Wilco, i know this is a very late answer, but I know Cliff Burton used a booster of some sort, a distortion unit, some phase/flange effects plus a wah.

For Boost and Distortion, a basic BOSS bass fx pedals should cover your needs. You might also wanna check out some multi-effects pedal units by Digitech, as an example, but if my memory serves me correctly, I think they do not come with any distortion effects, which is a bit idiotic ( no idea why dist/ods have been left out.. ??!)

I´m no expert on Bass Wah pedals, but you really cannot go wrong with the white Jim Dunlop wah pedal (no idea what the actual model is called), it´s been used Jason Newstedt, Robert Trujillo and Flea of red hot chili peppers
so I assume the pedal works reasonably well ;)
