Legendary thrash act Slayer has offered up the new track "Implode," the first new studio track since "World Painted Blood" was released in 2009, as a free download. "Implode" is also the first track released since the loss of Jeff Hanneman back in May 2013.

The track was performed at the Revolver Golden Gods Awards held at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles, when Slayer surprised the capacity crowd with an unannounced performance, kicking off the show with a three-song set. The song was recorded earlier this month at Henson Studios in Los Angeles and produced by Terry Date and co-produced by Greg Fidelman and is offered as a "thank you" to the band’s fans for their continued support.

Kerry King commented: "Hey, Mutherfuckers - You have been waiting for us, now we are delivering for you. We’ve got a brand new song - “Implode” - it’s Slayer's first new song since “World Painted Blood” was released back in 2009 - and we want you guys to hear it, so we’re giving it away for free. All you have to do is go slayer.net/implode, enter your email address and we’ll send you the download link. We’re writing and recording more new music, so keep coming back here and we’ll tell you how it’s going. And hey, we’re hitting the road next month with Suicidal Tendencies and Exodus - WE WANT TO FUCKING SEE YOU THERE!" (see tour dates here).

The track is available at this location. It requires an email address for the download link.

I like the opening a lot and overall it's a good song. Can't wait for more...even if it's not as good without Jeff.

I've been seeing tons of hate flying around for this song. Personally, I don't understand it all. Sure, Dave and Jeff (RIP) are gone. However, I think quite a few people had a verdict in their mind before they ever gave the song a chance.

Personally, I dig the song. Different sections gave me some cool flashbacks to both Divine Intervention and Christ Illusion. I'm with Deathbringer--can't wait to hear the rest, lineup be damned.

Its all part of the tradition of pre-judgment before hearing the full album. Personally, I thought the song reminded me of some of the mid-paced stuff on Seasons. I am quite curious to hear the rest.

I really wanted to like it but I don’t.
It has nothing to do with Dave or Jeff not being there either.
Nothing Slayer has done since GHUA has done anything for me.
This will probably be the first Slayer album I haven’t bought day of release since SOH.
I’ll wait for youtube first.
Christ Illusion and WPB…I can count on one hand how many times I’ve bothered listening to either album.
It’s not a bad song but it’s a variation of the same thing they’ve been doing since CI.

I don't mind it....something about it though, missing the Hanneman touch. It's very Slayer though!
