Kurt Cobain Beats Elvis As Top Earning Dead Celebrity

Rock 'n' roll legend Elvis Presley ceded his crown to Nirvana lead singer Kurt Cobain on Forbes.com's list as the top-earning dead celebrity.

The list, published on Tuesday, said grunge rocker Cobain earned $50 million between October 2005 and October 2006. Presley wound up in the No. 2 slot with $42 million, down from last year's $45 million.

Forbes.com bases its dollar amounts on licensing deals for using the deceased celebrities' work or image in advertising or elsewhere.

This was Cobain's first time on the list in its six years of publication. Presley has ruled the roost since its inception, said Forbes.com staff writer Lacey Rose.

Cobain's coup was due to his widow, actress and singer Courtney Love, who sold a 25-percent stake in the Seattle grunge group's song catalog to New York music publishing company PrimeWave.

I'm still trying to figure out where the interest is for Nirvana. Cobain, by his own admission, didn't know how to play. Novoselic has done nothing noteworthy since the suicide, and Dave Grohl has turned out to be the only one from that trio with anything resembling talent. Sure, they were the "band responsible" for killing 80's metal in the 90's(which I think wwas a bad thing), but they aren't exactly in my top 100 influential bands.

To me, Nirvana was the worst of all the breakthrough grunge bands of the 90's. I have a great deal of respect for Dave, but that's only because of his work with the Foo Fighters. Kurt was a terrible singer, songwriter, and he sure as hell couldn't play his way out of a paper bag. I don't hold any real hostility for Kurt, but he was almost completely devoid of talent. He had a great deal of influence, but come on. How much respect can you have for someone who marries Courtney Love?

And it just sickens me to know that this untalented idiot beat out Elvis...Elvis was and always will be the original King of Rock and Roll....
Courtney Love is nothing but a skanky whore who should have OD'd a long time ago...

Hey look all you Nirvana haters or dislikers,
why are you looking at this
and why would Nirvana's music be more popular ever since he dies, just to let you know, its less popular actually, because grunge isnt a popular music type any more, its girl pop emo crap, if Nirvana became more famous after his death, how come Nevermind sold like a trillion copies, that was before Kurt died...first you should know a little about Nirvana before you can say anything
oh and if you think Nirvana is untalented, you pick up a guitar, bass, or play a drum set, and you learn all those songs, even though Nirvana thought of all of them. i think im pretty positive in saying that all you Nirvana haters/dislikers have hear Smells Like Teen Spirit and Come as you are, maybe one more song than that,

Nirvana being technical, maybe Krist, for all you people who dont know anything about Nirvana out there hes the bassist, or Dave, once again to the people who know nothing about Nirvana, hes the drummer, being Kurt isnt as much, but still his voice is amazing and far better than anything that i have ever heard, and i listen to everything(that has anything to do with the genre rock), to list a few: A.F.I
AC/DC
Afghan Whigs
Alice in Chains
As I Lay Dying
Audioslave
Avenged Sevenfold
Beastie Boys

I love all of those bands, so you cant say i dont listen to music....

besides that
some one said that Krist hasnt done anything musical since the death of Cobain, well yes he has, Sweet 75 and Eyes Adrift, were he plays guitar in Sweet 75, but he mainly focuses on JAMPAC wich stands for Joint Artists and Music Promotions Political Action Committee, he went to congress and all to plead his case, hes very political.

OH! and with the Courtney killing Kurt, really it doesnt matter to me, ill buy every Nirvana thing coming out no matter were the money is going to, Kurt is dead, how he died we will never know, but if Courtney did kill him, we live in America here, Innocent untill proven guilty, Courtney hasnt been proven guiltey

so basically thats it
if you have anything to say to that insulting me or something, try, because i wont be insulted or offended one bit.

Nirvana000, I applaud your tastes in rock and metal, since mine aren't very different (except My Chemical Romance, but to each his own), but in all honesty, Nirvana's music isn't complicated or challenging to play, at least from a guitar standpoint. If you want to listen to something that will kick your a$$ in musical theory and precision, you should take a listen to Liquid Tension Experiment. Great stuff.

Anyway, this wasn't meant to be insulting or offensive, so don't take it as such. And by the way, Stone Temple Pilots, Alice in Chains, and Pink Floyd kick a$$ beyond comprehension.
