The Rockstar Ramblings: Winger Returns

Winger's first new album in five years, 'Better Days Comin', is slated for release in April and the album's first video for the single "Rat Race" is now upon us.

Winger is Kip Winger on vocals/bass, Reb Beach on guitar, John Roth on guitar and Rod Morgenstein on drums. The album is available in a standard and deluxe configuration. The deluxe edition includes the bonus track and a lock of Kip’s chest hair. (Note: Not true about the bonus track.) Checking out the video, hey, this isn’t your eighties Winger, it’s a rat race man! Favorite part is when Kip sings the word “time” and an image of a clock appears. Kip’s still got it…

So that was fun, but nothing beats old school Winger, here’s a throwback video for “Seventeen.” The video begins with laughing, spinning with guitars and sweaty man chests in abundance. The hair is very big and bounces as Kip nods his head while singing the lyrics. This may have been the first video ever to use a guitar as a prop first, instrument second. Great job Kip. By the way, there is a girl in the video. She lurks in the dark and at one point is drenched with water. Note: She is not as cute as Kip. Whenever Kip crashes into a guitar player during this song it looks like a commercial for shampoo and conditioner. The “guitar” solo/jam at 2:33 pretty much says it all. There is no way the band doesn’t shower together after this video. By 2:45, the part of shirt Kip was wearing is completely gone. I enjoy a positive message, but this video is way too happy for me…
