Anselmo Devastated, Plans To Disappear

Band Photo: Damageplan (?)

Phil Anselmo planned to attend Dimebag Darrell's public memorial service Tuesday night in Arlington, Texas, but was told that Darrell's family didn't want him to attend. "I never got a chance to say goodbye in the right way and it kills me," he said. "I wish to God I could've gone to his funeral, but I have to respect his family's wishes, and they do not want me there. I believe I belong there, but I understand completely, I'm so sorry."

Not only did Darrell's death dash the hopes of a Pantera reunion, Anselmo said the incident has made him question his own career as a musician. "This has changed the entire world, and this is the last you'll be seeing of me for a long time," he said. "I hope you're happy, heavy metal music magazines, media, I hope you're happy. I'm done."

that is a good thing and a bad thing all at the same time. i feel bad for him he has to feel like complete sh** about what he's said and done in his life to dime and vinnie and it sucks because they were going to reunite it was only a matter of time, and according to the one news post we posted earlier it seemed like they already started talking, maybe they should've posted that they were in talks to reunite again before that night and this could've probably all been avoided. either way it's a sad loss and Dime's legend will never be forgotten, but hey at least Phil realizes he was a d*** towards them finally and i hated SJR anyway so i'm glad he'll go away, maybe he'll get a good band going again when he takes enough time off, nothing can live up to Pantera but i know he's capable of more then SJR is/was

Well I was wondering when and what Phil would say...some of it was what I expected but blaming magazines and the media in your first statement about Dimebag's death a week ago? Yeah that doesnt need to be discussed right now. Its about Dimebag.

What is up with all you people that don't give Superjoint any credit? They totally dominate. I think you are all just too hung up on the end of Pantera and won't give anything else a chance. This is what that f***er who shot Dime thought and look how well that all turned out. If really don't like anything Phil has done after Pantera, I really got to wonder if you even gave it a chance. Quit hating Phil because Pantera is OVER. All good things come to an end so get over it.

Look both Damageplan and SJR were not going to live up to Pantera. The first SJR album was cool and so was Damageplan's. Both had different vibes. SJR got alot of s**t because Phil talked a big game while talking s**t on Dime and Vinny and COULD NOT back it up. The fact is SJR put NO effort in their latest album and played 30 min of nonsense at their shows filled with bulls**t rants from PHIL. That is why Phil is getting no love at the moment--all he's been is a d**k up to this point.

There isn't that much Eibon to listen to... just the samples on moonfog.com. Down kicks ass, though. Especially NOLA, I play at least a song off of that album most days, and I've had the album for about 6-7 years. Now that is lastability! If that's even a word. I'm pretty sure it's not....

SJR are cool though, not as good as the other bands, but still well worth checking out.

i reckon anselmo wasn't fast enough in coming out and expressing his true feelings. instead he chose to keep a low profile and appeared like an arrogant prick.
f*** him, there's no way i'm feeling sorry for that drug f***ed piece of sh** - he had a choice to keep his mouth shut or talk sh**.
after all the sh** talking he's done about dime and vinnie, I can't believe he still has the nerve to publically say he belongs at dimes funeral with his family there
and that's right - he should be done, its about time he disappeared. he can go and OD somewhere now, 'cos he's done nothing to make pantera fans feel better before or after the tragedy.

I gotta admit I fell for him(assuming his statement is sincere) , but he brought this on himself . If it werent for vinnie and dime we probably would not know about phil . So to trash either one of those guy's was craz . If you couldn't work out your differences fine it happens , but he bit the hand that fed him . That's not cool by any standard . personally I was put off by SJR when they came out because of the title and the cover . So obviously that was a sighn of a bigger problem believe it or not pantera has black native american and hispanic fans , not many but they exist if Phil cares that kind of crap gotta stop . I would suggest that #1 Do not give up and disapear that's for loser's #2 call Dave mustaine call Alice Cooper call Nicky , Tommy call anybody that has had serious drug and alcohol issues find out how they dealt with their inner demons and FOOTBALL TACKLE YOUR'S !!!!!!! Inspite of everything you've still got fans that give a f*** . Time for you to live up to your legend . If you can't do that then the Abbots are right and you deserve it !!!!!

