Now Playing: Negatyve One's Playlist
Hello and welcome to my section in Now Playing. First I will clarify that I am part of what Deathbringer likes to call the NWOAM/C (New Wave of American Metal/Metalcore). So all of my stuff will be newer pure american metal.
Everybody has those staple cd's that always seem to find a way into your changer no matter what, so I will start with those.
Lamb of God - Ashes of the Wake. I friggin love this cd, cover to end. Its really hard for me to find a cd that I can spin countlessly all the way through and not get tired of it but if anything has ever come close this is the cd. The countless speed and rhythm of this cd never let me down.
Devildriver - s/t or The Fury of Our Makers Hand. This group has yet to dissapoint me. In fact I couldnt imagine filling my cd tray without at least one cd by these guys. Although cover to cover they might not be as good as Lamb of God, their unique style drives me to consistantly listen to them.
Trivium - Asendancy. Ive only recently picked this cd up, and I did mostly because Pull Harder On The Strings of My Martyr is such a badass song. This band is very young and while they have a long way to go seem to have mastered so much musically, its a must own in my collection.
And now for the various cds I spin through in a week :
Heaven Shall Burn - Antigone. A Band really only known to Europe, but very quickly catching popularity here despite never touring. Every hardcore type band from the states picks these guys up for their euro stops, including currently As I Lay Dying. So if you like them, or any of the bands Ive named Id check out their site and single - The Weapon They Fear.
As I Lay Dying - Shadows Are Security. Ah yes, the hardcore (emoish if youd like to call them that) cd in my player. Always a good pick me up especially in the morning as I dont drink coffee or soda pop really. I also recently did a review on this cd in the reviews section.
Shadows Fall - Ah the band referred to as my generations Iron Maiden (Yes, Im only 21). This band is great and they have everything including a killer live show. I cannot get enough of Brian Fairs vocals.
And for brand new cds Ive picked up and cant stop spinning :
The Haunted - rEVOLVEr. I heard so much about this band before I even started listening to them. Deathbringer recommended them himself, but they always seemed to be one of the bands that elluded my ears. Now that I downloaded (legally) a mp3 of their single "99" I was hooked. Although the cd itself isnt that great, there are many songs on there that maintain in my playlist.
Unearth - The Oncomming Storm - I always loved Unearth but never got around to actually getting a cd of theirs until this one. I cant say enough about how well this band plays together and cant wait to catch them live later this month.
And now for my throwback cd pick of this article (as I will do in every article)......
Nothingface - Pacifier, possibly the best cd they ever released (Skeletons was good but not cover to cover) Im a huge old school nothingface fan and have been listening for years, its a shame they broke up and im real skeptical about their new project with skrapes frontman.
Thats it for me, Keep the Horns High Metal Heads \m/

BTBAM has a certain lack of purpose to their stuff but no band can mix it up like they can,death-thrash-metalcore-melodeath,i just love it,i'm not sure what can really annoy you about black dahlia, they are fantastic band all the way through in my eyes, the 2 diffrerent vocal styles really give them a nice edge that we dont often see
Man, I love the Black Dahlia. I guess you're right, to each their own.
But I can't stand BTBAM. Sure they switch it up, but they still have no sound to call their own. And vocals/songwriting really is pretty awful.
So which do you like better, Negatyve? Frail Words or Shadows are Security?
How can you not like tempo changes, especially as a metalcore fan? I just don't get it. But then again I just got back from the Anthrax concert and it was all about tempo changes. They go from speed metal to a ripping heavy groove in no time. Makes for a greeat pit.
LOG, SF, Trivium and Devil Driver are the only real new-comer "metal" bands that have impressed me in recent years.
Black Dahlia is an acquired taste, give them about 5 or 6 good spins and you'll start likeing them.....Their not great in my opinion, but very good, and quite promising....
Time changes are fun!...
Listen to Dillinger Escape Plans "Miss Machine"....heh, or a greater dare may be "Calculating Infinity", if you can digest that then you can listen to anything....Nothing can repulse you easily after you learn to listen to those 2 records.....
Dillinger is probably second among bands that annoy the living f*** out of me.
I like Friar Words Collapse better.
I have give Dahlia a chance, still no dice.
