at least on the same level as when we departed. If it’s not, then what’s the point in doing it?”
OZZFEST 2007 featured the following criterion:
1. Tickets/Entrance was free
2. Ozzy Osbourne headlined (…and debuted new music from Black Rain)
3. It was a 25-date haul that kicked off in LA on July 7

Filter is a one man show. Richard Patrick.
Army of Anyone was one of those unfunny jokes that didn't catch on....So he's back to his old and far better gig.
Filter is not metal in the least (Ozzfest only tends to be about 35% real metal anyway) but they have a few heavy-rock songs in their background. Title of Record is an absolute rock classic in my opinion. It's a fun listen. I'm hoping the next one can at least hold a candle to it. STP take me back to middle school and early highschool. I loved them when I was a kid.
Add Ozzy, Dillinger and the mighty Testament and you've got the most exciting (though barely metal) Ozzfests in some time.
Now Playing: Cephalic Carnage - "Molting"
Fair to midland are one of the best bands on the planet anyone who hasnt heard them have to check them out theyre not exactly metal but theyre pretty different theyre on serj tankians record label serjical strike along with buckethead so that should give u an idea that that they arent your everyday band. But thats a ridiculous line-up as remembermetal? said its not very metal but with fair to midland and between the buried and me i will forgive the inclusion of bullet for my valentine and sh** like that if only it was in australia...... ahhhh a man can dream, a man can dream.......
Yeah really man wheres Black Label, they weren't there last year so they should be there. But if this is the lineup, I'd only go for Testament and Ozzy because other than those two bands this lineup is pretty f***in' sh**ty. I especially hate Dillinger and Between the buried, f*** those fudgepackers
OZZY OSBOURNE-Washed up
STONE TEMPLE PILOTS-Gone
SERJ TANKIAN-Sucks
KILLSWITCH ENGAGE-Kick ass
CAVALERA CONSPIRACY-Sucks
BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE-Plain utter sh**
FILTER-sh**
THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN-sh**
BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME-sh**
TESTAMENT-Washed up old men with saggy tits
FAIR TO MIDLAND-Don't know 'em
So far only KSE is the one worth watching in this tour, pity.
I believe that the only bands i would want to see from thay group would be Testamentm, Ozzy, and Calavera Conspiracy. They need an ozzfest will bands like Overkill, Kreator, Exhorder (Renunion show) and Nuclear Assault. That would be so much better than Surj Tankian with all his crazy liberal hippy statements.
If I'm not mistaken, I think Dillinger is already confirmed for the sh**ty warped tour. I really hope this isn't a sign of whats to come because Ozzy, Killswitch, and Testament are the only bands worth seeing. It better be free, because I'm not going to pay to see this many sh**ty bands.
Post 15
f***in' eh bro, I'd love to see Kreator or Overkill at Ozzfest. Overkill are awesome live and Bobby Blitz' voice is still great. And Exhorder reuniting, that would be so cool, I loved Exhorder, Slaughter In The Vatican is a thrash/groove classic.
You know who should play this tour, Annihilator, that would kick ass. Or Norther, Skeletonwitch, Firewind, Municipal Waste, any of those guys would be sick.
With my luck, Testament would finally make the bill - they deserved a shot long ago - and the "limited run" will skip DC again! :-o
And I've seen BLS play Ozzfest so much that I don't ever need to see them again. I only liked one album enough to pick it up and they generally bore me live. Although it was great to have them play first on the main stage for so many years so I could stand in line to grab some food on the way there and not miss much.
aside from testament and possibly the cavelera conspiracy, this line up is embarassing...i'm almost hoping this year was the last year of ozzfest. sure ozzfest has had its lows, but this is.....unforgivable.
post 19: yeah, any of those bands would kick ass. then again, it doesnt take much to improve this rumored current line up.
Actually thats pretty true, I've changed my mind, it should be a good while before BLS does Ozzfest again. I want another Sabbath run off Ozzfest, don't get me wrong, Ozzy rules but when he's with Sabbath it can't be beat. Man I miss the original Sabbath, this Heaven and Hell thing was cool at first but I think its starting grow a little stale.
