Tool's "10,000 Days" topped the Billboard 200 chart, selling more than double than the latest from Pearl Jam album. The Tool Dissectional/Volcano set gave the band a career-best sales week, moving 564,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan, to put it at No. 1. "10,000 Days" also takes over the lead from Godsmack's "IV" (Universal) on the Top Rock Albums chart.

Tool's last album, "Lateralus," also opened at No. 1 on the big chart in 2001 with sales of 555,000 units. It has sold more than 2.3 million to date.

Tool is planning to promote "Vicarious," the seven-minute first single from its new album, "10,000 Days," with a DVD single in the coming weeks. The group previously issued singles in this format for its tracks "Schism" and "Parabola."

After completing a round of American dates later this month and ensuing tours of Europe and Japan, the band will return to the States in the fall.

I'm just glad when good, sincere music tops the charts, gives me hope. I personally don't think this is Tools best, but it got some great stuff on it.

it's almost too tempting to agree with your list. The immediate love for Opiate's pure and simple anger is so hard to place behind 10KD...
I'm counting on 10KD growing on me somemore (since I've only had it for 8 days) but I may well like Opiate after Lat when all is said in done.

It takes forever for me to fully digest a new Tool album.

I am a big Tool fan, but the new album was just mediocre to me. By how great Aenima and Lateralus were, I thought this album was going to be just amazing. I was mostly disappionted with the guitar work. None of those signature guitar parts that Adam is so good at coming up with. Damn I was hoping for much much more!

I can see where you are coming from, Linkin' Park killa, but try to look at this CD as a progression. Opiate and Undertow was the birth of raw talent - TOOL. Aenima was a band stamping an epic masterpiece on the history of music and coming into their own. Lateralus was a soundtrack to life which capped an already impressive resume (which only consisted of 3 other works). Now we come to 10K days. This album seems to lack the multitude of overpowering guitar riffs of Aenima but replaces it with a meshing of all instruments including voice. Bass lines are more powerful. Vicarious definitely starts off the CD with an purpose to say, "remember me?" because it is so similar to Lateralus but the rest of the CD is a progression. Overall great job...blends Pink Floyd with classic TOOL with more Pink Floyd and maybe some CLUTCH (the Pot) for good measure. After a few listens, it just becomes another great TOOL album to leave in your player for weeks. Hasn't left mine since May 2.

Wow Bastard of Bodom mad at Tool fans with mixed feelings towards the new album. I'm not saying 10k days isn't a good album, I'm just saying that it isn't that impressive to ME! Nothing spectacular. Nothing over the top. Things I was expecting for this album. Just because I was expecting pure greatness instead of just an alright album doesn't mean u have to get all butt-hurt about it. So f*** u, 16 year old pathetic virgin. Damn f***in christian!

I've only listened to the whole of 10K Days straight through three times so far, and I love it already. Chances are it'll hit the top of my list pretty soon for a good while. Problem is, each time I give a Tool album another spin, I pick up on something awesome that I hadn't before, and that album becomes instantaneously my favourite for the next couple of weeks.

To be frank, I would prefer Lateralus over Opiate any day if it wasnt for the song 'Opiate'. That song makes the album for me, and merely because of that song the whole album is near top of the list. Of course, I enjoy the rest of Opiate immensely, too, though not quite so much as most of the songs on Lateralus.

I've heard a lot of people complaining about songs like Jambi (ie where's the heavy riffs?, it's just some dude wailing about nothing!, etc), but personally, I havn't heard a single second of Tool (any album, any song) that hasnt been absolutely awe-inspiring. This band makes me feel like a damned groupy.

personally, this album is a laugh, half of it is fillers, a few duds, and then a couple of good songs, namely Vicariuos, Jambi and Right In Two.. the rest are crap, I admit that Rosetta Stoned is OK but lyrics like "sh** THE BED" wow Tool, way to go. I hope to GOD that this is a joke and the real one rumored to come out soon does.

Every TOOL fan wants more...but why would they release another CD after they began their tour? Whether you like the CD or not (which rocks by the way), a lot of production went into it. It's no throw away album. That's just an insult to the art that is TOOL. Also, did you get a look at the packaging? That is not how you would package a joke/hoax now is it? I hate to say it, but we will probably be waiting another 5 years (if we're lucky) for more TOOL. Long enough for them to tour abroad and the U.S. for a couple years, then for Maynard to do APC for a couple years and hopefully have it in him at 46 years old (5 years from now) to start this cycle over again. I hope to get a few more TOOL CD's in my lifetime, but if not, the 5 previous albums will definitely suffice. Listen to 10K for a couple weeks straight and then throw Opiate in your player...it's a crazy trip in the EVOLUTION of art!!!
