I Klatus' John Conta Involved In Murder-Suicide
John Conta Jr., known as Phi from the Chicago doom trio I Klatus, was involved in an apparent murder-suicide last Wednesday morning. Authorities say Conta shot his parents John Sr. and Janice, his five year old nephew Matthew Meier who was celebrating his birthday, and then turned the gun on himself in the garage after setting the house on fire with gasoline.
"We did learn that he had spent some time in Russia as a potato farmer, and he came back after a year in Russia and the family felt that he had changed somewhat," said Oak Lawn Police Division Chief Michael Kaufmann. "His mental state was just different." Conta Jr. had allegedly not been taking his prescription medications.
Investigators discovered a gun safe in the home which contained several rifles they say Conta Sr. used for hunting. It was one of those guns that investigators said the son used to murder his family. Crews on Thursday demolished the unsafe rubble of what was left of the home. Read the full article over at the Chicago Tribune.
