My Chemical Romance Confirmed As Final Band On Ozzfest 2007
Self-described rock/metal outfit My Chemical Romance have been confirmed as the final band for Ozzfest 2007, filling the last remaining slot on the main stage with Lordi, Lamb of God and Ozzy Osbourne himself.
My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way was optimistic and enthused about the announcement: “I’m excited to play to such a large crowd on tour this summer and I think the experience will help us get back to our metal roots. I wish we could have played the other year with Iron Maiden, who are a huge inspiration to us, and me personally, but I’m still psyched to be on Ozzfest!”
Shortly after the announcement, Nile frontman Karl Sanders had this to say: “Hell yeah! The prophecy shall be fulfilled. Now we will surely have loads of mall metal posers to lay waste to. That’s exactly what we wanted, although I don’t look forward to the prospect of hearing MCR’s whining on stage every night. We might have to lay waste to the band themselves.”
Rumor has it that My Chemical Romance’s addition to this year’s free Ozzfest was the idea of Jack Osbourne, who says he’s a big fan of the band.

The 24-city OZZFEST will launch July 12 in Seattle, WA at the White River Amphitheatre. The tour was originally announced to start July 7 in Southern California but had to be moved to accommodate the extension of OZZY's European tour. You can tell it's a joke by the way they said "self-described rock/metal outfit. Yeah right.

And they have no real metal roots. They just have Iron Maiden as an influence. They're a glam-rock band.
No, I know about MCR because I like them and I'm not afraid to admit it. None of the bands I like sound anything like each other. *opens closet door* I also like Velvet Underground, Nine Inch Nails, Black Dahlia Murder, Patti Smith, Muse, Fleetwood Mac, and Lacuna Coil.
But even I know MCR could never play Ozzfest. Just like Fleetwood Mac could never play Ozzfest.
And if you're going to scream at me for liking manufactured emo crap, don't bother, I've heard it already and I don't even shop at Hot Topic.

It's a good thing its April 1st. I was worried there for a second. And if MCR is doing Ozzfest for real then, first thing is they could never pull it off and second it may be a sign the world is ending. Not sure, just my thoughts. I'm just hoping this is a joke.

"Emo" used to be short for emocore, but since the term exploded in popularity it has of course lost all meaning because of the widespread misuse of the general public (even moreso than "nu-metal"). Whiney vocals does not make a band emo(core). I would never in my wildest dreams agree to call MCR or Fall Out Boy emocore - that's a disgrace to that genre. But by popular use, it's probably par for the course.

METALLICMOLINA, you wanted a fan of MCR to speak up for them...well here he is. Sure, My Chem is not exactly Metal, only partly inspired by some Metal bands. But to say all MCR fans are "emo fags", you're far from reality. This is coming from a Metal head. Someone who's listening to Megadeth, Metallica, Motorhead, Slayer, B.F.M.V., Venom, and others religiously. You're presenting it as a bad thing that someone may like such a band. I bet you like one or two bands you're not willing to come out of the closet with. Lord knows what other garbage you listen to in your spare time. And who's to say what's exactly Metal and what is not? Just because you may think these guys aren't very Metal, that doesn't mean that other Metalheads think the same as you. In the hypothetical sense, if MCR did play Ozzfest and their fans showed up, you would more than likely not be able to tell them apart from the metal fans in the crowd. I've been to Ozzfest many times and I've been to many MCR shows. The crowds look the same, the mosh pits are the same, the energy is the same. Don't stereotype unless you want it thrown back at you.
^^^ post 111 the reason a lot of MCR fans and "metal" fans look the same and act the same is because the majority of people who consider themselves metal fans these days are just a bunch of emo mallcore posers who only listen to soft mainstream crap like rock and metalcore and dont listen to any real metal like the more extreme and underground death metal, grindcore, black metal and thrash. and you guys know im right. the majority of metal fans today are a bunch of emo p***ies just like MCR fans. and as proof of this if you look on this site there are a lot more comments on articles for bands like Lamb of God, Trivium, Korn, or Killswitch Engage then there are for any underground death metal, grindcore, black metal, or thrash bands.

MCR is emo. They are in the same genre as Fall Out Boy. I would consider a rock band somebody like AC/DC. Modern rock I would consider it bands like Shinedown and stuff like that. Emo = MCR, Fall Out Boy, Hawthorne Heights, etc.
One of my friends knows the guys in My Chemical Romance and has hung out with them. THEY ARE EMO.
But how many bands sound like AC/DC cus i think they are one of a kind. And by emo do you mean the style or personality. They just seem emo because they lived in New Jersey and couldn't go out and play because of the gang violence so they stayed inside and had to kill time by making up stories.

I know because I'm from friends with an emo kid, he's got like a f***ing MCR messenger bag, listens to tons of emo, looks emo, and is friends with a bunch of emo bands like MCR, FOB, Taking Back Sunday. there's even a video on his page of him hanging out with Taking Back Sunday after their show. He was telling me how the singer likes to touch people in the crowd and then pull his hand away, he was showing me how he does it and are you sure that he's not gay?

I am a fan of MCR and I am not emo. Emo origanlly stood for emotional and I find my self kind of emotional at times and it isn't a horrible thing. MCR has a horror story style to them so they are not emo. If you watch their life on the murder scene video you might understand.

I am a mom of an MCR fan. In my youth I loved Black Sabbath and many other metal bands. When my daughter and her friends told us about MCR being at Ozzfest my husband who is also an Ozzy fan, and I thought cool! The girls will get to see MCR but also expand their musical horizons. Now even tho I understand it was a joke, I would never ever take my girls to see Ozzy due to the obvious violent nature of his fans. This makes me very sad indeed, because back when I saw Black Sabbath I never would have dreamed of hurting someone because they liked, let's say America but also wanted to see Black Sabbath. Ozzy should be embrassed by his fans comments and their lack of tolerance to new and upcoming fans. So what if someone likes MCR and Ozzy why must you spew hatred.
