cryonics - @Cryonics - for some reason I've never warmed up to "The Warning" from what I've heard, but the "Queensrÿche" EP is pretty awesome.... haven't even heard "Rage for Order". I've been listening to a ton of stuff, the new ones from Mournful Congregation and Hammers of Misfortune mainly. Though as far as recommendations - Vektor have really impressed me, Blitzkrieg have cemented themselves as my all time favourite NWOBHM band and I've finally warmed up to Bolt Thrower, which you'd think would be a no brainer but just never clicked until now. |

^bolt thrower has always been one of those bands that Ive never really clicked with either, always expecting "I'll like them eventually". I recognize elements of the music that I'm already a fan of, but the overall sound of the band hasnt grasped me yet. I should keep trying at it though, because I'm a huge Landmine Marathon fan, and everybody says they borrow alot from BoltThrower, sooo...WHY DONT I LISTEN TO BOLTHROWER GODAMNIT WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH ME. Although I'm currently in a metal withdrawal right now anyway, searching for rappers at the moment, as opposed to my constant frantic search for new bands, that I'm usually entrenched in. Example: Now Playing: Childish Gambino- Bonfire |

My advice is this... get into a mood where you feel like you want to listen to brutish, fist pounding groovy shit like Amon Amarth... walking outdoors in crowds is my favourite time. Anyway, then instead, put on Bolt Thrower's last album "Those Once Loyal". Magic man. Now Playing: Voivod - Missing Sequences |

I like Bolt Thrower but can't say I'm a fan or have any of their stuff. I'd like to see them live though. The Smiths - Sheila Take A Bow |

Cynic - Give that album a more thorough listen and I'm sure it'll grow on you. Hmm, not familiar with that first band you mentioned? I will certainly check them out though! "As Fire Swept Clean The Earth" by Enslaved EDIT: I've only heard Vektor's "Black Future" album. Very technical stuff man. (This post was last edited on December 2, 2011 at 12:36 AM ET.) |

Righto, I definitely will do, Geoff Tate is a marvel to listen to. FAN mentioned above about going through metal withdrawal (metal fatigue? :P) some times and I totally know about that. But at the moment I'm in a total backswing, I'm sucking up metal like it's god damn coke. I've been rocking to Voivod's later albums recently since "Nothingface" hit me like a 3 ton hammer a while ago. We all know most of the thrash bands took 90 degree turns to groove or rock or whatever in the 90s but Voivod are officially one of the bands who did it and stayed awesome. Voivod - "Angel Rat" EDIT: Oh and mid period Enslaved? Another band who up until recently I'd only ever heard "Vikingligr Veldi" and nothing later. New stuff is really nice, I can only assume the mid period lands somewhere between their black metal and rocky/jazzy style. (This post was last edited on December 2, 2011 at 3:26 PM ET.) |
