Christian Hard Rockers Stryper To Open For Slayer

Reunited Christian hard rockers STRYPER and the legendary Spain-based heavy metal metal band WARCRY have been confirmed to perform on the main stage of the third edition of the Monterrey Metal Fest, set to take place Saturday, September 23, 2006 at the Coca Cola Auditorium in the city of Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico. SLAYER will headline the event, which promises to be the "biggest and baddest version yet," featuring "6-7 of the biggest names in heavy metal music from all over the world on the main stage and 6-7 up and coming bands on the second stage," according to a press release.

The official festival pre-party will be held on Friday, September 22, 2006 at the Cafe Iguana with mini-sets from bands that will be performing on the festival's main stage and second stage.

I think this is a great idea. I'm sure Stryper is very aware of the Satanic imagery at a Slayer show. This is a great opportuninty for Stryper to share their faith and the love of Jesus before a crowd that normally would most likely not be exposed to it. Kudos to both bands for making this happen.

It is very surprising that styper would open up for slayer, but you have to admit both bands have pretty big nards to do this, the grace of god is available for all even die hard slayer fans. Being a christian is your relationship with god, not what others tell you to think. I think you would be surprised how many metal heads believe that jesus christ is their savior. Where do you think most of metal bands get their material? (the bible) I don't believe that slayer is satanic, I do think people get drawn to them, to set them apart from everything else, to feel like they are a tough, plus their music rocks.

yes slayer has written many anti-christian/organization songs, but that doesn't mean that they are satanic. yes their stage shows are a bit ostentatious and satanic. but slayer has written about other themes such as war, suicide and struggle. besides, even if their image is satanism, EVERY band, group, artist and performer has their own unique image. it helps define who they are as a band or individual. That's why there are a hundered different sub-genres of metal. and who cares anyway--its f***ing slayer!!

I'm a huge metal fan, and i can tell, that from those metal bands I have seen live, Stryper has been one of the best. They are really heavy. I'm quite sure they're going to play really heavy set as they played in Spain in march, where was also many dark and even satanist bands. Example W.A.S.P was there. And I'm sure that Stryper has seen more St. Peter's crosses (cross upside down) than any of you. I think that night will be exiting. Unfortunately I can't see them, not Salyer or Stryper.

I am a huge stryper fan and for a band like Slayer to ask Stryper to open for them must tell us a couple of things: 1) Slayer has respect for Strypers musical ability 2) Stryper put on one of the best live shows this year ( and that was from non christian articles) 3) Slayer look at Stryper reviving the band and doing well and want something of that without having to be over the top. 4) look at the billboard charts and the history of Stryper with 3 songs at the top of the non christian charts at the same time 5) ozz fox will play any of the slayer guitarists under the table( with his eyes closed) Like the comment above enjoy the music, enjoy the show. but at the end of the day it is where you spend eternity that really matters.. Heaven or hell We all have to choose, and yes it is a battle of who we all choose.
