Marilyn Manson To Record "Nightmare Before Christmas" Soundtrack

MTV.com reports:

When Tim Burton's kinda-spooky, kinda-silly "The Nightmare Before Christmas" first lurked into theaters in October 1993, it was greeted with lavish critical praise and ... well, that's about it.

Though it would eventually go on to gross a respectable $50 million at the box office, the film struggled to connect with mainstream audiences and was regarded by execs at Disney as a bit of a flop — a grand, goth-lite experiment in stop-motion animation that failed to live up to commercial expectations.

But when the film was released the following year on VHS, something amazing happened: "Nightmare" became massive, spawning merchandise and a devoted cult following that included tons of goth kids, their younger siblings, basically every emo-punk band on the planet and a whole lot of decidedly un-emo acts too.

So when Disney announced earlier this year that it planned to bring "Nightmare" back to the big screen — it arrives in select theaters October 20 in a fancy, digital 3-D format — the logical decision was to reach out to some of those bands to supply music for the film.

As it turns out, a whole lot of them were more than happy to comply. Fall Out Boy, Panic! at the Disco, Marilyn Manson, Fiona Apple and She Wants Revenge will all appear on a special two-disc edition of the "Nightmare" soundtrack, contributing cover versions of songs featured in the film. The double-disc set will hit stores October 24.

"Disney approached our management about us doing a song," Fall Out Boy bassist Pete Wentz told MTV News. "And we're obsessed with that film and Danny Elfman [who wrote the score]. And of course I've got my 'Nightmare' tattoos, so we were like, 'Yes!'

"The songs in the film are pretty much the best things ever," he continued. "They're Elfman at his prime. And our song 'Nobody Puts Baby in the Corner' [from 2005's From Under the Cork Tree] blatantly rips off a crescendo from one of them. They're absolutely amazing."

Fall Out Boy contribute a raucous version of "What's This?" (a song belted out in the film by protagonist Jack Skellington). Fellow Decaydancers Panic! at the Disco offer up an orchestrated version of "This Is Halloween" (sung by the citizens of Halloweentown in the film), as does Marilyn Manson. Fiona Apple covers the somber "Sally's Song," while She Wants Revenge do "Kidnap the Sandy Claws."

Also included on the second disc of the set are two demo versions of songs Elfman originally wrote for the film, "Making Christmas" and "Oogie Boogie's Song." Disc one presents Elfman's score — including 10 original songs — in its entirety.

For Panic frontman Brendon Urie, just the chance to be included alongside Elfman was reason enough to get on board. Well that and a little good-natured band rivalry of course.

"Everyone in Panic loves Danny Elfman, so it's a bonus to be included alongside him," Urie said. "And I spoke to [drummer Andy Hurley] from Fall Out Boy about it, and he said they were on it, so we wanted to get on there too. So many bands that we're friends with and bands we tour with are a part of it and such huge fans of the movie. We all watched it as kids and we all watch it now, so it's really cool to be a part of it."

F*ck Tim Burton. He's just weird little recluse who takes like 12 years to make a movie, and yet people still worship him, only becuase its a trend to do so. Stop animation is stop animation, its pretty much the same, and yeah it rules but I found this movie to be gay when I was a little kid and still do now even though half the people my age wear that Jack guy on their clothes.

My 5 year old niece watches this movie ALL THE TIME....The cutsie songs have damaged me forever..

I like the animation, and that wierd Burton style from Beetlejuice/NBC but one has to understand that this is a ---KIDS MOVIE---- before one attacks it.

For what it is, it's very high quality and nothing like it has been done before or sense.

As far as re-recorded versions of the songs....bleh, just a cashin attempt and a tribute from the bands that love that movie.

Well, Marilyn Manson is infinitely times gayer and untalented than any of the other bands mentioned. So I don't see why it's such a big f***ing deal that he's involved either. The movie is good enough for a kids flick, and Tim Burton is a better director than people give him credit for. He's just unlucky enough to have all the emo and goth kids swarm around him. Kind of like how f***ing metal kids swarm around Rob f***in Zombie and the aforementioned Manson. Bunch of hypocrites.

