Nickelback To Release Dimebag Tribute As Next Single

Launch Radio Networks reports: Nickelback is releasing one more single from its 2005 album, 'All The Right Reasons', and it's "Side Of A Bullet", a song inspired by the death of Pantera/Damageplan guitarist "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott. Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger told Launch about the first time he played the track for Dimebag's brother, drummer Vinnie Paul. "I called Vinnie, I wanted to get his blessing, and I play him the tune and I'm telling him that it's this very Pantera-inspired riff," Chad said. "He was into it. He was digging it over the phone, and then he says, 'You know what, dude? You gotta write one for Dime.' And I said, 'Well, I wasn't quite sure how to lead into this, but that's what the song's about, and I kind of want to get your blessing on it.'And he's like, 'Brother, of course you have my blessing.'"
"Side Of A Bullet" features a previously unheard guitar solo from Abbott that was edited together from outtakes off various Pantera albums.
The song was written shortly after Abbott was killed by a disturbed gunman during a December 8, 2004 Damageplan concert in Columbus, Ohio.
A live video of Nickelback performing "Side of a Bullet" — featuring a solo by "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott played over the speakers and a large screen with video footage of Dimebag going through the whole song — has been posted online at YouTube.com.

These guys were buds with Dime, knew him better than any of the people here (as if anyone here knew him at all), and wrote the song as a tribute to him, not as a cheap shot at making a buck. They're not hurting for $, they're trying to make a nice gesture out of an album they've already made their money off of. I like Nickelback, and I think it's f**kin' cool - if they really wanted to make money, they'd be releasing something new, not a single from a two-year old album that's already sold 7+ million records. I'm sure that the Roadrunner execs are all rubbing their hands together in anticipation of the $$ it's inevitably going to bring, but to attribute that attitude to the band is stupid. So all you haters can sit on your "metalhead" pedestals and talk sh**, but Dime thought they were cool, and that should speak for itself.

^ I have to agree. I'm in no way a fan of Nickelback, but they are showing their respect to a guitar God. If you complain about them doing this for money then you must have a long list becuase there are a lot of other bands that have done this kind of thing for Dime and there will probably be even more tributes to come.

Dime was a major influence on so many people. I know alot of people don't care for "nickelback", ( I am one ) , but I think it's a good idea as long as it's done tastefully and are not trying to use his death as a marketing tool. Dime should be celebrated and remembered. He wrote some of the heaviest riffs out there, and I think it's sad you and I will not get to experience any new material from him. I was hopin that people could keep their small-minded comments to themselves. If my friend died, and I had the ability to record a tribute to him that would go down in the history books, and that other people who miss him could listen to and remember the good that he'd done in his life... I doff my hat to Nickelback for not only recording a tribute (and taking up space on the album for another generic "How You Remind Me" reprise that could earn them and Roadrunner a fortune when released as a single), but for also seeking the blessing of the deceased's brother when coming to release this. As a band, I don't particularly like them (although I can listen to Silver Side Up all the way through), but they've stuck their hearts on their sleeves and have done something useful.
As for the Dimebag haters out there... I don't understand why you still get such enjoyment from lambasting a dead man? Seriously... What is that wrong in your lives that you have to insult the deceased, and start flaming on people trying to respect his memory? I hope this comes back to bite you on your a$$ if (God forbid) someone close to you dies. I don't wish death on anyone... especially someone who can make a living doing what he loves, and can bring enjoyment to thousands/millions of people through his ability to write killer riffs. However, even the people I despise in life, I would respect in death.
This total lack of humanity and empathy is appalling, and should you be even remotely in touch with your human side, you should feel ashamed that you have tarnished Dimebag's memory in this way.
