It's Official: Lollapalooza 2006 To Suck

Every once in a while Lollapalooza gets a token decent heavy act or two and a good number of rock and alternative rock bands. But this year's heaviest band is none other than Queens of the Stone Age. Pathetic. Other than the Red Hot Chilli Peppers, the lineup seems especially lame.

This summer's Lollapalooza (Aug. 4-6 in Chicago's Grant Park) will be headlined by The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Kanye West and Wilco, and also features Common, Manu Chao, Queens Of The Stone Age, the Shins, Death Cab For Cutie, Matisyahu, Ween and Jack White's new band, the Raconteurs, Flaming Lips, Ryan Adams, Sonic Youth, Thievery Corporation, Sleater-Kinney, Broken Social Scene, New Pornographers, Secret Machines, Gnarls Barkley, Cursive, Stars, Calexico, Nada Surf, Nickel Creek, Lady Sovereign, Feist, the Frames, Sparta, Jeremy Enigk, Wolfmother and Eels.

Sad sad day when RHCP and Sonic Youth are your best festival acts....Ween sucks so much I get a headache just remembering that "push the little daisies and make em come up" song....

Most of this is ultra indie, dance rock and garage rock nonsense is so forgotten in 6 monthes it's absurd....Most of these bands are the ones that get dropped by the trend-maker fans the second they get a major label deal or have a hit song......Elitist metal fans do that too, but not with such abandon.

lollapalooza has always been a predominantly alternative festival that also boasted a lot of variety. this lineup is really good if you're into indie. i don't think anything about it is really a surprise.

this year I don't have a lot of criticism, but i have one big one: Lolla 06 totally lacks a heavier end, and that f***in blows, especially as it pertains to this site.

but there are still 50 more bands to be announced. Mindless Self Indulgence and Rollins Band are rumored all over the place, i'm crossing my fingers. i'm not optimistic, but i'll reserve judgement.

Although i have seen those two bands live and they are tolerable I hate to tell you this
but what is the name of this site? And I disagree compared to bands like Emperor, Immortal,
Morbid Angel, Neuraxis and so forth i can sit here and named hundreds of "metal" bands that
had more talent than your two aforementioned bands. Now go back to your Gorillaz collection
and kindly fukk off.

Actually I am not a fan of the Gorillaz. I like all forms of music, I've been through long phases where metal was all I listened to, followed by a long classic rock phase, and I have only recently been introduced to these two specific bands. Having said that I feel like I am now rather open minded and I recognize them as two of the most original bands of our era. I am not a fanboy of any sorts, and it even took me a long time to admit the Lips greatness. You have to admit that the typical metal-head immediately dismisses any that isn't dark, angry, or loud is rather close-minded. I find many of these bands, like Morbid Angel for instance, to be extremely cliche and phony. Sorry, thats just my opinion. I don't know why I even posted on here, I was searching for some Ween news on google and stumbled across this page and felt like defending my boys. Now I'll take you're advice and kindly go "fukk off". Maybe you should go to your Korn collection and do the same.

Two of the best bands of the last 20 years? Give me a f***ing break. Not only do you disregard the likes of SLAYER, PANTERA and recent talented acts such as LAMB OF GOD (among others), but you do it all in support of the FLAMING LIPS.??? Hell, you would of been better off and more credible endorsing GREEN DAY. Real rock is meant to be dark... its meant to be fast... and god damnit its meant to challenege what the currrent trends are suggesting youlisten to. You call being angry, loud and dark close-minded... well f*** , what do you call being happy, light and soft... open-minded? Right. I can meet my demise with a grin upon my stiffen face knowing that my playlist and overall taste in music doesn't comprise a current trend that is made available by the "it" band at the time just because they shy away from what is unprecedented in the overall music industry. You know what I will kindly f*** off before I listen to anymore of this trendy talk on an issue that has no business being postedon this website... maybe you should go to your YEAH YEAH YEAHS collection and go do the same ... or jump of a bridge, you decide, but please do consider the ladder.

and for those of you complaining about the music industry and how they are capitalistic whores what about metallica? and every other rock/metal band out there why do they play? so people hear them and how that works is a record company cuts them a deal for money and signs them and then they play at ozzfest or some other boring festival.

Rulin is the biggest Korn fan out there don't let him fool you!!!! Anyway I have read all 33 posts and there is alot of good one's but truth be told this IS an alternative festival . lollapalooza was started by Perry Ferrell eons ago to shrug off mainstream and all that it stood for. If you look at the past lineups i.e. Butthole surfers,Ice Cube,House of Pain,Rage Against the Machine,Dinosaur Jr.,Beastie Boys,Hole,Moby,Wu-tang,Tricky,Orb there was some very good line-ups with different genres of music. They tried to bring it back but due to low tickets sales they cancelled. Now they are trying again this year with some exceptions. At least 2/3's of this line-up is garbage with a bunch of been there done that bands. This line-up is proof Perry doesn't have his hand in the "cookie jar". This show will not do good for 1 reason Lollapalooza was great in the 90's with some kickass bands But the likes of Wu-tang, Rage, aren't together anymore and peoples taste in music has changed along the way. I would love to see Rap,Metal,Punk,Trip hop and maybe some Dance like Paul Oakenfold thrown into the mix for one hell of a show. But like I said it won't you can't fuse together genres together anymore people are too close minded.

Kfc Rulz.