Wow. I cannot beleive there are so many people on this post that have never talked sh** about anyone in their entire life. Nobody in here has ever had a grudge or disagreement with somebody they cared for. No one in here has ever said anything horrible to their parents or family. What a good group of people in here. Bull f***ing sh**! Everyone in here has done the same f***ing thing many times in their life. The ONLY difference is Dime died before things got patched up with Phil....so stop this judgemental BS! Phil deserved to be at his funeral, period. Phil was part of Pantera, the KINGS of metal. If Phil didn't deserve to be at the public service, nobody does (besides Abbotts). And he has every freaking right to comment on the press as they morphed what started as creative differences into heated personal grudges. They fueled the fire. I KNEW Pantera would reunite because I believed in Pantera, only some phsyco f***nut took our dear brother Dime from us before the Cowboys could ride again. May that nutcase burn in hell.( Makes sense....you're mad Pantera broke up, so you kill the co-FOUNDER? Real brilliant.)

And to Phil....do what you need to do to get your head straight brother. I'm with you. Anybody talking sh** was never on the ride, so f*** em. We've all said bad things to those we care for....you just didn't expect this sh**, and you SHOULDN'T have. Stay strong brother.

Rest in Peace Dime. You live on through your music forever.

Man I hope somebody is watching over Phil. If not he will be found with a needle in his arm and dead, or he might pull a Cobain. Phil did need to be at the funeral, he didn't desereve it but he should have been there. All though, Phil was right not to show up. If the Abbott family doesn't want him there, then he was right not to go and to honor the family's wishes. Phil was wrong to have kept on talking sh**, but his punishment is way too harsh. He is gonna have to spend the rest of his life no matter how long or short knowing that the man that was as close as family to him is dead and gone and he will have never had the opportunity to let Dime know just how he really feels, nobody deserves that. Phil has got to be sick with himself. I hate Phil just as much as the next guy but I feel bad for the guy, having lost family and never having the chance to clear the air is a wretched feeling. I hope he pulls through, Vinnie will eventually forgive and hopefully they can all get together and pay musical tribute together the way that they should.

Hopefully this tragic event will bring some good to the Metal World in the end and some people/bands will wake up and realize just how valuable life can be and squash old grudges or conflicts and make some more new music from the ashes of what used to be. I know that with all my music you would get dizy trying to backtrack and tie together all the bands with members that left for some reason, probably stupid in retrospect and formed another band that put out more cd's and the band split again to form 2 more bands and on and on it goes ---- If only a few would rejoine forces it would be great for metal and their self being as well

Anyone remember when Phil claimed to have taught Dime how to play guitar? He was and is really f***ed up, but we should encourage him to get his sh** together, not kick him while he's down. Oh and I love Dime, he was one of my biggest influences and the sickest metal guitarist ever, but........

Malmsteen had a speed and technique edge over him. Unfortunately Malmsteen is a better axe man and almost untouchable. Just his music writing ability blows and there are only a very few elite guitarists that are in Dime's company there. Besides, I think Petrucci has exceeded everybody now.

I have to say that while I do feel bad for Phil I dont think it was right for him to say the kind of sh** he was saying in the weeks befor Dime's death. He probably does feel horrible about it but he wouldn't feel any remorse if dime were still alive. And as for all you f***s trying to justify Phils drug problems you should all know that their is no excuse for doing the kinds of sh** he was doing. Alot of people die from that sh** and i have seen it take a toll on peoples work. I'm glad Dime was man enough to try and put a stop to it rather than just sit back and watch phil ruin himself.
None the less it is horrible that Phil may stop making music. I dont think that that is what Dime would have wanted and I do feel partially responsible seeing how it is the gossip of their former fans that got this sh** started in the first place.

I have dealt with my substance abuse issues. Never f***ed with heroin but never the less, I don't think its a choice for Phil anymore. People who get truely addicted to heroin can't even function in society at a normal level without juice. I will never justify his using but I don't think he has much control anymore. We could all be very wrong about what Phil meant about going away for along time. It's far fetched but he just might be disappearing so he can get cleaned up and get his sh** together. Thats what I'm hoping for anyways. I think thats when Vinnie and Rex should step in and give him a hand. They may never make music together again but they have to make up.

Ok here's my problem...
First of all, Dimebag's death was a a horrible tragedy that should have never happened. He was a fantastic guitar player. But come on people! Phil, Vinnie, Rex, & Dime are only human beings. They aren't perfect. I have seen a lot of posts on here that berate Phil because of whatever he has said in the past, and because of his alleged drug problems. I'd like to see one motherf***er on this site who hasn't talked sh** when they're angry, or dealt with the problems of life. We've got to respect that everyone is just trying to f***ing LIVE. Just getting through this life and grabbing onto any happiness is hard enough. I don't think any Pantera band member's lives will be the same, and certainly not the Abbott family's. This senseless tragedy has just reminded me that people talk a lot of crap and throw a lot of bullsh** around, and now some mental case fan took out his aggression innocent people. This world is getting harder and harder to live in. We have to stick together, not tear eachother apart.
