pyretta, theres alot of trash talk from the cheap seats, im guilty of taking a jab here and there at those worthy but this kid isnt one of them. If music defined a hockey player then Rypien was Metal.
R10 , im stoked for this season but its baseball mode heavy right now, someone should start a thread ; )
you ever make it to any games

Make it to less and less Sox games nowadays. Im lucky to attend 1 or 2 a year. If you dont get Sox tics in Feb. when they go on sale, you have a hard time getting them during the season. I used to go to 10 to 12 a year. Fortunately my brother who lives 10 miles outside of Boston has Bruins and Pats seoson tickets, ill usually hit a half dozen or more B's games and at least 1 or 2 Pats games. Not sure how many baseball fans on mu,but id be willing to talk about my Sox! Hey,you didnt happen to see "the cup" making the rounds up in Ontario did ya? Got a couple of natives in Thornton and Horton. They just had a rookie camp in July and a couple kids from the OHL stood out; Spooner and Knight. My brother thinks at least one of them could make the team .

Aug 20, 2011 1:43 AM ET #303 (permalink)

The cup didnt make it up this far north R10, the last time we had it was 09. Knight plays with a kid i coached last year so i got to see him play twice and thought he was the best player on the ice both games. Spooner i hear good things also although havent see play. One day R10, one day i hope to catch a game at Fenway, caught myself going over seating charts and ticket prices the other day.

im seeing the cup on the 30th, 12 hour drive but fucking worth it.... kinda suck he dosnt play for the bruins anymore, but i can pretend

Aug 20, 2011 2:41 PM ET #305 (permalink)

Dont touch the cup Pyretta or youl never win one ; )

Pyretta: M. Ryder? Yea,sad "Rides" wont be in Boston opening night for the banner ceromony, rings, etc. But hey,he got his name on the cup,was an important member of ac championship team. He stepped up big throughout the playoffs. He got himself a pretty good deal down in Big D. Yea Bezerk, you should really hit up a Sox game dude. Your loonies worth more than our dollar,so perfect time would be next season. No park like Fenway! I actually saw the Sox play in Toronto back when the Jays were coming off from thier ws win. Differant enviroment than Fenway. Every games a playoff game for the sox at Fenway, April to October. Hell,i can still remember when i first walked in that park with my father a long time ago. Old Boston Garden had that effect too, miss that old barn.

Aug 20, 2011 4:05 PM ET #307 (permalink)

I can imagine the Dome is nothing compared to the Chapel, Jays used to play at old exhibition stadium (outdoors ) and die hards say theres no comparison in venues. I liked rides as well, hell i like most newfies who play in the big leagues. Cleary and Langdon come to mind

Former stay at home d-man Brad Brown also a newfie i believe. He had a few seasons with Montreal,Chicago,a tough guy,a few memorable bouts with Belak with Toronto. Bruins have a few maritimers,Marchie,Rides, and the mulleted maniac from PEI,McQuaid. Yea,i remember Langdon, dude was about as tough as they come, threw jackhammer rights! Yea ,Bezerk, love Toronto, great city, horrible baseball fans though. Hockey town, suppose a Leafs game would be much differant. I was there when the downtown hockey HOF first opened. Surprisingly, everytime ive seen the Leafs play B's at TD,theres plenty of Leafs fans there. First B's game i ever went to,Feb 80,against the Leafs,Jonathan had a good throwdown with Tiger Williams.Ahh the memories!

Aug 20, 2011 8:13 PM ET #309 (permalink)

yeah brad browns a newfie, from baie veird (dont know how to spell it).... but he dosnt count cause he was a canadien.....lol i know ryder played with them too but he was an exeption at the time. East coast will hopefully take over hockey now, theres never been much out this way for kids, but since crosby, marchand, mcquaid, ryder etc hopefully that will put more interest in east coast hockey specially with the ice caps moving here. what a fucking name

Aug 20, 2011 8:14 PM ET #310 (permalink)

Brownie played his junior here in North Bay for the defunct Centennials now Saginaw Spirit. Bad news Brown used to skate with us in the summers up until a few years back, i think he sold his house and moved outa town. I still remember Twist welcoming him to the league, he had a couple good bouts over the years and put a beating on a few guys here and there lol!

