Machine Head's Rob Flynn Apologizes To Slayer's Kerry King For His Role In Ongoing 'Feud'

MACHINE HEAD frontman Robert Flynn has posted the following message in the band's official forum:
"Been listening to SLAYER's 'Seasons in the Abyss' a lot lately. [I] don't really know why I went back to it... it's kinda hard to listen to in some ways... but, Jesus?! That record is just amazing. Absolutely fucking classic from start to finish. 'Seasons in the Abyss' is just about the ultimate metal album. Riffs, melodies, structures, energy... FUCK! What an accomplishment!
"After that began, I ended up digging through a bunch of stuff in my garage that I had to move, and I stumbled upon a shitload of memorabilia from those first two tours they [SLAYER] took us on. Flyers, posters, laminates, pictures... and it kinda bummed me out.
"Actually, it really bummed me out.
"I know I’m not supposed to say things like that, 'cause, you know... people think you're 'weak' when you say shit like that. But, despite things, I try not to let it affect my enjoyment of the music they create, since that band has been — and always will be — such a huge part of my life.
"From growing up as a teenager playing their songs at backyard kegger parties in Fremont... to watching them give the best live performance I have ever witnessed at the Henry J. Kaiser Center in Oakland... to having seen SLAYER live more times than any other band (before we toured together)... to them giving us the opportunity to tour with them for 5 ½ months, on 5 different continents... SLAYER has helped this band more than any other band out there, period. Kerry King, in particular, played a pivotal role in making that happen. It is something I will forever be grateful for, even if we never are friends again.
"So with that said, I am issuing an apology to Kerry for the role I've played in our ongoing 'feud.' To be honest, I can't even remember why it started. With every barb we trade, I feel like I'm losing a part of my youth, and with it, a part of who I used to be, before MACHINE HEAD came into existence.
"It's one of the strange ironies of the music business... that it would turn one of your idols, into one of your enemies.
"It really is a shame... sometimes the 'business' side of the music business has a tendency to suck the enjoyment out of the very thing you become a part of the music business for: music.
"Fuck that, man.
"I refuse to trade my humanity for a popularity contest."

Think about what it would be like to publicly fight with someone who was both a hero and later a friend and tourmate.....More power to him for trying to make ammends....
Saying "I'm f***ing sorry" takes a bigger man than some childish coward who just stamps his feet and says "i hate you, i hate you, i hate you." Plus there are aspects of this issue we as fans arent even aware of.....how could we be?....To that end, I think both Slayer and Machineead are great forces in metal and have been for quite awhile....For them to be at eachothers throats rather than a genius pair of tourmates is f***ing retarded.

i think it started when kerry said that though he loved burn my eyes a lot, he didnt give a damn about the following albums. robb said he was tired of kerry badmouthing MH and called him a jerk and stuff. then i remember kerry saying in kerrang something like "his time will come" about robb. anyway its a shame wot happend, dont think theyll be touring again together. maybe robb overreacted, kerry never called him names. or maybe i dont know the whole story
It does take a big man to apoligize and the fact that Robb didnt back down from a man like Kerry King takes a lot of balls. I have met Robb twice and he is for real. He doesnt hide behind a rock star image or make himself out to be a baddass. And to all you people that call a man a p***y cause he apoligizes for something. You are nothing but a bunch of fake people who think they have to be a hardass to be metal fan and put down anything that doesnt have to do with Hatred and Violence. Point made. Stay strong f***ers

Rock and metal feuds are a rare thing these days, well...except in hardcore,
But it was all the rage in 80's rock and metal bands. Those were constructive times no?. Now hip hops been handed the torch for 'beefs' and so forth....
But regardless of the musical genre, going toe to toe with fellow artists is just going to drive a wedge between fans, which I think is thoughtless and absurd. It takes alot to swallow ones pride and say "Yep, I was wrong, opps....forgive me?" or even for the 2 parties involved to meet eachother half way.
Now it's up to Kerry to drop his guard and possibly apologize for the attacks he dealt and except Flynns words....we'll see...that last bit sounds like soap opera to be continued drama sh**...hehe...anyway, thats my lengthy rant and i'm sticking to it.
kerry king, the king of pointless, meaningless solos. Sure, just put some crammed in notes, none of which GO together, and top it off with that damned dive-bomb whammy ending. hey, look at that! i just figured out his formula! now i can go smack 'ole robby in the head.as of now, both bands SUCK.

Well said, madcat. Slayer is highly overrated and Kerry's guitar-playing isn't as godly as everyone makes it out to be. As a matter of fact, the band WASN'T always a thrash-metal band. They were originally called Dragon Slayer and played NWOBHM/Power Metal-style stuff (Priest, Maiden, etc.) They didn't actually "decide" to play thrash until they attended a Metallica show in '82, yet they always preach about how "fake" Metallica are. f***in' p***y RIPOFFS!!!

