Former Metal Church Vocalist David Wayne Dies
Band Photo: Metal Church (?)
The following press release has been posted at the David Wayne's Metal Church web site:
"On behalf of David Wayne's Metal Church, we would like to express our deepest sorrow in the passing of our metal brother, David Wayne. This is not only a loss for us as a band and his family, but also millions of metalheads throughout the world. David died due to complications from injuries he sustained in a head-on automobile accident several months ago.
"David Wayne was the patented scratchy vocals of several METAL CHURCH albums and was in the process of returning to the metal scene with his new band lineup. His goal was to return to the sounds of METAL CHURCH's albums released in 1984 and 1986. We will always remember the burning words and vocals in 'Gods of Wrath', 'Watch the Children Pray', and 'Start the Fire'. David and his current band had just completed several new songs and were ready to head to the recording studio after their European tour dates this summer.
"Along with David's family and friends, we would ask that cards, letters, and flowers be sent to the below address. Additionally, donations are being accepted to help David's family with funeral expenses.

I agree and the only fake metal queers on this site are the nu-metal douchetards
that post that disrepecting shiit on this site. What if Johnathan Davis died of aids
tomorrow how would you fa**ots feel about that?! You know as much as I bash
nu-metal if one of their musicians died I would pay respects for them too.
Oh, how the mighty have fallen. Words cannot express my sadness. I was truly looking forward to the new Reverend stuff and now it will probably never appear.
Of all the metal groups coming out at the time (Metallica, Megadeth and Anthrax), it was David Wayne's vocals that set Metal Church apart from the pact. The Dark was a masterpiece that the band would never be able to surpass. For now, I will set and listen to Wayne- Metal Church and wonder why the metal community never embraced the CD better. Rest In Peace, Reverend of the Metal Church, we all look forward to joining you on the other side one day.
Man - it's crazy. I just started to get back into the thrash scene - digging out the old tapes and check up to see how everyone is doing and see alot of great muscians have passed. The self titled MC album is one of the greatest - a masterpiece and Mr Wayne deserves his credit. May he rest in peace.
I've seen the evolution of rock since the 60s and among thousands of bands, there´s no doubt Metal Church is one of the graetest still. their powerful metal hit the 80s like a ton of bricks and their sound was pretty distinctive. Mr. Wayne's voice suited perfectly into the band's sound.
great loss for the metal community world wide. RIP.
Another powerful soul has joined the ranks of Rock & Roll Valhalla. Thanks, David, for the legacy you have left us. To all who use these moments as a chance to kick those who are down, just remember, such cowardice ultimately gets you nowhere. If you didn't like David Wayne, or any other fallen icon, for that matter, at least have the decency not to leave a foul mark on their memorial!
f*** me!!! I have been banging the sh** out of my car speakers for the last three days just cranking up that good old one from Metal Church - Live (originally recorded in 1986!)! Awesome, as we all know!. And just 30 minutes ago I read about the death of David Wayne for the first time!!! U can just imagine how I felt! f***ing devastating... Life sucks once more...as usual... What can be said?...
At least he joined the late Greatest of all - Jimi Hendrix... Hope to be there with those guys one day too, when my f***ing time is up... sh**! RIP, David. All good things never last, and f***ing garbage around us seems to live forever...
the first two metal church albums are timeless classics, metal church never got t5he crit they desereved but they were equally as good as any of the bands that got more credit. i would put david wayne's vocals up against anybody's as far as metal goes. he had such a distinctive voice and was the biggest part of what made metal church one of the more unique bands out there at the time. he will truly be missed, r.i.p. brother.

I have loved Metal Church since they first came out and David surely put them over the top with such powerful vocals, who can forget that scream on "Burial at Sea" I was unaware of his accident and just found out about his death. I would have loved to see a Metal Church reunion as I never had the chance to see them live. He will surely be missed but never forgotten and I'm sure I'll be pulling out "The Dark" tonite to pay tribute. Rest in Peace Brother and say hi to Dimebag for me.
Just heard this sad news.... The first Metal Church album is one of the few , which have made a deep impact at me at the time of release and still does after 20 years. After Chuck and Paul Baloff the metal community has lost yet another of the great frontmen from the 80's.
I will cherish the memories of their gig on the Aardschok festival in 1987 with Metallica, Anthrax, Laaz Rockit and Celtic Frost and of course by playing the unforgettable music David will live on.
RIP bro, and strength to all family, friends and loved ones.
