Cynic: Thanks, I was wondering if anybody was going to get back to me on that or not, lol.

Mar 13, 2010 7:32 PM ET #27 (permalink)

My first NWOBHM band was probably Iron Maiden... My favorites are probably Venom, Pagan Altar, and Motorhead.

Mar 13, 2010 8:44 PM ET #28 (permalink)

Never considered Motorhead part of the NWOBHM because they formed and released their first record in 1975 and by the time bands like Iron Maiden and Saxon released their first albums, Motorhead had three under their belts and had made a name for themselves on the national rock scene. Same goes for Judas Priest, I always get so annoyed when people call them NWOBHM.

Mar 13, 2010 10:41 PM ET #29 (permalink)

Yeah I don't like it when people consider Priest NWOBHM bands, I don't really know what to think about Motorhead though, Wikipedia says they're NWOBHM, the Metal Archives though, don't say anything about it...

Mar 14, 2010 8:49 AM ET #30 (permalink)

Bear in mind Wikipedia's entries are done by the public and frequently change. I remember reading an interview with Lemmy and he said Motorhead was awkward because they came along too late for the first wave of metal bands and too early for the NWOBHM. Technically though you could say Praying Mantis weren't a NWOBHM band because they formed in 1974 but they didn't release an album until 1979 I believe, so they'll always be lumped in with that movement.

Had to bring this thread back to life. Anyone heard Cloven Hoof? They were/are pretty damn good!

getting here a little late, better late than never.Heres a little list of NWoBHM bands. I'm Sure i am Missing a few and some shouldnt be in here. feel free to correct me just don't give me too much crap about it. I'm looking for bands that were from the same era but not from the UK and didnt get the NWoBHM tag because of it. Rollerball is a prime example. if you know any let me know.

Wow! That's a damn impressive list! I wouldn't call Cockney Rejects metal though, more Oi!. I met the singer from Dealer when I was working as a door to door salesman. Nice guy, gave me a CD.

Oh and also, you said you were looking for bands of the same style and time that weren't British. Check out Picture from Holland.

Oct 18, 2010 10:06 AM ET #35 (permalink)

Daaamn.. thats a hellluva list.!
Only one that I noticed isnt included would be Waysted... formed by former UFO bassist Pete Way, after
he left UFO to form Fastway with Fast Eddie Clark and then left that project to form his own band.!

Oct 18, 2010 4:06 PM ET #36 (permalink)

Would be better if you had noted the best ones from the list!
