I'm trying to get into some punk, I'm very intrested in the punk influence in thrash and was wondering what you would suggest for someone trying to get into some overall punk rock.

Happy to help, I love punk rock

GBH, Black Flag, Rancid, Misfits, US Bombs, The Exploited, Circle Jerks, NoFX, Dead Kennedys, Pennywise, The Casualties, DOA, Adolescents, Lars Frederiksen and the Bastards, Minor Threat, Leftover Crack, Aus-Rotten.

That should get you started

I'd say the biggest punk influences on thrash were definitely DISCHARGE and early DRI (before they turned metal)
but yeah early bad brains, cro mags, early suicidal tendencies ,agnostic front, fear, exploited, black flag, amebix, doom etc you'll probably like it, its raw and has lots of distortion

^^ Definitely anything by the Dayglos...."Deux Chien Fourrant" comes to mind. There is so much good punk rock that it's hard to choose. A few off the top of my head - Antisect, Poison Idea, Guitar Wolf, The Syphilitic Vaginas, etc..

Yea Oz,Samoans were indeed great. Im going to a punk rock fest in Sept. that has a few of your countrys greats headlining. Cockney Rejects,Sham 69,The Business. Seen any of em. I love the Business! Boots and braces street punk with an edge. Good stuff, held thier own with the likes of Agnostic Front,Dropkick Murphys about 10 or 11 years ago. Mighty Sheer Terror are playing this fest too, some old school NY knuckledragging hardcore!

The [motherfucking] Exploited! Enough said.

Jun 3, 2011 1:39 PM ET #24 (permalink)

Fucking love the Exploited! I haven't seen any of those bands I'm afraid R10. I do love those bands though. It's a shame that Jimmy Pursey isn't in Sham 69 anymore though, takes away the edge I think.