Black Label Society has been at Ozzfest like 3 or 4 times already. It's a good thing they're not there again this year. As for STP, they're one of my favorite bands, but they might be a little out of place here. Filter, on the other hand, would fit in better then most people think. They just need to play more songs like "American Cliche" and fewer songs like "Take a Picture". But it's too bad Nine Inch Nails or Rammstein isn't on this bill. I've always wanted to see them at Ozzfest.
Ozzfest used to be "The Metal Show" to go see hands down. All the huge names used to be there. Lately (with few exceptions) this decaying tour has featured a bunch of nobody jobbers who sound and play like everyone else. Within the next few years, other tours and festivals will eventually overtake Ozzfest as summer's metal showcase.
OZZFEST 2008 MUST be Free again with this lame band line up. The best band listed, to me, is Killswitch Engaged....But have wanted to see live: Bullet for my Valentine and Between the Buried and Me...Serj solo? his album is not that great..I think seeing him solo would be as just as exciting as seeing Peter Criss from KISS perforn his 1978 solo album in it's entirety (yawn)...STP? I heard on the radio that Scott was going into rehab again...so doubt it.
BLS not on the Ozzfest again? Maybe it's becuase BLS' last album, Shot to Hell, was disapointing!! Hopefully, BLS is just gonna take time off and come back with a winner like the Mafia ALbum...
I doubt Sabbath will be playing with Ozzy any time soon. Their tour with DIO was pretty successful and they have said they are gonna go into the studio with DIO for a new Heaven and Hell CD.
Below is still a wishlist for an Awesome Ozzfest
OZZY
WHITE ZOMBIE Reunion
HATEBREED
LAMB OF GOD
KILLSWITCH ENGAGED
CRADLE OF FILTH
SHADOW'S FALL
MARILYN MANSON
SLAYER
METALLICA
BLEEDING THROUGH
ALICE COOPER
HELL YEAH
WEDNESDAY 13
Yeah, many of these have play Ozzfest before, but to have them there all on one tour would be cool..
Okay Zombie fan get your facts straight, Hatebreed, Killswitch, Cradle, Manson, Bleeding Through, Hellyeah and Wedensday 13 are all f***in' terrible. But Shadows Fall and Slayer would be good to see on Ozzfest again, they're both always good live.
And on BLS, Shot To Hell wasn't much of a dissapointment and Mafia wasn't much of winner either, good album though but doesn't quite live up to The Blessed Hellride or 1919 Eternal. Now those are f***in' awesome albums.
I wanna see COB play ozzfest for a change you know? I can see bands like Otep, Shadows Fall, Arch Enemy, Dimmu Borgir God Forbid, and Chimaira all playing just because all of them have fairly new material out and none of them have played ozzfest in a few years. I doubt that even a third of those bands rumored will actually play, in fact the only one that seems realistic is Testament with the exception of Ozzy.
While I appreciate what Ozzy and Black Sabbath did for the metal genre, I've never been a fan of their music or of most of the bands listed here. But since the U.S. gets Dimmu Borgir in April and then Opeth/Between the Buried and Me/Dream Theatre in May, who needs Ozzfest?
"BLS is just gonna take time off and come back with a winner like the Mafia ALbum"
LOL!!! that album was average... few good songs...but yeah nothin' special.. the first few BLS albums were good.
Shot to Hell was TERRIBLE ...it was mediocre.
My ideal lineup would be-
Ozzy
Down
Lamb of God
Exodus
Megadeth
Testament
Divine Heresy
Kreator
Kingdom of Sorrow
obviously slayer would be good on that bill but i dont think they'd have that many headline acts...dont wanna show up ozzy haha
How about Meshuggah on 1st stage? Haven't heard people considering that yet. I wonder why so many people posting don't like BTBAM....They are one of the most musicly talented bands in Ozzfest this year. If you don't think so just listen to at least one of their albums all the way through.
all i can say is they better put some fuking thrash metal in there this year...testament would be worth the trip alone. "3 days in darkness in, low, shades of war, the new order" all excellent songs. testament deserves more respect than they get. just dont put any trendy, top 40. emo bands on this tour!!!!
