Narnia Comments On Westboro Baptist's Plans To Protest Dio's Funeral

Christian power metallers Narnia recently announced their intention to disband. Narnia Guitarist CJ Grimmark has now checked in with the following statement regarding the plans of Westboro Baptist to protest Ronnie James Dio's public memorial service:

"With the resent statements of the 'Westboro Baptist Church' regarding Ronnie James Dio in mind, I feel obliged to make the following statement. First, I sincerely hope it's all a prank by someone with a bad and hopefully rare sense of humor (such as someone wanting to bash the WBC), but if it's not - let me say: Statements by fanatics does NOT represent a majority - never ever. What was said about Ronnie after his recent passing away made me sick to my stomach. As a christian believer there are many things that was written and sung by RJD that I'm not behind at all. But do I want to judge him? No!

"Does God allow or encourage ANY human to judge him or any other human for that matter, or wish someone 'to hell'? NO, it's strictly against the teachings of Jesus! What would Jesus do?
Think about it before you answer. Remember, we are all sinners but we're equally loved by God, and he wants us ALL by his side. The door is open to anyone who wants to enter. Not by our perfection but by the grace of God.

"I've read some flaming reactions on for example blabbermouth.net and as much as I can understand the aggressive reactions I'd like to ask everyone; please do not presume that this is the type of view all Christians have, because it's simply not, and lets try to move on and forgive. Lets not make a general bashing of christian or religious people in general. In closing I would like to say to Ronnie: Since the first time I met You, I have prayed for You - and I still am. You will be missed and I hope we will meet again. Thanks for You great music and for the little time we had together. My best wishes to Wendy Dio and everyone else who was close to Ronnie. Over and out."

Right on. And I'm glad CJ made this statement; all of it. He is absolutely right.

I really hate the Westboro Baptist Church for actually protesting at the funeral of a Rock Legend. Dio is a creative artist who expressed intellectual poetry that demonstrated the battle between good and evil. It is pretty fitting that it is the Westborough baptist church protesting his funeral, because Dio dedicated his life to portraying people like that as hypocrites.

Dio is one of the great singers of all time and will be missed.

I am also a born-again Christian, like the members of Narnia, and a HUGE metal fan. The "Westboro Baptist Church" in no way represents TRUE Christianity and I abhor all the hatred they vomit. They obviously know NOTHING about the God they claim to follow. Although Dio had differing religious views that me, I highly respected him not only for his immense talent, but for the love and respect he gave to everyone he came in contact with. I'm thankful that I got to finally see him on the last Heaven & Hell tour. Much love and prayers to the Dio family and friends.

friends, one thing is to "respect" others and something else is to tell the truth. whoever dies WITHOUT Jesus is going to the dark and fiery pit of hell, be it RJD, Ozzy or whoever is next (not that I didn't enjoy Holy Diver, etc) what a great voice an talent but unfortunately that doesn't count for salvation from Hell and its demons. Besides, The Bible says we cannot praise human talent because, it wasn't acquired but GIVEN by a Supreme Being, so, how can I brag about me being a good singer if that talent was received for free?

Post 4 - Talent might be present in people since birth, but often it takes years of training to get it to a high level.

Your post showcases what is basically all your own opinion, so it won't be changed easily, as it follows the bible to a near tee.

But if a good man goes to "hell" while hate-preachers, alcoholics, slavers, and ones who stand idly by while their children be molested (dude gave up his daughters to keep an angel safe) all go to heaven just because they accept christ and god, then screw that, it's a horrible system.

Just because someone doesn't believe in any one of the mythical beings, will they be sent to all of their hells? Or would they be judged on the life they lived and their interactions with other people?

Fair enough, WBC doesn't represent the whole of Christianity, but they represent some of the more die-hard views.

My opinion on it is that all these protesters should just keep their nose out, if they turn up they should be stonewalled, or mocked by having pictures taken with them.

Worst case scenario is that they're gonna get busted up at a funeral :/

I've learned to think nothing of the WBC. The number of lawsuits in response to reactions to their inflammatory protests they've filed has taught me that they simply lay traps for recklessly passionate people to fall into.

I only wish the best for Dio, his family, and the WBC for that matter, that we may all be able to simply be peaceful with each other.

I really wish people would stop with the "Westboro Baptist Church do not represent every Christian" deal. Most rational people are aware of this. The people that are going to use this as something against Christianity are people who would have had a problem with it in the first place. It 'sborderline insulting to be told time and time again that WBC don't represent the Christian majority. It's like saying "not all Nazis represent white people." People with a bit of intelligence are going to know without being told that the WBC are nothing more than a radical sect.

post 5 - your reasoning is off. in the end - it is each of us who choose our destiny.

if, in your lifetime, you chose not to have anything to do with Christ and the God of the Bible - then - with all fairness - this is exactly what you are given in eternity.

if anyone chooses not to have any part of Christ and heaven during their lifetime - then their wishes will be granted afterwards in hell.

it's heaven or hell - you choose........it's as simple as that.

