It's truly the end of an era: one of the bands that arguably kicked off heavy metal - Black Sabbath - has now come to an end nearly 50 years later.

The reactivated Black Sabbath, sadly minus Bill Ward, performed the last show of "The End" tour in Birmingham.

It was a fitting end, with a sold-out arena filled with an estimated 16,000 fans. Footage of that farewell show recently uploaded to YouTube can be seen below.

Did you catch any of the final Black Sabbath shows? Let us know your favorite Ozzy and Sabbath memories below!

Tony Iommi also issued this message: "Thanks to everyone who came out to our final show of the tour in Birmingham Saturday night. It was such a great time that we will never forget!"

I caught Black Sabbath's show in San Antonio back in November. This was the first time (and last) for me to catch Iommi play and hear in person the awesome sounds from the left handed riff master. It was a great show. I only wish they could have played a song or two from Sabotage (Hole in the Sky or especially Symptom of the Universe, but Megalomania is my favorite from that record.) Geezer was in the zone for the whole set. Ozzy was is good form. Maybe not great as his voice cracked on the higher notes, but the man is 68 and he gave it his all. Tommy Clufetus was also surprisingly good, focusing more on emulated Bill Ward's heavy hitting side instead of the finesse that some of the original songs had. It was a great show and brought me a little piece of closure to a great band the will leave a deep musical legacy.

Replace the black in the black sabbath name and get all kinds of bands, rainbow sabbath would be the ultimate.
