Vuur Releases "My Champion - Berlin" Music Video

Anneke van Giersbergen's new band Vuur is set to release debut album "In This Moment We Are Free - Cities" on October 20th, 2017. Now the group is pleased to reveal an official video for new single "My Champion - Berlin."

Anneke comments: "This song is the opening track of our debut album and it serves as a kind of master of ceremonies. It's both heavy and melodic, it showcases the technical abilities of the band, but you can still sing along to it. That's basically the kind of album I wanted to make. Our guitar player Jord Otto wrote the song and collaborated with producer Joost van den Broek to finalise it. I wrote the lyrics and vocal melodies.

"This song is about Berlin after World War II. The goddess on the Berlin Victory Column was raised to commemorate military victories, but in the song the city speaks to her and is asking her for help to overcome troubled times. I wanted to make a performance video, one that presents the band as a group that is about music and plays with their heart and soul. That's what we are and I am really proud of this band."

02. Time - Rotterdam

GREAT SONG!!!
When I read that ReVamp was disbanding, I was saddened, but hearing Jord Otto's riffs with Anneke's sonorous voice, I am overjoyed for this bright silver lining. This song is a superb opener for the album. I'll be ordering it soon.

I agree. Great song. I love the riffing. For the most part it is simplistic but they make great use of various techniques to create a sonic landscape. Very cool.

I know of Anneke from Ayreon, but I never really followed ReVamp at all. I really enjoy her singing. She has a naturally good voice and doesn't have to constantly belt it out to the max of her range like so many female singers do in metal these days.

I've been listening to a lot of Devin Townsend lately and her guest vocals on some of his songs elevate them that much higher (Grace, Supercrush, Hyperdrive to name a few). I got into ReVamp and Jord Otto's playing through Floor Jensen via After Forever (via Epica). I wonder how many of the riffs on this album were intended for a 3rd Revamp album that wasn't meant to be. I agree on the belted singing. Anneke singing is almost casual in its delivery yet still rich and full bodied. When she does choose to wail, the emphasis blows you away.