I think that everyone has a diff opinion but i honestly think that Burton is a genious. I just love all of his work, not just Nightmare, and sure I have bought some shirts with that and Corpse Bride but that doesnt mean that im just some "emo kid" following a trend. I dont think you should just put it down because you think its to make money for a trend People have been buying nightmare before christmas merchandise for years, I dont think its just to make money. Also people shouldnt just put burton down all together because people labeled " emo" & "goth" like it. I personally hate labels, but yeah a lot of that type like it. But have you ever tried watching any of his other movies? Anyways I donno how i feel about the soundtrack, although i dislike fall out boy and panic it could be pretty cool. I dont know If i like the fact they are changing the classic versions but Ill have to just wait and see when it comes out .

I liked what Burton did with Batman and I wish he'd continued directing them. Beetlejuice wasn't bad either but other than that, there's not many of his films I like. That doesn't mean that I'm putting him down as a director, just that I really didn't like alot of the movies. But in all fairness, there are plenty of worse films than Nightmare Before Christmas, I just got angry over the fact that all of a sudden they decided to make Corpse Bride when they suddenly started getting a sh** load of cash from Nightmare merch.

Hmmm well, first of all the movie itself (leaving the fact that it has become a trend in the emo-happy punk culture) is not bad. But 3D animation???? and Fall Out Boy????, not to forget Panic! at i don't know what s***... Ohh and don't forget Manson... Ok he is an a**hole, I think Mechanical Animals was a good record, but NOW I don't know how he hasn't commited suicide...for all that we know people do it all the time...what is keeping him from doing that???
Well it sounds like a very f***ed up version of this movie...and yes Tim Burton has sold his soul to capitalism, but then again not ALL his stuff is bad...but not ALL of it should be praised either...

This is dumb.
A few reasons why...

1. If you are still saying "this is gay" or "that is gay" then you are not even mature enough to be taken seriously when posting your questionable thoughts.

2. Neo-disney is crap. They can't even make a good CGI movie. What happened to Alice in Wonderland? They don't back anything until they see it has a following. (NBC and Spirited Away for example)

3. Then when they do back it they pull some dumb s*** like this. Releasing an EMO album because thats what they see in their bank accounts (EMO kids buying every last NBC product Hot topic has on shelf!) They fail to see that some people actually saw the movie when it came out and liked it very much (even without wearing eye liner!)

4. I HATE everyone on that album. Talk about suck-fest. Disney couldn't have done a more poor job at picking bands to cover these songs. One of these things is not like the other! ELFMAN! The one with the talent to create something that isnt screamo or growling. I wont be buying this album... even if I do like the movie.

5. Why does it need to be released in 3d? If you havent noticed 3d always fails.

6. Why the f*** are you all fighting? Who gives a flying flip if someone likes this, or so and so likes that. THAT'S WHAT MAKES PEOPLE UNIQUE. Buying something because everyone else has one is dumb... buying it because you actually like it is not. Yelling about things that DO NOT matter is dumb.

Thats why I don't care. I am just happy that everyone is so proud of themselves for "being cool" for having NBC tattoo or for "being cool" by smashing that person in an online comment post. damn.

I didn't mean to imply that I thought Rob Zombie was a poor director; that's neither here nor there. I also apologize for the use of the word "gay". I usually don't use it in a negative manner like that. I was merely reflecting the percieved ignorance of the earlier posts. My point is all these people complaining about "emo" or "goth" kids being into the movie, when really, it doesn't make a difference WHO likes it. It's a good movie. Tim Burton didn't intend Nightmare to be a "goth" movie. That's just his style: that kind of thing wasn't even all that popular when he made it. To call it a sell out now that they're re-releasing it is stupid; there is a following for this movie, so somebody had the idea to do this cool thing for the fans. And the fact that it will make money shouldn't be complained about either. Like it was said before, it's foolish to think that somebody wouldn't want to make money from their work. The 3D aspect is just a bonus. To re-release a movie like this without something extra would be redundant. Like an issue of an old CD with bonus tracks...Which brings me back to this soundtrack. OK, none of the bands are my cup of tea, but they're fans paying tribute to their favorite movie. That may not result in a GOOD tribute, but it will be an honest and interesting one, nonetheless. If you don't like the movie, or any of the bands involved, why bother with complaining about it? Just don't see it or buy it.