Ozzfest is a dinosaur that is on its last legs and very close to being extinct. With other tours such as the rockstar energy tour with slipknot and disturbed giving sharon a run for her money, I doubt that ozzfest can compete. Plus they have been losing money over the last few years. Anyway here is my version of ozzfest If I was to do it:
Main stage: Metallica, Ministry, Rammstein, Hellyeah, Children of bodom and Black label society.
Second stage: Ozzy headlines, Hatebreed, god forbid, ill nino, darkest hour, demon hunter, silent civilian, and dope.
Bullet for my valentine will be my beer break.... far from the stage so i dont have to listen to that garbage. It'll be cool hearing serj, killswitch & seeing stp for the 1st time. And ozzy is no dinosaur, his stage show is still a lot of fun, he's got a lot of the it factor. I saw him his past tour with zombie & last years ozzfest & he stil has it f*** all you that think otherwise
Let me be the first person to say, I think this honestly sounds like a decent line-up. For once no crap like Hatebreed and Chimaira.
And yes, I know bashing of TDEP and BTBAM will follow but at least they show some progression unlike BLS with that tried old sound on every album.
Oh my f***ing god ^is this retard above actually trying to compare Dillinger and Between The Buried to the almighty Black Label. TDEP and BTBAM are such sh** man, how can anyone like that crap, they try and write the most technical and complicated music just for the sake of it being technical and complicated, it sounds like total sh**. Not to mention they throw in the same old whiny clean sung choruses that everyone else f***in' does, which by the way sucks a$$ as well. And I know some of you are gonna argue back to me, " oh no, Dillinger is sssooooooo talented, they're musical geniouses", ya well who cares, they're f***in' gay. Goddamn I hate those bands so much.
Agnostic, did you really just compare BTBAM to all the clean singing emo bands of today? That's a great insult to a true piece of art. It takes a mind for progressive music and not just brutality or shredding to like BTBAM i'll admit but damn, give them some respect for how they can incorporate so many different genres and yet still be heavy.
And BLS hasn't been all that great for a while now. Not since the Blessed Hellride at least.
FocusShift writes: "did you really just compare BTBAM to all the clean singing emo bands of today?"
Your goddam right I just did.
"Thats a great insult to a true piece of art"
BTBAM? true piece of art? hahahahahahahahahahahahaha f*** THAT!!!!!
"give them some respect for how they incorporate so many different genres and yet still be heavy"
I would if they sounded good, the thing is that their music sounds like complete and total sh**, they might as well be some emo band, they're equally as lame. No offence to you or anything, I just can't stand that band, same with Dillinger and any other math metal, mathcore, progcore, mathprog whatever kind of band.
But I would agree with you that BLS hasn't done anything all that great since The Blessed Hellride, Mafia was alright I thought, but they're all still better than anything BTBAM has EVER done.
^ IF you don't like DEP or BTBAM then why post anything about them? Just say you like BLS is cool and they shouldn't be compared to DEP and BTBAM because they are in very separate genre's and have very separate styles. The post before was correct in saying there really isn’t much that BLS does from album to album except get worse. Don't get me wrong I love old school BLS and Ozzy, but their time for making amazing music is long past and we all know it.
Wow...why does everyone hate DEP so much? They are one of the few original bands that get my adrenalie flowing to where I want to knock out random strangers. Seriously, DEP has made me feel emotions that no other music ever has, and I think it sucks that a lot of you slag them.
I respect DEP because of their originality but I saw them live once, maybe it was an off night for them, but they seemed about as enthusiastic as someone on tranquilizers. They picked it up on the last song but for the most part they seemed out of place. Anyways, if Down or Machine Head played I'd go again this year. I doubt it though since Machine Head is on that stupid rockstar tour and I never know what Phil and the boys have planned...
