SAMAEL guitarist/vocalist Vorph recently spoke to Denmark's Antenna webzine about the group's latest CD, "Reign of Light", and their split with longtime label Century Media Records, among other topics. An excerpt from the interview follows:

Antenna: The most urgent question for me tonight must presumably be the your split with Century Media in favour of the comparatively smaller label Regain Records? Do explain you motives for such a radical change...

Vorph: "We finished the contract. We signed with the label in '92, and now we wanted more control with what we're doing, although they wanted to sign us again. We made our own imprint just to keep control with our own productions. At the moment, the imprint is merely regarding our own productions, and we're not planning to sign other bands right now, but maybe later we well. Who knows?"

Antenna: Isn't Century Media the perfect label for your type of music?

Vorph: "I don't think that was the situation anymore. We've had some problem with them in the past, and although our relationship now is alright, we don't want to return. We wanted to start on a fresh. Working with Regain at the moment is really easier than anything we've tried before. We've come to the right person. Our contract with Regain is merely for one record, so time will tell what happens."

Antenna: How did you get in contact with Regain?

Vorph: "We let the labels know that our contract with Century Media was over, and that's how we got in touch with any interested label."

Antenna: If you had signed with Regain two years ago, I'd probably accuse you of being completely mad, but now it makes more sense, since the Swedish label has signed several acts of a considerable size, such as OVERKILL and DANZIG.

Vorph: "The label is on the rise, that's true. There's a good vibe at the moment. I like MARDUK a lot, but otherwise I'm not really familiar with other bands signed to the company."
