Inez to Replace Newstead?

According to Encyclopedia Metallica, UK metal mag Kerrang! reports that Alice In Chains bassist Mike Inez is on his way to joining Metallica. The magazine claims that Inez is currently in a Los Angeles studio auditioning for the job. Inez, 35, joined Alice in Chains in 1993 replacing original bass player Mike Starr. Before that, he played in Ozzy Osbourne's band after beating out 50 other bass players at an open audition.

While Alice in Chains are on "open hiatus" drummer Sean Kinney and Inez have been working with ex-Queensr├┐che guitarist Chris DeGarmo on demos for a potential new project.
