I love classic metal, however I'm getting tired of paying $100 to go to a concert only to sit 300 feet away from the stage and watch the band on a big tv screen. I'm looking for suggestions of newer and smaller bands (hopefully nyc based) that have a similar sound to Iron Maiden or AC/DC or Judas Priest. The kind of band that I can see play in a bar and maybe even buy them a drink after. Any suggestions (any maybe youtube links) will be helpful...

Hey!

You should check out the young (age 13 to 15) heavy metal band from Norway called Fuzz Generation or The Fuzz Generation. We are working on our first album, but we have a couple of songs out on Youtube and the Norwegian underground music website "Urørt" (which means "untouched"). We are heavily influeced by Metallica, Megadeth and ARTCH.

Here are some links:

I can second Holy Grail, although they're from Los Angeles. Nice mix of thrash and 80's glam and classic metal.

Scream at the Sun is a Minneapolis based metal band with its feet in many aspects of the metal genre. The bands many influences darkly intrigue and pull at every corner of the mind. Evoking shadows from your Peripheral vision, and melodically tantalising your sub conscious. Their music is true metal for all.

Hello - I'm new to this site. I'm visiting the US for the F1 Grand Prix in November and I would like to visit some rock bars/clubs whilst over. The conversation on classic metal caught my eye and the comments regarding the Swedish bands. I would really recommend the two Dynazty albums. Great driving classic sound but with a beefed up production. Also the two Eclipse albums are very melodic but very punchy - well worth a listen. For the glam lover the Poodles albums and the first two Wig Wam albums are good cock rock offerings. If you want out and out AC/DC rip off there is an Australian band called Airbourne (I don't know if they have got stateside yet?). Another band you might like are a Swiss band called Gotthard but mainly their earlier albums for the classic sound. They have become more of an AOR act over the years. There is so much stuff coming out it's hard to keep up but there is some older albums which never saw the light of day on CD getting a release. Kick Axe, Icon, Shark Island, Q5, Crimson Glory (more Priest than Priest themselves) Hope these are of interest and hope someone can give me a heads up on my up coming trip to Austin

Cheers