Yea,Mr. Marchand is gonna make you maritimers proud,Pyretta. He's gotta get his partying under control though! Dudes been a "rock star" since he won the cup! Theyre calling him another Derek Sanderson.because of his partying ways. Love that dude though,so much grit! Love his little slaps at the Sedin sister also! Classic! McQuaids a heavy weight in the making, solid play d wise also! Bezerk, good story on Brown,i wouldnt want to scrap with Twister either. I remember when SK native Lyndon Byers beat ole Twist down when he first came up for Quebec. Scary fucking dude though,as big as a NFL linebacker!

Aug 20, 2011 9:58 PM ET #312 (permalink)

yeah i think marchand is going to be amazing, fucking love him, as ugly as he may be
and you have to relized, us east coasters are on a differnt level of drinking and partying. i think he can balance the two lol .im convinced the reason alot of people dont have much money here is because we drink 2-3 times more alcohol than most people and we pay 2-3 times more for it

Aug 20, 2011 10:02 PM ET #313 (permalink)

Ya R10 Marchand is a specimen, Memorial cup appearance, world juniors , stanley cup champ, always playing on the big stage. I imagine my head would get swelled up abit, rock star for sure. Byers was bad ass, Twist got on the juice and trained like a body builder and eventually couldnt skate, at one time serious heavyweight contention. Last i actually heard from Brownie he was playing with the baby leafs a few years ago, beat up Mcgratton then of Ottawa in a preseason tilt when Mcgratton was scaring everybody and the sens where actually good .

Ahh,love Marchie, huge beak,uni-brow and all! Dudes a gamer, you coildnt appreciate him unless you were a B's fan! Hopefully he reigns it in a bit, dudes making Boston papers once a week,a socialite, partying with rappers and shit. He's gotta bright future in front of him, hopefully he tapers the party style. Seen to many players crash and burn, couldnt handle shit outside the rink.

R10- I saw way up there you mentioned you are a baseball fan, and here I thought I was the only one. Damnit, Why does the only other baseball fan have to be a dreaded Red Sox fan? hahaha, Just kidding.
If you did not know I am from Southern California so I am a big Angels fan and I go to about 20-25 games a year. Thanks for taking care of the Rangers for us the past couple days, the Halos are just two games out of the division lead. My prediction right now is that the World Series will be Philadelphia against Boston, but there are a lot games left.

On a hockey note, still no official announcement from Teemu about retirement. The speculation is that he is having some problems with his knee and is worried, but Orange County hockey fans go thru this every off-season and after the great season he had last year we kind of all expect him to return for one more.

Yea Bruno, long time Sox fan here. And hey,i believe "Red Sox nation" spreads into Canada. Believe Olaf is a Sox fan alsp. Were everywhere. Im sure youve seen a fair share of Sox caps at Angels games. I actually think the Halos have better pitching than the Rangers. Weaver and Haren carrys them. Texas has better bats. Im as a Sox fan always worried about the Yankees. You can never count those fuckers out. Im looking forward to October, start of hockey season,MLB playoffs,NFL in full swing. Always my favorite time of year. And i think Selanne should come back,he had a great season last year.

Aug 26, 2011 12:53 AM ET #317 (permalink)

Bruno- loved watching the Angels and Sox battle over the last decade. I always liked Vladdy when he was with the Expos, and wished he landed in Boston. Since we are the only 3 talking Baseball on a hockey thread il ask this.... If you where a relief pitcher what would your theme song be as you made your way to the mound? The Four Horsemen would be mine, kinda like i was one of the Horsemen and i was gona take the strikezone. Seriously though , Hockey is on the horizon, football and pennant races wheeeew

Damage Inc. would be a good one Berzerk. Think theyd have the bleep out the "fuck" on slashing through dont fuck with razorback though, wouldnt be appropriate at family friendly Fenway. About the most intimadating looking reliever is NH native B. Wilson, with his backwoods beard and all. All time,Sox had a dude named Lee Smith,6 foot 6,took him about 10 minutes to do his slow amble in from the pen. Intimidating though. Sox helped Bruno again last night, taking 3 of 4 from Texas. A. Gongalez is some fucking hot now,2 more dingers tonight. Him and Ellsbury look like strong mvp candidates. Angels easily could overtake Texas Bruno, dont know how many more head to head matchups they got. I actually wouldnt mind seeing a Red Sox/Brewers ws,but Philly looks so damned tough to beat with that pitching;Halladay,Lee,Hamels;scary!

