Slayer singer/bassist Tom Araya has posted a list of conservative leaning humor and caues some uproar with it:

“If a conservative doesn’t like guns, he doesn’t buy one.
If a liberal doesn’t like guns, he wants all guns outlawed.”

“If a conservative is a vegetarian, he doesn’t eat meat.
If a liberal is a vegetarian, he wants all meat products banned for everyone.”

“If a conservative decides he needs health care, he goes shopping for it, or may choose a job that provides it.
A liberal demands that the rest of us pay for his.”

Along with the post, which you can see below, the frontman himself added:

“With all the crazy shit going on I have to ask.
I sit on the fence of reason
Comments an opinions welcomed.”

It’s not surprising that the comment section on the Instagram post quickly erupted with over 1.700 comments, with some fans claiming Araya earned even more of their respect, while others were left offended and upset.

I'm not liberal, but I want any mention of Jesus silenced.

One of the worst aspects of this social media obsessed “culture” is that we have 24/7 access to our favorite artists
Personal thoughts and beliefs, and sadly, most of the old school metal legends are brain dead sheep that cling to illogical conservative beliefs. But i dont listen to slayer or burzum or pantera because i agree with them politically or share their religious or spiritual beliefs. I love a good dozen christian metal and hardcore bands cause the music is incredible. Theres some awesome straight edge bands i listen to while rolling my weed, i agree with some of their message and focus on that, were not gonna be friends and hang. The fans forgot how to be fans now that were all instantly connected. Buy used if youre worried about supporting a fragile republican manbaby or a violent nazi. Tom shouldnt mean sh** to you other than the voice of your favorite song, focus on the healthy anti religious lyrics and ignore the internet drama. Its f***ing sad that in 2018 we still gotta tell the kids to focus on the music, as thats all that matters. At least theres some productive arguments spawning from this, i still remember when the kids ibsession with haircuts was destroying the scenes.

Tom grew up in a conservative country where he had to fend for himself. So his point of view is understandable.

Yeah as a former liberal I wouldn't have understood this post for most my life. I always thought I was liberal because the youth crowd was liberal and W was a dumbass. That was my exposure. In recent years I actually started listening to the right wing as a whole instead of buying into ridicule that they're all christian gun nuts and racists. Turns out no. Turns out they're the ones trying to balance things out.

Well, please note this; Tom is from a very liberal part of the country. It just so turns out that he and many others ( like Exodus band members) have a mind of their own. That's a good thing when you get older. You should get smarter.

Smoketheprophet makes a fantastic point. Social media, like it has between friends, has often driven a wedge between artists and fans when the idea was to bring them closer, usually over politics. It's important to consider that Gary Holt and Kerry King have both expressed disagreement with Tom on this, yet they're still working together, at least until the KISS long farewell tour ends. Regardless of where you stand politically, if you didn't get offended when he sang about the holocaust, 9/11, serial killers etc., why now get upset over a crappy meme?

Again, like Smoketheprophet pointed out, it's important we learn to disagree and move on. I believe most people can do that except in extreme circumstances, (Nazi ideology, religious extremism etc.) I'm a straight edge Communist but I'm buggered if I'm going to stop listening to all the bands that don't think exactly like I do, partly because I wouldn't be left with much to listen to.