And when I say tempo changes I mean from Emo to hardcore and back 16 times in 1 god-damn song.
ETID is too emo for me. As I Lay Dying pushes it, but their straight hardcore tracks make up for that.
Shadows Fall best cd was also their first one, but LOG and Devildrivers most recent efforts carry the biggest waves with me.
RM's last post really nailed it,i think the toughest bands that i've learned to like is ion dissonance or the red chord,i had a hard time listening to both at first but i've now found them both to favorites of mine, aquiring a taste for a certain style or band is what its all about
"I like Friar Words Collapse better."
Rock on, there's something we agree on.
As for The Red Chord, I've never listened to their debut. But Clients took a few spins to get used to, and I can't get enough of it. I love the damn songwriting.
Everytime I Die is just horrible. Along with Eighteen Visions and Atreyu, suffer the same symtoms.
i agree about 18V and the newer atreyu, but ETID being too emo, i dont think so. and the red chord is very talented, as well as BDM. there is nothing wrong with tempo changes, it makes things interesting, the majority of music stays the same and bands like ETID, radiation 4, the locust make things interesting by changing everything up
you see,
i come here every now and then anymore after being a more than frequent visitor of this website. The news was kept tight, interesting, and most of all metal.
but now even you deathbringer have engulfed yourself and your site into the festering recycled c***f*** trendy "core" scene.
this metalcore garbage unfortunately gets feasted upon by the masses while i sit back and watch creative songwriters and actual throwback metal bands like aborted, biomechanical, and watch them lay undiscovered by most when a site like this should be giving them promotion.
you name off bands like as i lay dying and lamb of god and hail them for being metal? you little half assed music fans have no clue that naglfar has released the most influential black metal cd in about 10 years.
this site has become another blabbermouth and i'm sick of getting deja f***ing vu listening, repeating, and releasing my bowels to these copy cat d***wads.
lets try to diversify the news and acknowledge originality even for nostalgic purposes mmkay?
Yeah, way too much Korn news here. I think there is in excess of at least 4 to 5 Korn columns/news sections which is 4 to 5 too many for an Underground Metal news site.
I think Naglfar are absolutely brilliant "bradisp***ed." I'm a little more partial to Sheol myself.
i hate to bash the site but bradisp***ed definitly brings up a damn good point, the reason most of us dont b**** about metalcore on here is because nu metal still exists here as well, and in order to live up to the name "metal underground" i definitly think you need to do away with sh** like that
Riiight. I forgot how Lamb of God is metalcore. Sometimes people are so quick to jump all over something for being trendy that it's just as annoying hearing the complaints as the trend followers. God forbid LOG have some success, they must be riding the latest trend of metalcore then... I agree that metalcore is the latest trend, but it doesn't mean there are not good musicians there or bands who were doing it before it was trendy. AILD has 3 albums out. Unearth has 2 and a couple of EPs. I enjoy them both. We cover lots of metal and related genres here. After all, if hardcore is a combination of punk and metal (as it is usually defined), then metalcore is certainly enough metal to be discussed. Sorry if we aren't metal-elitist enough for you or stuck in a certain time period, but I personally hate elitism and have a broad taste in metal spanning all of its subgenres and am old enough to have seen many trends come and go. We haven't suddenly reduced our coverage of other forms of metal. I've posted on a couple black metal bands I'd never heard of recently. But perhaps we'll have a little more coverage on black/death/doom once Gothique returns as well, since she's definitely into all those and no HxC.
I TOO USED TO VISIT THIS SITE AND POST ON THE THREADS ALL THE TIME UNTIL FAGGS LIKE BRAD AND HIS "NOT METAL ENOUGH FOR ME" ATTITUDE ABOUT EVERY DAMN BAND JUST GOT TIRED.
HE IS A PATHETIC, DEPRESSED, AND DEPRIVED HUMAN BEING WHO WILL NEVER BE CONTENT WITH JUST BEING ALIVE. WHAT A WASTE OF SKIN. FUKKKK BRAD AND ROCK ON DEATHBRINGER.

if we're talkin american/metalcore then i think i would add a life once lost-hunter,every time i die-gutter phenomenon,between the buried and me-alaska,all that remains-this darkened heart,darkest hour-undoing ruin,and i think you nailed the rest Negatyve