Pariah, You can't really say anything about Slayer changing their style a little, (over 20 yrs ago), when about 10 yrs ago Metallica changed their style too, and it wasn't for the better. Load and ReLoad weren't too bad, I'm sorry but St. Anger is terrible, it's just watered down. You do have some good points

I am a big fan of SLAYER, have been since the day I started to lisyen to them (back in the 80's), this whole Rob Flynn-Kerry King bit is just a 'fight' between two musicians, inwhich only Flynn and King "know exactly what was said and done", us fans, correct me if I'm wrong don't know the "FACTS"most of the time, fans like to stir up a bunch of crap, people read magazines and watch interviews, big deal,...nobody gives a sh** about these 'feuds' between musicians, we all like who we like as stars,...you know, all this bullsh** that's on the web is becoming pretty lame (Flynn and King hear about this kind of stuff all the time and they've probably laughed together while the bullsh** continues)
I know that this has nothing to do with the "Flynn-King feud", but Ikeep on hearing about these 'metal gods', this band is a 'GOD', that band is a 'GOD', the only bands that can truly be called 'GODS' are JUDAS PRIEST and Ozzy Osbourne, don't forget JUDSAS PRIEST were the ones who started heavymetal in 1973, Ozzy Osbourne was with BLACK SABBATH (The foundation of ALL hard rock ), SLAYER who began in 1983 where the first American speed/thrash metal band, then came Metallica in ' 83 with "Kill 'Em All" (it was Cliff Burton who recorded that album wit h Metallica, not Dave Mustain, Metallica wasn't even heard of when Mustaine was in Metallica), people only recognized Metallica after Metallica toured with Ozzy Osbourne in ' 85 "Master Of Puppets-Damage,Inc " tour, only then did Metallica became noticable by more fans. Metallica became METALLICA in ' 81 it was James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Dave Mustain and Ron McGuvney, thought I'd let you know this, incase those of you who didn't or weren't too sure.

You know, "Skinheadmcgee" has a valid point, nowadays the cd's that are selling for $10.00 are usually VERY old disks, whether the disks are compilation or not, these disks sell at a low price because for 1, the disks are very old, and 2, there might be 1-3 out of 8 songs on these disks that are good, the rest is sh**. If you were to collect those vinyl albums (before tapes became popular back then) for like 10-15 yrs, then those vinyl albums would be worth something, and I'm not talking about "chumpchange either).
Cd's have been out for I don't know how long, I wonder how much longer these cd's will be on the market before these manufacturing industries or whom ever come up with something better, this whole thing with compact disks (MUST BE CAREFUL ON HOW YOU HANDLE CD'S, YOU DON'T WANT TO SCRATCH A CD)

SLAYER, how can a metalhead become tired of SLAYER, you can't, impossible, you can become tired of listening to some other groups, but not SLAYER, SLAYER is the sh**, whenever I listen to SLAYER I feel to drink, BIGTIME, my hat's off to Kerry King, Tom Araya, Jeff Hanneman, Dave Lombardo/Paul Bostaph (KILLER f***IN' RIFFS)
Rock n' Roll, hard rock, heavymetal,...I haven't seen or heard of any group within these genres of music pull-off anything lame, ok, maybe one thing, some groups still do covers (MAN, write and play your own materials) I don't recall JUDAS PRIEST, BLACK SABBATH/OZZY OSBOURNE doing covers, even SLAYER,...SLAYER may have done covers but not a whole lot. JUDAS PRIEST, BLACK SABBATH/OZZY OSBOURNE and SLAYER all have two things in common,...1. they stick to their music and no bullsh** in between (stopping between songs to talk for 5 minutes at a time to do these rediculous introductions), 'cause they know that their fans didn't give ash** and still don't give a damn for that and that's part of why these bands were successful. I remember when METALLICA were in San Diego, Cal ' 92 (live sh** bing & purge) J. Hetfield took a break between songs to talk about what they were about to do (he figured, "these people don't really give a sh** what I have to say, they didn't pay good money to come see us talking about what we're about to do during the show, the fans want MUSIC), so he said "let's get on with the f#$% show eh !?! people like myself find that when a group does this during a performance, is BORING!!! but then again, it's done for a reason, groups know that their fans don't want a BORING SHOW, the group(s) have time to kill,...(a promoter allows these goups to perform and gives 3-4 hours, well if a group were to be on their own, no "opening act(s)" the n that group has full advantage of the time they have, even though to perform and the intermissions together only take up 3 and a half hours, the other half hour is used for intermissions and waiting time (introductions, etc). Keep this in mind for the next time you go see a show.

Who the hell is Rob Flynn any way? All you Machine head fans are a bunch of pu$%ys, Slayer Slayer and a few other select bands built metal period. Kerry King is a god and the Slayer legacy will long out do machine head. And everyone who is old school metal knows what I mean. Any one of these newbe bands that want to talk sh%t about a for-father of metal can kiss my a$$. Slob Flynn should worship the ground KING walks on, cause if it wern't for him he wouldn't have a job!
