I am also proud to say I don't own an "i" anything. Why would I buy a device that limits me from performing a simple battery change?

Sup Fuckers, have a solid weekend all and stay hydrated. Go Philly Go !!!!!

Looking to get into some Iced Earth. Yay or nay? If so, what?

Oct 9, 2011 7:42 PM ET #229 (permalink)

In a way I think "The Dark Saga" is the best intro to Iced Earth. It's the point where they sort of streamlined their sound into what they currently are, and also had Matt Barlow on vocals. If you're a fan of Ripper Owens, "The Glorious Burden" is also worth hearing. If you're a fan of Blind Guardian, you might just throw in the towel and get Demon And Wizard's debut since it's pretty much Iced Earth with Hansi on vocals.

I'm actually planning to cover Iced Earth in next week's SOS article so I'll make sure to post a bit of every era so you can see what you like best. I'd say they're a better live band than they are album wise. Probably the best place to start is Horror Show.

Actually Cynic, you're right. That was a pretty decent album.

Cool deal Oz.

All I know is, Iced Earth is about to get shit-ton of new fans. Ive only been a casual admirer of them, y'know, respecting them for what theyve done but not really giving a shit because power metals not usually my thing, but with Stu Block on vocals I'm suddenly on the bandwagon. That new song I heard was the shit. I'm about to spam one of my buddies for lists of good iced earth songs, since hes been listening to them for years while I've ignored them on the sidelines haha.

Sup fucks,i wonder if any of you are into Mushroom Head. The reason i ask is i might go see them Fri. in Worcester at Rock & Shock. Bills pretty tight with Cavalera Conspiracy,Devin Townsend,The Ocean,Earth Crisis, etc. Havent really heard much from Mushroom Head, the headliners. What are some of thier "must own" albums? Ill probably hit up Newbury Comics before show to at least get new Machine Head. Looking forward to that new Iced Earth a week from now, cant wait. Stu brings alot to the table, havent been this excited for an IE release in quite some time.

R10: Friends of mine. Start with XIII and XX, then move on to Savior Sorrow and Beautiful Stories For Ugly Children. Superbuick is pretty bad ass too.

Oct 11, 2011 2:24 PM ET #235 (permalink)

Almost forgot. They put on a hell of a show. Enjoy...

Alright, thanks BG! Im gonna see if i can pick up at least one of thier albums to at least become semi familiar with what they're about. Checked out a few of thier trippy vids on you-tube,not bad. Im sure it all goes over much better live. Saturday at Rock and Shock in Worcester,ICP is playing,i'll stay well away from that mess. Think they got GWAR sunday, ive seen them countless times, dont really need to see em again, even though they put on a great show. Looks like Mushroomhead,Cavalera Conspiracy,Devin Townsend,Otep,Earth Crises, etc is my entertainment this weekend.

r10- I noticed that most of the stuff I buy online comes from Newbury Comics. That is cool you get to visit the actual store without spending the shipping and handling charges

Yea,Bruno,Newbury Comics is a great indie chain in New England. Whats great is i can get what evers new at a reasonably low price, usually 9.99 to 11.99 for the first few weeks of release. Great selection of used metal also,i found some real out of print gems used. I still live in the "physical music" world,so id hate to think ever losing Newbury Comics. Best Buy with thier prices, and horrible selection just dont cut it for me.

Oct 11, 2011 4:02 PM ET #239 (permalink)

Rite on. I have been buying alot of used music online because you can get the average CD from 2-9 dollars and then with two on top of that for shipping it really is not that expensive

the physical world of music is all that I will ever know. Fuck downloading.....except for porn

Edit: fuck Best Buy, too. I have been there maybe twice since I was forcefully removed from one of their stores in 2003 for asking where the cassette section was located.

I swear to God, that was insane. Incredible. This is the best night of my life. That was my first metal gig and I've never been so happy. He gave me the pick that he was playing, while on stage, LIKE HE HANDED IT TO ME BECAUSE I TALKED TO HIM. And he signed a free shirt I got from the night. And tomorrow he's signing my guitar. MY GUITAR. And I have a poster of him, signed.

I have never been happy like this before.

Oct 13, 2011 6:56 PM ET #246 (permalink)

I met up with him today (the next day) and he signed my guitar and we jammed. There were like 10 of us who showed up. 10 Loomis fans in Shanghai.

Went to the gym and did my first workout ever. Squats, deadlifts, bench presses etc. Feels good. Hopefully I'll actually have muscle by the time I go to college.

Hopefully I go to college.