I saw DEP play with Coheed and Cambria, and I think I was the only one there to see DEP. While they were playing, this dude gave me a weird look because I was going nuts to their music and I decided to mosh the guy and accidentally knocked his girlfriend down instead. I got slapped in the head seven or eight times in a few seconds. It was the most amazing I''ve ever felt at a live show. I felt invincible, like, drunk-dumbass invincible. It was the closest I've ever felt to being moved by a live performance. I've never heard anything like it. I think people are looking for too much meaning and purpose in their music nowadays, and that negates any artistic influence that could possibly expressed. That depresses me. People are missing a quite stellar constellation in the music universe.
Unusual, yes, but only if you're hell-bent on your definition of "usual".
Geez, last year had a spectacular line up, but this line up is all mainstream garbage that is not metal that you can hear on the radio at any given time. Testament is awesome, Killswitch is decent, and BTBAM are one of the premier american metal acts around, but everyone else on this list is NOT worth seeing. I think this line up is a strong indicator that "Freefest" won't be happening this year.
I would love to see a line up of:
Nightwish
Illnath
Bal Sagoth
Immolation
Dark Tranquillity
Equillibrium
Wintersun
Ensiferum
Iced Earth
At The Gates
Carcass
Vesperian Sorrow
Immortal
Aletheian
Opeth
Moonspell
(Im hoping At The Gates and Carcass announce US dates since they are re uniting this summer in Europe)
Can't say, with as much attention as they're getting for doing a Reunion I think it would be great for them to come stateside so that us youngsters can see them now since we couldn't when they were actually around.
At the Gates and Carcass are 2 and 3 on my most wanted reunion tours.
Pink Floyd is at the top, but I'm going to have to keep dreaming for that.
Talk aboot as lame-o as lame can be.
Free last year? What will you pay me to go this year?
I've been to a lot of Ozzfest, starting with 99. And most have been pretty descent and worth admission. But that was when there was a lot of new and underground young blood involved. Most good stuff was on the second stage.
Ozzy has always been clueless when it comes to bands. STP involved is comical and the only positive I can see is no BLS….
* pinch harmonic of joy ever 2 seconds ZAKK style.
GOD's wish list:
SLAYER
Kreator
Black Sabbath
Iron Maiden
Motorhead
Dimmu Borgir
Mayhem
Cannibal Corpse
Immortal
Gorgoroth
Avulsed
Opeth
Leviathan (If he could tour)
Xasthur (If he could tour)
Toxic Holocaust
Danzig
Death
Satyricon
Burzum (If Varg was out)
Carcass
Ministry
Its a very eclectic list....But it would be a badass tour...
this Ozzfest seems to be catered to two kinds of people old washed up grungers i.e. filter and Stone Temple Pilots and mallcore kids i.e. Bullet for My Valentine and KSE, now the rest of the line up is kinda decent you have Testament, BTBRAM, I still don't know anything about the Calvera Conspiracy, but if its like old school Sepultura then they should be ok. Fair to Midland shouldn't be here they are a good folk progressive rock band, but not a metal band, they need to be in Cochella. Also whats so bad with DEP
GOD, that list more sounds like the God's of Metal tour and Wacken mixed together. If it was an OzzFest line up it might actually pull it out of the pop rut its been in for the last couple of years. Would be a great show. If Burzum played Varg would have to be out.. guy is in prison still so you would not have to worry about him. Also you say "Leviathan (If he could tour) Xasthur (If he could tour)" I am a pretty savy metaler, but why can't theses guys tour? Criminal backrounds would be my guess.
To anyone who thinks this would be a s**ity Ozzfest think again. Cavalera Conspiracy would absoutely be bad ass! Seeing Max and Igor together for the first time in years would be reason enough to go right there. Anyone who disagrees is just not a metal fan. Period. Also, I think the recently reunited Biohazard should play.
Kalis wrath writes:"Also you say "Leviathan (If he could tour) Xasthur (If he could tour)" I am a pretty savy metaler, but why can't theses guys tour?"
These bands are actually American bands and have no problems getting in the country but they are one man bands and they would have to find touring musicians to fill all the spots. Burzum would have the same problem if Varg ever had an interest to tour, but Burzum wouldn't tour even if Varg was out of jail.
