Anyone know any good Christian metal bands? Found a few recently, but am open to more.

Well Trouble and Believer to me were always the best. Have you heard Eternal Decision? Crimson Moonlight are pretty popular too.

Oh and Place of Skulls is another good one, when you look at their current and past members they're pretty much a who's who of doom metal.

Deicide?

Believer is where its at. Really spacey prog in terms of song structure, but with metallica and Slayer-style riffs all over the place, with generally fantastic layered vocals, which lean form typical singing prog fare to a more thrash-leaning sound akin to a bark or yell. So something different, if nothing else.

As a metalcore band, and Ive been singing their praises forever, Sinai Beach is the shit. though its fairly difficult to get your hands on anything of theirs for some reason. This song for example, Neccesary Bloodshed, is about Jesus' sacrifice:

the title of this thread is an oxymoron.

No it's not. Don't judge. In The Midst of Lions is a good band.

Awesome! I have some new bands to check out. I've never heard much from Believer, through my own ignorance. I'll be looking them up some more.
Living Sacrifice are kind of the obvious ones for me. Some other old school metal bands that I liked were Tourniquet, Deliverance, Vengeance Rising (used to have a bad-ass concert shirt of theirs), and to a lesser extent Mortification.
To find more Christian bands, check out some Christian metal labels. Probably look for Solid State, Facedown records (Mostly Metalcore and Hardcore punk), and Tooth and Nail Records.

Yea ap1,check out the first two Trouble records. Psalm 9 and the Skull. They were marketed in mid 80s as "white metal" The song 'the Tempter' is a classic with a doomy Sabbathy feel to it. Havent heard Believer, ill have to check them out. If your into any death/metal core,Sleeping Giant has a few good songs. Heard Sinai Beach a number of years ago, they werent bad. Dont think they are still together. Have seen Impending Doom and War of Ages on differant package tours, they seem to attract a following, although im not into them.

I think The Crown is a christian band. They're pretty fuckin awesome whatever they are.

The Order of Apollyon and Saint are a couple other ones.

I never knew Trouble were a Christian band. Learn something new every day.

Aug 15, 2011 12:51 PM ET #13 (permalink)

Their first few albums were Christian in nature, until they started drifting into more stoner doom lyrics and songs about pot.

^Ha, nice. Gotta check that shit out. And I actually like Sinai Beach now, so much so that I wish they weren't Christian.

I kid, I kid. :P

think morbid angel is a christain band hail satan

I got some War of Ages, and they aren't bad. Living Sacrifice's first album is such a blatant Reign In Blood rip-off, that I couldn't help but like it. Only 1 bad album from them. Their new one is fantastic. Got some Behold The Archetype, Hope For The Dying, For Today and others.

I'll have to check out some of that Living Sacrifice stuff. If it can be mentioned in the same sentance as Reign in Blood, its gotta be good. Sonic T is right, when Trouble started releasing trippy, stoner, stuff like Plastic Green Head,i moved on. B.Slagel of Metal Blade unfotunately marketed them as "white metal" which harmed thier career. I know the band was none to happy. They wanted to play with the Slayers,Megadeths,Hallows Eve,Celtic Frosts of the world. The tag and descrip hurt them. E.Wagner is easilly one of the best vocalists/lyracists imo! Touble is seriously overlooked and under rated imo!

True R10. Trouble are one of the tightest, heaviest doom metal bands around. They were arguably in that top 3 of early 80's doom metal, rounded out by Witchfinder General and Pentagram. They had a conflict with the image in the beginning...imagine how interesting it was to see them open for King Diamond way back in the day. After hearing "The Fall of Lucifer" or "Psalm 9" and then seeing King burn a doll onstage while behind his upside-down crucifix microphone. When they drifted towards no Christianity in their lyrics, their music was still every bit as lethal. I saw them open for Pantera and they blew them off the stage. Eric Wagner hasn't been with the band for a few years now. What a shame.

Jesus H. Christ,Sonic T,you saw Trouble blow Pantera off the stage! Holy mother of fuck! Early 90s i take it? Never saw Trouble ,even though i started getting into them in early 85. Best of Metal Blade 2 introduced me to them,CelticFrost,Hallows Eve, Fates Warning, etc. Hey NH,i know you were kidding, use one of those smiley faces next time. Humor is something to get across over the web!

@sonictherapy - God that is awesome! Would kill to have seen them live - I've heard their '83 live demo tape and a "Live in Stockholm" bootleg and they are just insane, their power is not lost from their albums. I'm a massive Trouble fan actually - even though Wagner's vocals were a big draw card there's a new song on their website with Cory on vocals and he's pretty good. They've been talking about an ultra-heavy new album for a while now, no recent news though.

Also, there's always been a bit of a debate as to whether Trouble are a Christian band, or a band that sings only about Christianity (like say how Nile sing about Egypt). Can't confirm either from interviews, interesting though.