Ah, but who says it has to be Christ? What if I worshipped a god that rewarded things other than self abasement for no reason, and didn't need to be "selfish" for worship itself? Or just no god at all - thereby satisfying the christian god's commandment of having no other gods before him.

If I lived a life of good deeds but refused to prescribe to a the christian religion, for reasons due to the history of it, etc etc then do I deserve to go to hell?

I've asked that question to alot of Christians Irish and they always say yes from my experience. I can never understand how the concept of Hell has caught on to Christians as there is no Hell in Judaism. If there was no Hell for the people who didn't follow God before Christ, why would there suddenly be one when Jesus comes along, the man who supposedly taught that God was a loving and forgiving deity? Unless Chritianity was looking to (gasp) control people?! But that can't be the case, I mean religion would NEVER try to dictate people how to live their lives right?

The Catholic church developed Hell to scare people into doing what they want. Remember when all of this Christy stuff happened 2000 or so years ago most people could not read or write. They believed what the people in power told them. I find it amusing that Jesus (if he existed) was a Jew, and the people that worshiped him created this Hell as a scare tactic to keep the sheeple in line, but in the religion he was born into there is no Hell.

Love & Respect to the Family of RJD. To all of the fans and readers, please understand that the Westboro "Church" has NOTHING to do with Christianity, "organized religion", or the love and salvation of Jesus. The Westboro Church is largely made up of an antagonistic & litigious family [Note: it is yet undetermined if they are inbred], who exhibit their protests under the guise and legal protections of a Religion. Though arguably evil, do not be fooled into thinking these people are not intelligent and calculating. Many of the members are LAYWERS. They do not speak their vile, hateful and hurtful words for religious, biblical or spiritual reasons; they do it to anger people enough that they will either attack the Westboro members or attempt an ill-prepared lawsuit. When either of these things happen, the Westboro members are ready and waiting with bullet-proof Counter-Suits.

The WESTBORO MEMBERS DO NOT CARE ABOUT JESUS OR YOUR SOUL. THEY ONLY WANT TO GET YOU MONEY IN A LAWSUIT WHEN YOU TRY TO FIGHT THEM. Be careful, know more about Jesus to argue against these hypocrites, know the law, and look out for your brothers and sisters, in love. Take a look at the saving projects that Dio and his wife worked on for our nation's troubled, compared to the garbage that the Westboro people live for. And, take a look at the people that Jesus loved to associate with; they looked like DIO, his Family and his Fans.

hr that's cool and i can live with that. by the way the christian comment earlier wasn't meant to say your one, just that in a christian nation so many people even those that have changed there faiths still have a hard time moving outside that train of thought, i now see you have. i just assumed with out knowing(i'am courious on what your faith/view is).but i didn't become an athiest over night i did spend almost 2 1/2 decades studying many religions and cultures as an agnostic before arriving there, it's just the only thing that works for me, and fvck belonging to something i only really care about myself most of the time. finally as an athiest all i can say about the afterlife truelly is i don't know. it's also good to know i'm not the only outspoken self proclaimed d!ck out there, plus we do both love the metal. glad you liked the bunny bit.

well brother rag...i think i've given more than enough clues indicating my point of view...take from it what you suits you, or skip it completely...don't bug me at all

if i start on this fathomless topic, it will be a LONG fvckin story...and 'bringer is probably ready to fire my a$$ as it is ;)

for whatever the hell its worth: from what you've said, i think you're on a good and earnest path....but keep an open mind, and even more importantly an open heart...EVERYthing is ALIVE....the original mistake is cutting one's self off from the source

but DO cut yerself some goddamn slack 'man...have a dang beer and pet some nice bunnies :)

hr not going to argue with that, point well made.

long stories can be fun, but that would have to be another place and time if ever.

open mind is needed to learn an open heart too. (sometimes a lot of smoke also, can't understand why i have to read things 2 or 3 times for it to stick. oh yeah...bong.)

a beer sounds good, just 1 leads to 2, 2 leads to 4 and so on, then the next thing you know i'm on a ski trip that may last for a while, have to know your limits and self.i will promise the next few hits are to you, the bunnies, and all that is fvcking metal.:)

ps do you have the same problem i have with swimming? being so fvcking metal that you always sink to the bottom.
at least you don't have to worry about sharks, bullshark bite me in the a$$ once...broke all its teeth. i once cut through a constuction site on a friday night, and someone left the industrial magnet on. long story short they thought i went missing until monday morning when they opened up the site, there i was just hanging up there with no where to go. i really hope someone else thinks this is funny.

gotta go. hr your alright man.
