Metal Supergroup with Vinne Paul, Chad Grey, Greg Tribbett And Nothingface members

Band Photo: Mudvayne (?)
The recently rumored band will feature Mudvayne members Chad Gray on vocals and Greg Tribbett on guitar, along with Nothingface's Tom Maxwell on guitar and Jerry Montano on bass. Vinnie Paul will of course handle the drums.
In a bulletin that briefly ran on Nothingface's MySpace page, Montano said that "The five of us have been working our asses off on our 'Top Secret' project," that the new material the group has been working on "is amazing," and that their album should be out in the spring, followed by a U.S. tour.
The name for the group has yet to be officially confirmed.

Nothingface f***ing OWNS!!! I can't wait to hear what the sound is like. I really hope the guys from nothingface wrote the majority of the riffs on this album, Their style mixed with vinnie, and chads voice should be great. I think the mudvayne guitarist is the weakest link in the chain, but he's decent. This band is going to be sick as hell.
I'm calling them Pan-Damage Mud Nothing until they have an official name
I seem to remember an interview with Tom (helluva guitartist but No Dime if your not up on Nothingface) where he mentioned having a huge secret project but that Nothingface would not bein any danger from it....This really will be a band to watch for.
I've always considered NF to be alt-metal....tiny bits of nu-metal in there. Way ahead of their time though...they were sort of a Mudvayne before Mudvayne came along...particularly the guitars and vocals. Slightly heavier than maybe the labels imply....Especially earlier works.
I would suggest Violence to start with...particularly "Make your own Bones" and "Everlasting Godstopper".
The band got a very striking sound out of the drums on that record and the guiters pull in all these weird nuances (ultra-metallic surf-rock guitars, just at times but it works). NF's lyrics tend to be sort of ho-hum one minute and then they throw you a line that makes your eyes widen...
Overall pretty good, nothing legendary but I have Violence and I've head the other 3.
I'm a fan of Nothingface. Love their stuff. I agree, there is a bit of nu-metal in there, though they're a bit heavier than most any other nu-metal band you'll hear, which is probably what I like about them. I think I first heard about these guys on the Freddy vs Jason soundtrack... oh well. at least SOMETHING good came from that movie.
It's not hard to imagine.
I hope all the band memebers try to go beyond their signature sounds. I'd like to hear a little bit the alt metal flavor of NF and Mudvayne as well as that Pantera groove metal vibe, but I want something all together differnt too.....
crossing fingers.

Hey Mudvayne isnt that bad. Don't know that much about Nothingface but I'm not gonna say that this is gonna suck or something to that effect. I can't wait to hear a name. Should be awesome. Greg can make some awesome riffs and Chad has a good voice in my opinion. Rüd pretty much makes up Mudvayne. In the early albums he dominated. now the guitar has taken over the band but should be awesome. Can't wait to hear it.
As long as it didn't break them up then they should have gotten Bjorn "Speed" Strid from Soilwork/Disarmoni Mundi. He is definitely my favorite singer! In my opinion I think he is an excellent singer and screamer! I think he is the perfect frontman. The singer from In Flames is pretty awesome too, I don't know his name off the top of my head. But the band could possibly sound kind of like Soilwork with Speed's signature voice. What would anybody else think of this? I'm just curious.

Why would they choose the guitarist from Mud instead of Ryan? since the only weak link in mudvayne is the guitarist....he sucks, so this isn't an ultimate supergroup...what a shame, and i've never heard anything from nothingface....i wanna see Lamb of God Guitarists, with Chimaira Drummer , with Caliban Singer and Mudvayne's Bass....sounds good to me....but i could do better, those are just the mainstagers....
I dont like the line -up. Mudvayne suck in my opinion. But I'll give it a try when it all comes out of the wash. Of all the guitarist on the planet, why would you want the mudvayne guy? Maybe I havnt heard him like Vinnie has. Maybe he can actually play and has been holding back. I hope it all sounds cool. Zakk Wylde would have been the better choice if Zakk wasnt too busy. BLEED BLACK LABEL!!!!!!!
People don't realize that because of the nature of Mudvayne being a 4 piece with a noodling bassist and fill-crazy drummer with such a severe emphasis on vocals that the guitarist has actually become the bands one "simple" rhythm keeper.
He's holding the other 3 together...Most often the bassists job.
I'll bet if he and Tom trade leads we're going to see some interesting stuff from Greg.

i love metal and always have, but metal fans are idiots, i dont think anyone was "chosen" for this band they are all just friends and want to make some music so who cares what joe blow from east bumblefck thinks about who is in the band. its just great that vinnie feels comfortable enough to start playing again and im sure it will rock, RIP Dime
lol who ISN'T Vinnies friend? Or at least, wouldn't be, given the chance? oh yeah. Anselmo. Well, apart from him... Vinnie has friends everywhere in the music industry. Any band you like. They love him. As do we. So I still don't see why Vinnie couldn't choose some seriously talented friends to work with. Maybe he's trying to make it simple for himself, ease his way back into playing. Look forward to hearing whatever comes of this assortment of musicianship, though.
Alot of people are basing this band off what the other bands sound like. Havent you ever seen those sketches when they mix 2 celebrities together and show what their wierdo kid would look like. Thats what you all are doing. Pantera was a stretch from Damageplan, although some of the obvious (and welcomming at times) sounds were recognizable and likeable, it was no where near the same band.
I love all 3 of these bands, in fact its obvious I love mudvayne, why else would my name be spelled the way it is, I own every nothingface cd, and have been a fan of them for nearly 4 years or so. And who the f*** doesnt love pantera. So if you like any/all of the musicians here you should be able to count on them for putting together the best possible f***ing sound they can. Honestly, musically Vinnie cant go wrong, and he and Dime chose some great guys for DP, although Lachmans vocal range was limited, and a tad nu-metalish I still liked it, and im sure I will love this.