What's this about Manson rapeing someon & one of the VR gang blowing him ? You gotta be fibbin on that one.Although I have heard rumors about the whole band being Gay or atleast BI.In fact that's the rumor about why Twiggy Ramirez left the band.People seem to be under the impression that He and Manson were lover's and when Manson dumped him he left the band. How true this is.I don't know but that's the going rumor.

Just saw it.I'm not quite convinced because the guy that put up that site as it say's when you first go onto the page is a former member of the KKK.So in that respect he really can't talk about anybody. Then the picture of Manson with Anton Lavey was in black & white not to mention grayney as all hell(no pun intended).I'm not saying that "that is not Manson" in the picture. If you've ever seen him without makeup it's clearly him.I'm just saying it might be doctored is all.

Then that web site was going on & on about columbine. All I got to say about that is.If your under age kid is liveing in your house. Then you have every right as a parent to moniter what your kid is doing. That includes what he or she is listening to.If you think manson is inappropriat for a teenager and saide teenager is your kid then take it away from your kid.If you do not do this then you are not a good parent.THE END !!!! It's really insulting when the church and the government try to blame everyone and everything other than the obvious.THE PARENT'S OF THOSE POOR BASTARD'S WERE AT FAULT ACCEPT IT!!!!!!! If your son or daughter walk's in to your house and say's thier gay are you gonna blame Rob Halford & Rosie Odonnell. Two people your kid has probably never met or are you gonna ask yourself that big question(what did I do or what could I have done?).

If your Kid kill's someone are you gonna blame all those X-Men comic's featureing WOLVERINE or are you gonna start remembering the past.

Lastly the incident in question was from a concert a couple of years ago.The guy in question was not a minor or a member of VR for that matter but a security guard working the stage area.To make a long story short.Manson in true Manson/Shock Rock fashion walked up behind the guy and started humping his big bald head in mid performance. This guy tried to sue Manson for sexual assault. The case was dropped because they had live concert footage of the incident with the so called victim smileing as if he was going along with it.

Don't get me wrong I'm not defending Manson in any way shape or form.I've herd rumor's of him being an athiest as well as an ordained priest of the satanic church under levay(you can't be both it's one or the other).HOWEVER ! You really gotta be careful where you get your info from.Like I saide "FORMER KKK MEMBER".He can be as reformed and saved as he want's to be.Where I come from He's still got a lot of proveing to do before I take his word on anything.Thierfore he should not be pointing fingers.

Hell this guy is attacking Gangster Rap in the same article.Ounce againe rumor has it Manson is a fan of certain particular group's and judgeing the way he rites his lyric's I can see a little potential influence but what's that got to do with anything?

I was just giving the knife back to a friend...

I'll try to replace him, but it would be bad on our parts to kick him out, since even though he's unreliable, he's still the one who brought us together...Its complicated, and I like to keep sh** honourable...

I never liked that whole "we broke up, lets be friends'' sh**...That has never worked for me...And yeah, her dad's a psycho f*** that needs to get shot...He beat her into breaking up with me...

yeah, i know what you mean, it's been about six months since my ex and I split, and we've only been friends again for about three weeks. Saw her out at the pub, and, drunk as I was, decided that having a good ol' chat was an excellent idea - well, we ended up friends again, so I suppose it wasn't too bad of an idea after all.

And that dad needs to get a clue.

I agree with the sensible people on here.

Just because the film got popular with the stereotype groups (emo, got, hxc, etc...) doesn't mean it sucks a$$ or Burton has sold out or anything. I live and breathe in the emo community because I love all those kids, but one thing I HATE is the "sold out" mentality. I find that people respect me for who I am because I'm NOT afraid to say I like Panic! or....hell...Justin Timberlake!

