Rob Zombie is joining forces with American Psycho author Bret Easton Ellis and Alcon Television to develop a project with Fox about the infamous Manson Family murders.

Zombie, who has long held a fascination with the murders - which included the killing of actress Sharon Tate - told Variety Magazine:

“I have been obsessed with this insane story since I was a kid, so obviously I jumped at the chance to be involved in this incredible project. After speaking with Bret, I immediately realized that we shared the same vision for this epic madness.”

At present the production is seen as a limited series but is still in early development with Fox. Further details have been made available at Variety.com here.

I dare say this is right up his alley.
Every single character from every single movie he makes looks like a Manson family member.
From the trashy women to the smelly guys that look like they haven’t bathed in a month.
That said, the original Helter Skelter movie will never be outdone.
Zombie’s will be the predictable gore fest.
I don’t even want to see the murder of Sharon Tate.
Sorry but pregnant women being repeatedly stabbed really isn’t my thing.
There’s gore, there’s unrealism.
There there’s just plain bad taste, which seems to be Zombie’s filmmaking calling card.
I’m afraid Lord’s of Salem permanently put me off his movies for good…….scratch that, Halloween 2 did that and LOS solidified my feelings that he simply isn’t a gifted filmmaker.
He’s like Lucas in many ways.
He has a great eye for imagery, sound, etc…but when it comes to a coherent script?
Let someone else write it.

Oops…I stand corrected.
I suppose it could be decent but at this point..why?
Helter Skelter’s a classic…kind of like Halloween was…so…why???
What could they possibly bring to this that is new or even on par with the original?
It’s a true story so it’s not like he can put any kind of spin on it like he did by turning the Myer’s family into trailer trash.

Doesn't say that either post 7 it's a collaboration, but I guess one good hand job deserves another.
I'm looking forward to it, right up robs's alley if you ask me, and im sure he'll inject great dialogue although most likely it'll be on television.

Doesn't say "what" either?
Yeah, I get it.......collaboration.
A story that's been told how many times and done right the first time around.
My opinion that this is a waste of time like 90% of remakes and that Zombie an inadequate director stands.

Well, nowhere does it say he's directing but wth is he going to do then?
Stand there and watch?
He can't do music it doesn't fit with the time period.
And it's on Fox...(?)
I'll watch it if they convince Glen Beck to dress up like Sharon Tate.

If I recall correctly, Beck no longer works for Fox. :P

I agree, Brian - I don't care for Rob's filmmaking at all. He overuses flashy imagery, gratuitous violence, and freshman-film-student style editing to conceal a real dearth of substance.

I couldn't even finish the "first" (Zombie's) Halloween. Watching Myers' white-trash backstory made him LESS enigmatic, LESS mysterious, LESS terrifying, all while unnecessarily throwing around the word "fvck" a zillion times and leaving nothing to the imagination in depicting tasteless brutality. Vomit.

the devils rejects had its moments, but the rest of what I've bothered watching (not necessarily finishing) has been pretty much crap...kinda like the only record he made I thought was worth a fvck was La Sexorcisto

Actually still dig that thing quite well...its good for skiing, bombing mtn bike lines, and blazing trail in the ol 'dozer...yep, pretty good sh!t for kinda stuff :)

So there.

Have to agree with Brian on ole' Zombies directing style. Comparing him to lucas was pretty spot on. After LoS I've come to the conclusion that Zombie is trashy and tasteless. He's like a 16 year old who is fascinated with boobies and blood. He's fascinated with things like witchcraft and the occult tho I doubt he truly knows anything about them.

This could be a good collaboration, American Psycho was an awesome movie and an even better book. As long as the author gets to embellish on his vision, Zombie wont be able to ruin it. Unfortunately, I know that his wife will play a character(if not several). You can only see the same woman in a different role(that is always similar) so many times, before it becomes boring. Hopefully they are able to somehow reinvent the Manson family, couldn't be any worse than the Hannibal TV show.