I agree Vayne. All of these guys have the abilities to produce some kickass music, and no one should expect anything less. But that goes for these musicians too. I've been disappointed by both NF and Mudvayne so there's no reason it can't happen again. I definitely hope not, though, for VP's sake.
Yeah good counter-point, there have been ups and downs, but obviously not everything touched can be gold........unless possibly Vinnie is there. Im sure Vinnie wouldnt let some slackjobs tranish his name in music, its like winning a super-bowl and retiring, musicians should want to go out on a good note, and im sure Vinnie will ensure that.

Well Ive never been a big fan of side projects, and members of other bands forming these so-called super groups. Now dont get me wrong. I love all these musicians, but in there respected places. I always have a open ear, and Im willing to give it a fair listen. I suppose we will have to wait, and see how it turns out. Not a fan of Damageplan, but again a big fan of all the bands they originally spawned from. Good luck to them all!

all of these bands have similar characteristics, and all individuals involved are all cool people (although montano is up for debate apparently). and if you have been paying attention to mudvayne and ESPECIALLY nothingface, they have been moving away from nu-metal for a while. with mudvaynes last release it maintains a lot of nu-metal aspects, but they are always trying something new. and nothingface hasnt been nu-metal since pacifier, which is billions of years ago. plus they all idolize pantera and VP so good things may be in the future.
plus the term "supergroup" is pleasing. i wish it was used more often.

i havent put my 2 cents in about anything here b 4 but i NEED 2 on this topic! this is gonna rock my a55 off!!! these are some of the most awesome people on the planet and i am so xcited that i might wet my pants when i hear this 4 the 1st time!!! those of u who havent heard NOTHINGFACE are missing out, u NEED 2 check them out! i have everything i can get my hands on from all these amazing guys. everything PANTERA,MUDVAYNE,NOTHINGFACE, DAMAGEPLAN and anything spawned from any of these guys has 2 rock!! RIP DIME

Hey this just may be the best music of the year...Mudvayne kicks arse...Vinnie's arms and legs have been missed in the metal world and Nothingface is an excellent band too...... There needs to be more collaborations among the metal kingdom...
R.I.P Dimebag.....................and Phil A$$hole is FAG.....he shoulda been beat a long time ago
vayne theories: "Im sure Vinnie wouldnt let some slackjobs tranish his name in music"
...i'm guessing you haven't heard of pat lachman and bobzilla. i'm a dief***inghard pantera fan but i'll be the first to admit that vinny and dimes taste in metal was sh** to say the least. it's apparent that phil was the extreme influence when it came to their heaviest material. phil routinely acknowledged bands like mayhem, at the gates, pitchshifter, morbid angel, and slayer at the live shows while dime and vinny jammed with slipknot and disturbed.
the guys are gods when it came to the instruments...but they know d*** about the underground scene

First off RememberMetal? made the best point so far- Greg ties Mudvayne together. The guitar is not meant to take the spotlight in hardly any Mudvayne songs (at least the best ones), so who here can say we really know what Greg can do? Mudvayne owns, although they're not what they once were.
Next, Phil is an a$$hole. He was singing praise for Slayer and Slayer rip off bands because he knew he was an a$$hole and he wanted stupid people left around who back him up after Pantera broke up because they were fed up with his sh**. Anyone who thinks Phil drove that band needs to take a look back at what Pantera was and where Phil went afterwards. Enough said.
Anyone who hasn't heard Nothingface is missing out. Although Pacifier is NOT a must hear album, the next three all are and each one has its own distinct sound while kicking a$$. Tough to say between Skeletons and Violence for the best, but Everyday Atrocity is amazing as well. Nothingface is probably the best band that no one has heard of.
As for the name to this upcoming band that will indeed shut any nonbelievers mouths when they finally release an album, how about Panting Mudface.

Vinnie Paul is the only member of this so called "supergroup" that should be breathing, period. You people have no concept of metal if you actually believe that nothingface even belongs in that category. For real, you guys prolly still worship korn and collect "nightmare before christmas" garbage from hot topic. For the record opeth is way more talented than either of the nu-metal bands could even dream of being.....nuff said.

Opeth has a keyboard. Keyboard = Suck 8===D <---- a p***s
Mudvayne is number one they generaly allaround kick arse, nothing face is good to and as quoted by maddox "pantera pretty much has a monopoly on everything that rocks". This will be mean.
Opeth still smells.

Instead of everyone trying to talk smack or praise em. Why dont we wait till it comes out and then we can all talk about it and what we think. And to those who just want to dis Mudvayne or Nothingface you appear to someone who is stuck on what the perfect music sounds like GUESS WHAT there is no perfect music, so shut up and listen when it comes out

Why did they take the worst aspects of Mudvayne and put them in this band? Ryan Martinie is second to none when it comes to bass playing (I think they didn't pick him because of his jazz virtuoso side projects), if they would have had him rather than the guitarist this could have been one of the best metal side projects ever.

Fair enough. I love Pantera and Damageplan but I hate Mudvayne. I don't know Nothingface so I'll just see how this one turns out.