I have always love Tim Burton. Edward Scissorhands was the first movie I ever saw, and I have love NMBC ever since opening day in 93. I have alot of the merch form both Suncoast and...yes...(god help my soul) Hot Topic! I love the film, score, characters, etc..., not because it's a trend, but because I LIKE IT. I'm getting Jack tatooed on my other arm because I WANT to, not because I saw some a-hole in a band do it. And I find it much easier to buiold relationships and be firends with people if there is a mutual respect for the other person's opinions, etc... (which is why I'm not bashing individuals on here, just the mentality that being spread around...)

Down with neo-disney, hooray for Burton keeping his art intact, and screw anyone who thinks Corpse Bride was just made to be a cash-cow...lol (just kiddin...he he)

p.s.--i like what OyCristo had to say up above too...some truth in that, yes there is...

Here's the deal. I do NOT appreciate people mindlessly bashing not only one of favourite directors, but my alltime favourite film. It's an excellent children's flick, not to mention the beauty of stop-motion animation. I don't know any of these artists in person, so..really, I can't judge what kind of people they are. I am not familiar with fall-out boy, but I am familiar with Manson, and while I would put what he does in the category of performance art, and not really music, I would have to say he is still one of my favourite artists. If any of you lot who are insulting him have any substance to your argument, I'll listen. But I don't see a reason for an insult without a cause. I personally am very excited for the re-release.

Okay, one, Tim Burton does not get royalties for the merchandise. He first thought up NmB4Xmas when he was working at Disney as a, graphic consultant I think it was.. anyways, when he started working for Disney they made him sign a document stating that everything he made there was owned by Disney (which is why he had to make the movie with Disney). So ya, he got paid for the joba and all and of course get royalties from the movie, but he doesn't get sh** from the merch. I personally am disappointed in this CD, other then Manson, it seems there are only sh**ty MTV pretty boy emo bands with no actual talent (in the words of the only good band on the CD "We love your face, we'd really like to sell you" The Dope Show-Marylin Manson). Oh and Corpse Bride had been an idea floating around Tim Burton's head for a while before he made it. So if you don't really know what you are talking about, don't slander talented, interesting people like Mr. Burton.

Panic! at the disco is pretty annoying.. and Fall Out boy is too... and i dont know the other bands to really criticize them but otherwise i'm not the one up there singing and expressing myself.. they are.. so i'm not going to hate on them because they are 'emo' and what not.... all i can say is i personally dont see them as music... especially Panic! at the disco.. but Manson is a different story.. your talking about a man with artistic qualities... and by his own standards... that's why people hate him, but at the same time others love him for it... hell Ozzy Osbourne has complemented Manson many times... the very name 'Marilyn Manson' is a work of art itself.

I myself have always loved Tim Burton as an artist first and then as a director. Nightmare is by far his most amazing work and to those people who don't think so, good for you, everyone has their own opinion and that is what makes the world a unique and creative place. The movie itself is a view into one of the most artistic minds that we actually know about today. Tim Burton didn't sell out because of the release of Nightmare, it is a chance to allow the kids that watched the movie and grew up with it to see it again and spread the joy that they had and still have when watching it. The music score is incredible!!!! Elfman knew what he was doing and to people that are saying Burton sold out, doesn't that mean Elfman sold out also? I grew up with the movie. I was five when it came out and I am almost twenty now and still love it. I will admit it does irritate me to see the new trend of Nightmare everywhere but I know that I am a true fan and that nobody can take it away from me. I am a fanatic yes. I have my Nightmare tattoo's and wear them proudly because I know even fifty years from now it will hold a special place in my heart and thoughts. As for the bands, it honestly doesn't matter what kind of music they are, just if they do it justice and I think they will because they all grew up with the movie too. If certain groups of people are complaining that it is all emo bands, metal, etc. oh well it just goes to show that all types of people enjoy this movie and want to have a part in it. I can't wait until the movie and I will buy the album because I love all the bands that are on it, yes I enjoy all types of music. Well Burton Fan you seem to be the one to talk too on this board so I hope to hear from you soon.

Tim burton is a genius of modern gothic cinema, disney are wanting money not him. yes he cares wether his films do well, but ultimately he does his films because he connects with them, somthing bands should remeber to do with their music and not do seel out emo rubbish or copy cat metal rip offs. he is an original auteur, of which there are very few in music.
