Metallica's Lars Ulrich Disses The Rolling Stones
Band Photo: Metallica (?)
Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich commented on opening for THE ROLLING STONES:
"Yeah, it was last year — it was about a year and a half ago out here in San Francisco. We were in the middle of some chill time after the 'St. Anger' tour and one day it was like, 'The STONES wanna know if you wanna open for them in San Francisco,' and it was like, 'Duh, of course, we will. Just name the day and place and we'll be there.' We obviously hadn't opened for anybody for a few years but if you're gonna open for anybody, open for the STONES. I mean, c'mon!
"It's the second show — [we played] two shows [with THE ROLLING STONES] in a row — and some assistant with, like, five walkie-talkies and a water-bottle holder, whatever, comes in before the show and says, 'Do you want your picture taken with THE ROLLING STONES?' We were like, 'You know what? Sure. Why not?' So after our show and then they're getting ready to go on, this assistant comes in and says, 'OK, be ready in five minutes' or whatever. So she comes in, she escorts us into this place in the tunnel leading into the stadium and she says, 'Wait here.' As we're standing in this tunnel, literally, and this band EVERCLEAR — who were playing also — they were kind of like over there on their 'X'. So we're standing there and we go over and say 'Hello' to the guys in EVERCLEAR, 'Hey, how was your show?' And this assistant comes back and says, 'No. The guys in METALLICA stay here, and the guys in EVERCLEAR stay over here.' We were like, 'Whoaaah.' So then about five minutes later the STONES come in, and I swear they didn't stop — they slowed down their pace, or their walk, just slow enough to get, like, two or three pictures taken, two or three frames shot with EVERCLEAR, and then they came over to where we were standing waiting, and they all looked at us… No, actually, Charlie Watts said 'Hello' and I think Keith [Richards] nodded or something, and Mick [Jagger] looked like we were all gonna give him pneumonia or something — he had this disgusting look on his face. And then they slowed down long enough while the photographer took two or three frames, and then they walked off. And then the assistant came over and said, 'If the band approves the photo, we'll send you a copy.' That kind of sums up THE ROLLING STONES experience. [Laughs] But being up on stage, that was awesome and the legacy and the whole thing, but that kind of left me with a little bit of a strange taste in my mouth . . . If we ever pulled that, would you come and find me and shoot me? I mean, seriously? But it was a great night and getting a chance to just be part of… If you can sit there and tell your kids, 'I opened for IRON MAIDEN, I opened for DEEP PURPLE, and I opened for THE ROLLING STONES,' then you're pretty much good to go, you know what I mean?"

i hate the stones, but in mick's defense, he always has a disgusting look on his face. and if i ran into lars somewhere i would scowl at him while politely hoisting my middle finger upright.
hate to say it, but i agree with post 1, except i hope this album is actually good.
now playing: cage - hell destroyer
Well what was it that he wanted ? Thw whole Rolling Stones band to get on their knees and give him a blowjob ? I mean suck it up you big fa**ot, stop crying to your mama about everything. It's true, he is always complaining about something...napster, music downloads, his bandmates and now this...shut the f*** up and try to make some good music again...but it seems impossible now !!
Now listening to Six Feet Under : Doomsday
boo fukin hoo....lars you whiny a$$ b1tch....after everything you have done to people through your career, you turn around and smacktalk the stones because the photo shoot didnt go your way....so whatwheneevr you find something of relevance to b1tch about, then maybe we will care...until then...DEAL WITH IT!!!!....BTW....they were afraid they would get the "selloutica disease" IF THEY TOUCHED LARS........!!!!!
I'm gonna have to defend Lars on this one as a fan of both Metallica and The Stones. Fact of the matter is, if you're offered to have a picture taken with a band like The Stones, one of the most acclaimed bands of all time, then you assume you're gonna meet them which is a big deal for any rock and roll fan. The fact that they hardly stopped or talked to you would leave you feeling cheated and angry. Also, if you've got a band supporting you then you treat them with a bit of respect.
Bah, this is nothing new.
People seeking office stoop to this when they want the public's attention, hip-hop artists pen dis tracks and trade bullets ,why shouldn't a metal artist (even one who himself is the butt of TONS of ridicule) prod his forebears.
Nearly all elder-statesman types act repulsed when confronted with a younger generation, even one as old as Metallica. The Stones could have been a bit more friendly but Lars shouldn't be so surprised.

I see it this way. People want to know what Lars thinks or else a) They wouldn't interview him constantly, and b) No-one would be reading this thread. Secondly, I'm sure he's done thousands of interview and in this one, simply answered a question about opening for the Rolling Stones with a story he found interesting. "Quit yer b****in for goodnes sake!", "boo fukin hoo....lars you whiny a$$ b1tch...." - Comments like this when taking into consideration the man is only human seems f***ing retarded. You wouldn't say that to a friend who waited to have their photo taken with his/her fav band - Why say it about him, because he's a star? "I mean suck it up you big fa**ot, stop crying to your mama" - he was laughing in the interview about it if you'd bother to read it. I don't even know why I bother to reason with these inane people...

Rule of thumb. If you organise a gig for your band (an EP launch for arguments sake), you ask bands that you like to come and support you on your night. You would also try to make that band feel as welcome as possible, and appreciate their contribution to making the night a success.
The stones did the opposite it would seem.
Metallica would not, and does not do that. Bands that support them are always talking about how down to earth they are, allowing them to come on stage during their sets etc, like Sully from Godsmack. Hell Metallica even gave those Godsmack guys farewell presents when the tour was over. The point is that if youve invited someone to play at your show, respect them and thank them for doing so no matter how lowly you think they are. The Stones are a bunch of c***s who are only big because theyre the final surviving relic of the Beatle era. Thats hardly reason for them to be 'Holier Than Thou' tossers. But i suppose you gotta respect your elders and lets all face it. . .those guys are old enough to be our great great grandaddys. . .I got news for you grandad. . .f*** YOU.
Metallica rules
Oh come on let them play for 3 and a half minutes and they'll get tired AND THEN METALLICA CAN SET THE ROOF ON FIRE! But we shoul have some respect for our GRANDPARENTS right ? >:-)>
Whatever... but hey we have to give it up for some of the Stones' songs like SATISFACTION GRANDPA knows what he's singing!
Lars let the guys do their stuff and wait for your turn baby!
Love ya

first off, i dont listen to the stones. but lars is a foggot and a pansy a$$ sell out. it just pisses me off because they where soo kickass and then turned to sh**. but MAINLY, how they have "escape from the studio tours" and they dont even go to the f***ing country that they're from. fags just stay in europe and tour constantly. i really hope that this new album is a flop, just so they quit the whole metallica thing.
