Mexico Metal Fest Returns To The Stage After Two Years' Hiatus

After a two years’ delay, Mexico Metal Fest is back! The Monterrey, Mexico based metal festival will finally happen on September 23rd and 24th at Expo Guadalupe in the municipality of Guadalupe, Nuevo Leon. Amazingly, the Mexico Metal Fest organizers were able to salvage the majority of the original line-ups from 2020/2021 that were both postponed due to the pandemic.

A major highlight for this year’s festival is that it will include Germany’s Big Four: Kreator, Destruction, Sodom and Tankard. I couldn’t tell you when the last time these historic thrash bands have graced the same stage together but it was probably decades ago, in Germany no less.

The amazing line-up also includes some of death and black metal’s most storied bands. Recently reunited Swedish death metal gods, Dismember, take the stage on Friday, September 23rd. Bay Area Death Metal legends, Possessed, will make their 2nd appearance at Mexico Metal Fest on Saturday. Greece’s original and most famous black metal band, Rotting Christ, will make their first appearance at the festival on Friday. And last but not least, Triumph of Death aka Hellhammer, will be making their first appearance ever on Mexican soil on Friday.

Saturday’s headlining act and probably the most anticipated band for the 2022 rendition of Mexico Metal Fest is W.A.S.P. Blackie Lawless might be the only original member remaining for this historic heavy metal act, but as long they play the classics such as “Animal (Fuck Like a Beast)”, “Blind in Texas” and “I Wanna Be Somebody”, no one probably will care who’s on stage next to the legendary front-man.

Mexico Metal Fest may have some of the world’s hottest metal acts outside of Mexico gracing the stage, but there are several from their own backyard that need mentioning. Brujeria (Not exactly from Mexico, but everything they sing is in the Spanish Language, so…close enough!), Cemican (Indigenous death metal!), Cenotaph and Last Breath are just a sampling of the armada of Mexico based bands that will round out this incredible line-up.

In addition to non-stop metal throughout the whole weekend, Mexico Metal Fest will have two days’ worth of “meet and greets”, a gigantic beer garden and enough cerveza stands to give even Tankard a run for their money! There will also be several food vendors (TACOS!) and a ton of merch booths. Tickets for this amazing festival are still available via the
Mexico Metal Fest website.

Metal isn't just a type of music, it's a lifestyle for Nikos Mixas. In addition to playing guitar for the Phoenix's own Mosara, he's a contributing writer for V13 and The Sludgelord. And when he's taking a break from it all and on vacation, you can almost be certain he's banging his head at a metal festival somewhere interesting.