Aug 26, 2011 4:11 PM ET #319 (permalink)

R10- Unfortunately when the Yankees and Red Sox come to town, the stadium is about 60% Angel fans and 40% East Coast fans. No other team gets more cheers in our house, except maybe the Dodgers. I love October for all the reasons you listed, it really is the best month of the year. Come World Series time, I am like McMurphy in "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" when it comes to seeing the games. Even though your Red Sox are our biggest rival, I know one statement that always gets Angel fans and Red Sox fans to unite: "Fuck the Yankees!"

Olaf- Vladdy was a stud for many years, and i wish we would have kept him instead of signing Wells and Abreu. I was about two years old when the rivarly between the Angels and Red Sox began during the 1986 ALCS. You guys are going to be tough this year to beat, but I would rather have Boston representing the AL then the Stankees if the Angels do not make it.

My intro song would be "Heaven and Hell" by Black Sabbath.....that opening riff as the bullpen doors open would be fuckin' awesome /m\

R10- Angels and Rangers have six more games against each other, including the last three games of the season here in Anaheim, so it really could come down to the wire. I am pretty sure Boston plays Texas in another series at Fenway, but i am not sure. It is refreshing for there to be competition in the West after the Angels dominating for the past 7, 8 years or so

Ha,good one on McMurphy in "One Flew over The Cuckoos Nest" Classic! Dude just wanted to see the series. Sox actyally draw great around the majors, you ought to see Baltimore/ Sox series.70 % sox fans,30 Orioles fans. Must suck for the Orioles, home game but a road game attendance wise. Sox nation, far and wide. Saw the Sox in Montreal a number of years ago,Expos set a 3 day attendance record, all sox x fans of course! Those strip clubs on St.Catherines were filled with Sox fans! So Cal is home to alot of transplanted New Englanders,so it doesnt shock me that alot of Sox fans show up in Anaheim. Good pick on Heaven and Hell,Butlers bass, bad ass song, doom and gloom for the other team. Hey,how come the Angels have been called Los Angeles,California, and Anaheim Angels. Its all the same region, why the confusion? I still slip and call them the California Angels sometimes. Berzerk,Vlad the Impaler was bad ass! One of the best bad ball hitters ever. Saw him golf one out of the dirt one time, sent it 430 ft. Would have made a great Bo-Sox,to go along with ManRam. But we signed Drew.

Aug 26, 2011 5:32 PM ET #322 (permalink)

R10- Oh yeah, the transplants come out in full force for the Sox games. Personally, if someone is wearing a Red Sox cap I really do not mind as long as they have that Baw-ston accent because they probably grew up supporting the team. I know if I ever moved to another state I would still root for the Angels no matter what.

Don't get this fan started on the whole LA Angels thing. When Arte Moreno bought the team five years ago and announced the name change the back lash was tremendous. Millions upon millions of fans signed a petition demanding the removal of the Los Angeles moniker. In fact, there was a law-suit filed in court listing every city in Orange County as plaintiffs to remove Los Angeles from team's name, but it got thrown out because the court ruled as long as Anaheim was in the name it was okay. I still know them as the California Angels and will acknowledge the Anaheim Angels but as far as the whole LA thing goes Angel fans just bury their heads in the sand and try to ignore the Arizona-raised owner's lack of understanding of the Southern California region.

Very confusing on the name thing Bruno. When i was a youngin, started collecting baseball cards, they were the California Angels. They had Nolan Ryan,Frank Tanana,Lymon Bostock,Etc... Hard not to call them California to me. I remember quite well that playoff series in 86 when Henderson hit that homer off Donnie Moore. We got to.the ws and choked against the Mets! Only time i ever cried after a game! I remember telling my father we would never win! Thats why 04 was so damn sweet. Ended long suffering. I guess people around the league think Sox fans are cocky, but thats not the case. Were used to heartbreak and failure, used to playing second fiddle to the yanks. Yea,talk about a complex. Thats why the last 7 years have been so sweet! Honestly,i have two favorite teams, the Sox,and whoever plays the damn Yankees!

Aug 26, 2011 7:15 PM ET #324 (permalink)

Growing up I loved to hear my father talk about the Halos of the 70's....Tanana, Ryan, etc. I also remember the Red Sox sucking until about ten years ago. But hey, times have changed and Boston puts a top notch team onthe field every year. Of all the big league parks, I really want to go to Fenway.

Speaking of that 1986 series, Lenny Dysktra was arrested again in Los Angeles, this time for putting up ads for Craiglist maids and exposing himself when they show up to clean his place. That homer he hit in game 2 (?) really changed the course of the series.