Seriously, you people need to buy a dictionary (or learn how to at least spell names of bands correctly). Way to fit in with the stereotype that all metal listeners are dumb. BLS is great but tired old sound, same boring riffs disc after disc. And yes, TDEP and BTBAM are musical geniuses, buy a book and educate yourself to music theory you ignorant f!@#s
as far as i knew it was 2008 not 1996! f*** filter and STP are u f***ing kidding me. I'm afraid that all of us who are on this particular website can agree, metal underground, not sh** that sucked then, lets try and make it cool now. it really blows my mind that them gay a$$ bands are going to be there!!!!!
part of the problem is slipknot and dragon force mastodon 5 finger death punch are doing a monster energy tour. oh disturbed and sevendust will be there as well as sevendust and black tide the others I don't know but they are 36 crazy fist, sucide slience, red cord, walls of jerico Slip and dragonforce make it worth the wait. maybe the hustler girls can fill in the extra time disturbed is cool just not killer. would love to see LOG and 3 inces of blood again you know hatebreed will be at ozzfest. they always rock. might find some new crazy sh** like chat whatever the hell ther name was they were wicked. no more lordi or black tide please they suxed balls.
Pretty lousy lineup imo. It will be interesting to see Testament and Between the Burried and Me. The monster energy tour seems to be the best lineup of the upcoming shows I have heard about. Filter is a band who I think my girlfriend has their cd in her pink cd visor with butterflies and s**t all over it. WTF is that all about. Thats like Dawson's Creek s**t! Whatever, I guess if its free again it will be worth checking out. Will someone please explain why Dillinger Escape Plan are so highly regarded! Every mag has got their new album as one of last years best and I think it sounds like $H*T! I dig chaotic and heavy music but that dude sucks. Their is very little melody or listenable riffage going on with those guys. The intensity is obviously there but who can honestly listen to them reguarly without wanting to pull their hair out! I wonder if Cavalera Conspiracy will touch any Sepultura? I seen their video on Headbangers Ball the other night and I wasn't very impressed. Its always cool to see Ozzy doing what he loves and rocking out for his fans. That dude is a legend and we all will miss him when he finally calls it quits, if that day ever comes. I would much rather see him with Sabbath, but Zakk Wylde is a beast! STP are annoying and totally played out. Serj, love him or hate him, usually puts on a good performance. I am excited about Dimmu and Behemoth playing in Cincy here in May. Also going to check out Baroness in Columbus at the end of March. If anyone out there are planning on going to these shows give me a shout out!
Dude I couldn't agree more with you about all the hype around Dillingers new album, what the f*** is with all that? That bands popularity escapes me, I don't understand what it is about them that people think is so amazing, like post 98 claims them to be "musical geniouses", could someone please explain to me how that is. I actually saw a video of theirs for the song Milk Lizard, thats f***in' emo sh** man. Sounded more like pop-punk and noise rather than metal.
Ok here is the deal...Dillinger is going to be on warped tour for most of the summer so I doubt that is happening and honestly, this all gets a little repetative
P.S. STP is together and going strong last I heard...they are on tour with Killswitch Engage and a bunch of nobody stupid a$$ bands right now which kind of outs them and Killswitch
Also I hate death metal...It's so dead...if anything put bands like Heavy Heavy Low Low on there...or Ed Gein...Drop Dead Gorgeous...Groundbreaking Grindcore and experimental stuff...
Come on people...
It needs to change...no more sh**!
f*** DARK TRANQUILITY!??!?!?!?! WHAT!!!!!???!?!?!
I didn't know that a person could smoke that much crack and not die!
MY "oh-so-important" LIST:
Dark Tranquility- hehehehe
Meshuggah- the sh**
Behemoth- tho Nergal's home troubles might keep him busy rite now
Devildriver- best mosh pits besides Slayer
Lamb of God- yes, AGAIN, i'm srry, but I liked em
Ankla- umm, proof that spanish Metal can be good sometimes
Testament- they can stay
Cavalera Conspiracy- Them tooooo.
Slayer- Best Mosh pits besides Devildriver

Now Playing: Neurothing- "Vanishing Celestial Bodies"

Why would Stone Temple Pilots and Filter be playing...I mean they're not exactly what I would call metal you know?
