Tom Araya Talks About Dimebag's Murder
Band Photo: Slayer (?)
Slayer mainman Tom Araya recently spoke with Brian Davis from KNAC.com about "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott's murder last month, the upcoming Slayer album, touring, and several other topics. In the interview, Davis mentions Dimebag's murder and Araya responds with "Yeah, that’s FUCKED! Why?? Why? I mean, it… it was pretty brutal to walk up to someone and just point blank… and not just once but several times. It’s like, “What the fuck was that about?!? What the fuck’s your problem?!? .... Yeah, how do you get there? What happened? What happened in that one little span of time to make you do what you did?”
Several excepts from the interview:
KNAC.COM: There are a lot of crazy things in this world.
Araya: Yeah. I can’t say that it’s… like I would consider this area on the bus safe, or the backstage area safe, but not as safe as we thought.
KNAC.COM: It’ll make you rethink that.
Araya: Oh hell yeah, it makes you rethink a LOT. It makes me rethink some kid standing there wanting an autograph… now its like, “Uh…”
KNAC.COM: Somehow people twist it and just fuck it up for everybody.
Araya: That shit [with Dime] the other night was just… it’s just fucked up. That’s one thing that goes through your mind -- it’s like, “Fuck, how safe are we?”
KNAC.COM: It could’ve been you… it could’ve been anybody.
Araya: Yeah, it could have been anybody. I mean that’s never… that’s never happened. Nobody’s ever been shot on stage.

My friend was murdered earlier this week while he was working. And yeah its crossed my mind quite a bit. Like what if I was at work and some random person killed me for no reason. He was just at work and some guy came in and shot him. No robbery or anything, just shot him. Very similar to Dimebag. So I understand how things have changed for bands out there. Its crossed their mind like its crossed my mind this week. The fear will subside over time though.

Nothing safe...ever. Murderers, rapists, disease, war...the list goes on and on.
There's no doubt what happened to DIME is f***ed up, but what's worse is
when sh** like this happens, a lot people go overboard with fear.
Why should anything change? We all know this is a terrible, but isolated incident.
We are never safe, but we shouldn't let ourselves become consumed with the fear
of these sorts of things happening. Fear is all we have to be afraid of.
Carpe Diem!
