First Two Albums "Iron Maiden" And "Killers" To Be Re-Recorded By Iron Maiden Along With Brand New Album "Powerslave II"
Iron Maiden came out of studio hibernation to announce that the band will finally re-record the first two albums "Iron Maiden" (1980) and "Killers" (1981) with Bruce Dickinson on vocals, citing "fan demand" as the reason. The announcement comes as the band is set to unleash its follow up to the 2010 album "The Final Frontier" which will be entitled "Powerslave II."
In an interview with Smile, the premiere in flight magazine of Filipino airline Cebu Pacific, Dickinson stated (translated via Bing): "We have been really really busy behind the scenes, keeping this enormous project a secret. When we met to discuss whether the band wanted to do a new studio album as a unit, Steve suggested we try an idea we had floating around for a long while now - bring back the glory of 'Powerslave.' At the time, it was just a musical direction, but the more we wrote it appeared that the time was right to bring back Egypt as a central theme for the cover. The album itself is a the natural continuation of the style of that release. Nikko suggested we just call it 'Powerslave II' since it felt like that old magic was back. We asked Derrick [Riggs] for some cover ideas and he suggested we take the 'Final Frontier' idea - space - and combine it with the Egyptian theme. The result was sort of like the metal album for 'Stargate.'"
The track titles and release date for "Powerslave II" have not yet been announced, but the album cover can be seen below.
Bassist Steve Harris commented on re-recording the two classic first albums: "Fans have been telling us for years that they wanted to hear what it would have been like if Bruce sang on the first two albums. We kicked the tires on this recently and figured, if Di'Anno can tour for thirty years making money playing those songs live and re-recording them...we can just do the 'Manowar' thing and make 2014-2015 a really special time for the fans with three albums to look forward to. Really, we did this for the fans."
The third guitarist added: "The new album is going to slay everyone. I am so excited to be part of this. Paul would be proud!"
