Surviving GWAR members Mike Derks (Balsac) and Brad Roberts (Jizmak) guested on this week’s episode of the Metal Sucks podcast to talk about the future of GWAR, their long and storied history with Dave Brockie, and their perspectives on both Brockie's addictions and untimely death earlier this year.

In the 40-minute interview, the GWAR guitarist and drummer discuss how there will be multiple new GWAR characters gracing the stage starting this Fall. Derks and Roberts also discuss this weekend's Gwar-B-Q, the upcoming opening of the Gwar Bar in Richmond, Virginia, and their upcoming touring plans. According to the band: "We take one dumb idea and couple it on another stupid idea and it becomes genius."

All of this and more of this week’s episode can be streamed below or at Metal Sucks here.

Nice try, surviving members of the band formerly known as GWAR.

Dave just rolled over in his grave.

"Strapping Young Lad" dude? Seriously?

Just... just don't. You're embarrassing yourselves guys. Lay GWAR to rest. Do the right thing. Come up with another project with another name.

I mean, come on, we all saw the plug for GWAR hot sauce only hours after Dave was gone... like nothing had happened. It's clear there are a few members who could care less about any type of legacy and are just out to ride the cash cow to death.

I can already see where this whole thing is headed...

Straight down the same toilet that McTallica went down.

Whereas gwar never sided with the labels to needlessly pursue people over filesharing?

Whereas gwar has always put on a superior stageshow?

Whereas gwar fans KNOW they won't get sh** all over (metaphorically speaking, I've been to several shows) so someone can get a bigger paycheck?

No, gwar deserves at least a chance to show that they can continue on just as strong as ever.

gwar needs to address their line up by finally introducing a black character on stage and into the band.
the lack of minorities in this band the past 30 years demonstrates a severe narrow mindedness not only with the history of this group but metal in general, it would show signs of progression in relations with other minority communities if gwar was to add a black, hispanic or asian person of decent, it would also eliminate the rumor or cloud that hangs over this band that dave brockie himself was a bigot, I personally have not found any validity to those rumors but they do exist, to preserve daves and gwars integrity it would be wise that in the future that gwar add a minority character and set a precedence to other bands of the metal community.

#6 is obviously a troll. GWAR, as a unit, is comprised of aliens from the Scumdog Planet. Being a different species, the color of human skin means NOTHING to them, except maybe the difference between types of meat for dinner, etc. To group our alien overlords in with the vile trash that is mankind is blasphemous. This is common knowledge, my dear meatbag comrade.

Come on, "stony jackson as phones", pull yourself together, man!

I can't find a link to the story but Brockie gave an interview about 3 years ago stating quite clearly that he wanted GWAR to eventually retire every original member (when their weak, earthly bodies failed them) and replace them with new blood and still be an active unit 100 years from now.

He was proud of GWAR and his fans were his life. I can't say for sure but I suspect that this is what he wants.

I spoke with Dave Brockie a few times, having been in a band that played with him in a few incarnations. He told me that one of his favorite things about GWAR was that after they were dead, there would always be fans willing to strap on a suit and fill their clawed feet. You should've seen his face when he was talking about it. Very moving. He loved GWAR, and it was his entire life. This is right, and this is what he wanted.

I think it's safe to say that Brockie would approve of his being replaced with a new character.

I know he'd be alright with Gwar going on. But it feels so weird without him. Lead singers are hard to replace, especially Dave. Like, I know Beefcake was replaced by different dudes before. But it'd be harder with Oderus. He was a legend and only Dave could've that. I don't know if I'll listen to the next Gwar album, but I won't hate on them if they wanna keep going.
