Interview with Edguy

On August 16th I interviewed Edguy at BBkings in New York City, NY. Due to time constraints, I had to interview the singer, Tobias Sammet, with two other interviewers. In addition, I missed most of Into Eternity, opening band’s, performance. I enjoyed doing the interview with Tobias, even if it was short and scattered.

Interview with In Flames

I had the pleasure of Interviewing Bjorn (guitar) of In Flames at Ozzfest on July 26th at PNC Arts Center in Holmdel, NJ.

It was a hot, sunny, dry afternoon of about 95 degrees. Bjorn found a spot on some grass to do the interview, which had been shaded by a near by tent. He was very laid back and no problem answering the questions I asked him.

Overall, the interview went very well. I enjoyed conducting the interview and learned a few things about the artist's perspective of their fans and reasons for doing what they do.

Interview With Ryan Primack Of Poison The Well

I had the chance to interview Poison The Well's Ryan Primack (guitar) at the Sounds Of The Underground Tour in Philadelphia, PA on June 26th, at the Festival Pier. On our way out to the bands touring van we had to pass the entrance and the woman checking tickets didn’t know he was in a band. She was ignoring him for about two minutes before she finally let us outside.

Interview With Dan Jacobs From Atreyu

The original plan at this year’s Warped Tour was to interview Avenged Sevenfold. However, I found out at the last minute that A7x weren’t doing any press for the day. Instead, I did an interview with Atreyu guitarist Dan Jacobs. I only had 15 minutes and had to take turns with Debbie from Popyoularity.com but I managed to squeeze in the following questions:

Interview With Chris Spicuzza of Chimaira

In our ongoing Sounds of the Underground coverage, I had the chance to interview Chris Spicuzza (keyboards/fx) from Chimaira by phone last week. The band had yet to play their set in Winston-Salem, NC that day, and were to play immediately before headliners Lamb of God that night. Despite some phone issues, the interview went pretty well and Chris seems like a very cool guy. Here's how it went:

An Interview with Bobaflex

This interview was conducted on the evening of June 10th with Mike and Martin of Bobaflex. The interview took place inside the Monkey Bar in Huntington, WV. The club was empty at the time except for the rest of the band (Jared and Thomas) plus crew setting up on stage, along with the club staff preparing the bars before the show. Interview With The Agony Scene's Brent Masters

I caught up with The Agony Scene drummer and founding member Brent Masters for a phone interview during a two-day break from touring with the "Dirty Black Summer" tour while on their way to their El Paso, Texas show last week. Not being very familiar with them, the interview was pretty straight forward and should serve as a good introduction to the band.

Interview with With Passion

On May 30th, 2005 i went to BBkings in New York City, NY to interview the opening band for Deicide, With Passion. I walked into the nightclub and found the whole band, except for the drummer, hanging out back stage. We found a spot in a hallway back stage and proceeded with the interview.

The band are really cool guys and there were lots of laughs. I had to take out great deal of irrelevant side commentary by both me and the bands, which is cool since it allowed us to have the interview feel more as a more casual talk than an interview.

Interview With The Esoteric

This is an e- mail interview with The Esoteric's frontman Steve Cruz.

Gothique: The band features members of hardcore pioneers Coalesce and also Today Is The Day. How did you guys start playing together?

Steve: Cory, Eric, and Anthony (all the string players) have been playing as The Esoteric since high school, even through Coalesce and Reggie, The Esoteric were always together. While Marshal and I were in high school we were playing in a band as well. Marshal joined Today Is The Day and I moved to Lawrence and after stalking the "Eso" for a few years joined them. Marshal came to visit and he was into what we were doing, so after our previous drummer quit, Marshal joined and now here we are.

Interview With Shaun And Pat From Seether

Yesterday (May 19) afternoon, I caught up with Seether guitarists, Pat Callahan and Shaun Morgan, after they filmed an acoustic version of "Remedy" for the TV show Urban Rush in Vancouver. Throughout the whole interview, both of them kept gazing out the big windows that overlooked the Burrard Inlet and the mountains. After naming the places they were staring at, I asked them a few questions about touring and the new album, "Karma and Effect," which hit stores next Tuesday (May 24).

Interview With Swallow The Sun

Very few bands in recent years start off with a debut album which gains so much attention and media acclamation. Swallow The Sun are yet another marvellous Doom/ Death act from Finland and their first album, "The Morning Never Came", is an amalgam of mesmerizing sounds in the finest tradition of the meisters in the genre ( My Dying Bride, Katatonia).

As much as I wish to have seen them live and done this interview face to face, alas I had to resort to the electronic medium. Nonetheless, guitarist Juha and keyboardist Aleksi took the time to answer my questions about their forthcoming album, new video and... ballet.

Interview With Nergal From Behemoth

I couldn't pass up the opportunity to interrogate Behemoth's mainman Nergal after their blistering live performance in Worcester, MA last friday.

Gothique: First of all, tell me how's the tour been going?

Nergal: Very good so far. It's been our third, fourth tour in a row right now, so it's pretty much we jump from one tour to another so we got our reasons to be burned out but still. Today I was totally sick, I caught pneumonia with all this. I had an awful headache.

Gothique: You sounded very well on stage despite that.

Nergal: You know what- it's adrenaline and it's the people. My theory is that it's the people who make the show. And we just help them out, that's how it works. When you get such dedicated and extreme metal lovers you just can't suck, you know, you go totally mad. So that's what we did.
