Pig Destroyer’s J.R. Hayes Talks To HBB
When indie metal mag, Decibel, ranked Pig Destroyer’s Phantom Limb as the best disc of 2007 — above records by Dillinger Escape Plan, Down and Machine Head — it seemed like a bold move. But it wasn’t as audacious as the publication’s decision to emphasize its choice with a year-end cover story interview.
Most bands would sell their sisters’ souls to achieve such an endorsement, however Pig Destroyer are too concerned with staying true to themselves to worry about what other people think of them. While he was flattered by the attention, singer J.R. Hayes told us he hasn’t even taken the magazine out of the shrink-wrap, and can’t understand why the band is drawing praise from everyone from fanzines to major monthlies.
Hayes explains in the latest Headbangers Ball Blog Pig Destroyer podcast, Pig Destroyer would rather remain an underground entity than ever become popular.
Hayes discusses why he likes to be called a misogynist (even though he isn’t one), his struggle with depression and anxiety, why he hates shooting videos, how Pig Destroyer will never tour more than a few days at a time and the bitterness and hate that makes Phantom Limb so powerful.

Pig Destroyer Announce Release Date Of New Album
Grind legends Pig Destroyer have finished recording, at Omega Studios (BAD BRAINS) in Rockville, MD, the follow-up to 2004's Terrifyer. Phantom Limb was produced by guitarist/producer Scott Hull, and is to be released internationally on June 18th, and on June 12th in North America. Previews of the artwork for the album, which was done by John Baizley (BARONESS, TORCHE), can be viewed at the bands MySpace page, here.
As previously reported, vocalist JR Hayes had the following to say about Phantom Limb: "We're recording to two-inch analog tape, which is really exciting. The drums sound HUGE, and the guitar tones are really nasty and aggressive. Brian's been on top of his game all year, busting out easily the fastest blast beats I've ever seen him play. As usual, Scott's written a whole arsenal of scalding riffs, but I feel like he really outdid himself with the arrangements on this record. The songs feel great and we've been having a load of fun playing them for the last five months. It's the 14 most deranged metal songs we could make up, so get ready to sink your f*cking teeth in."
The finalised tracklisting for Phantom Limb is as follows:
01. Rotten Yellow
02. Jupiter's Eye
03. Deathtripper
04. Thought Crime Spree
05. Cemetery Road
06. Lesser Animal
07. Phantom Limb
08. Loathsome
09. Heathen Temple
10. Fourth Degree Burns
11. Alexandria
12. Girl In The Slayer Jacket
13. Waist Deep In Ash
14. The Machette Twins

Pig Destroyer Recording New Album
PIG DESTROYER has entered Omega Studios (BAD BRAINS) in Rockville, MD to begin recording its new full-length album, titled "Phantom Limb". The follow-up to 2004's "Terrifyer" will feature 14 all-new songs from the heralded grindcore troupe and artwork by John Baizley (BARONESS, TORCHE). Advance songtitles include: "Cemetery Road", "Rotten Yellow", "Jupiter's Eye", "Heathen Temple" and "The Machete Twins".
Commented PIG DESTROYER vocalist JR Hayes: "We're recording to two-inch analog tape, which is really exciting.
Added guitarist Scott Hull: "We're excited about 'Phantom Limb' because it all seems to be coming together in a much different way than our past discs. We set the date for the studio, THEN we fired up the muse to write the material. The process has became much faster, more focused, and with all the energy intact and sharpened. It has also been a hugely positive experience to be able to just be the guitarist, rather than the guy behind the button as well. Just wait until you hear it."
In other news, PIG DESTROYER recently made its long-standing trio a quartet with the addition of Blake Harrison (TRIAC) to the fold. PIG DESTROYER has also been confirmed to co-headline at this year's Los Angeles Murderfest on Sunday, March 25 along with BRUTAL TRUTH, CRETIN, and many more. Additional PIG DESTROYER live appearances will be announced shortly.

A single day pass is $30 in advance, while a while a two-day pass is $50 in advance.
Pig Destroyer Add Fourth Member, New Album Update
NEW BANDMATE: Please welcome Blake Harrison to the band. Yup you read it right, PD is now a 4 piece, and Blake is going to be running samples and noise live and on recordings. He's currently also in Baltmore rockers Triac and Hatebeek. He's a member of Team Fingerblast and will be updating the site, handling the web store (because we apparently can't get it together on our own). He'll be PD's mouthpiece. He's also the dude behind the the myspace page (I don't know what the hell it is right now). Personal interests: cigarettes, fingerbanging, drinking...
We put the 7" single's series on hold until we complete the new full length this December. JR's already working on artwork wth John Baisley from Baroness.
Furthermore this site will likely idle down to archive mode until we start gearing up around the release of the new full length. But you're already used to no updates
