For nearly a decade, Decibel has fostered the brotherhood between the craft beer and metal worlds with the monthly "Brewtal Truth" column written Adem Tepedelen. Now, the two worlds will be united in one glorious weekend of extreme sound and suds in Philadelphia.
Headliners include grindcore brutalizers Agoraphobic Nosebleed (Saturday) and reunited stoner doom legends Sleep (Sunday) with Municipal Waste, Pig Destroyer, Immolation, Panopticon, Withered, Khemmis, Krieg, Crypt Sermon, Falls of Rauros and Cemetery Piss rounding out a devastating weekend of intoxicated metal mayhem.
A host of craft breweries in the U.S. will also be taking part: TRVE (CO), Hammerheart (MN), Holy Mountain (WA), Burial (NC), Atlas (DC), Hoof Hearted (OH), Neshaminy Creek (PA), Burnt Hickory (GA), Hydra (SD), Tired Hands (PA), Champion (VA), Three Weavers (CA), 18th Street (IN) and Cigar City (FL). After completing an extensive trek this past spring, The Black Dahlia Murder is ready to head out on the road again - first, joining Max & Iggor Cavalera Return To Roots, Allegaeon, Combichrist, All Hail The Yeti, and Oni for some performances across North America, before kicking off a co-headlining USA run with Napalm Death.
Set to begin November 1st, this "Abysmal Predator" co-headliner features Abnormality, Pig Destroyer, Misery Index, and Power Trip as support on select performances. The Black Dahlia Murder will also headline a few shows before and after joining this tour package.
The Black Dahlia Murder comments: "It is our great pleasure to once again reunite with our long-time pals in Napalm Death; we really hit it off with them when we were just little tykes on our first-ever European tour so many years ago. To this day, Napalm remain a vital force in music and are some of my absolute heroes. It feels great to finally be able to announce this amazing line-up we've been brewing... Keeping a secret this good was killing me inside! All of the bands are absolutely killer and we couldn't be more proud to be considered a part of this elite. We'll see you this fall, bring your helmet!" More...

Whoever decided to book the Abbath, High On Fire and Skeletonwitch tour date on the same day as a Pig Destroyer show deserves to be shot. After seeing how many people turned up to see PD, I feel really sorry for everyone involved with the Abbath tour.
Then again, it might not have been as dire for them since metal's grown larger as it has grown more diverse. I was surprised by the amount of people over 40, women and people dressed like they just got out of work at an office job. Usually metal shows – particularly for bands as brutal as Pig Destroyer – attract a audience of mostly 18-35-year-old working class males. Then again, since anyone who isn't part of that demographic is treated as a complete pariah by TV executives and aren't allowed to be couch potatoes, it's only natural that they'd show up to see Pig Destroyer. After all, metal is ultimately a genre for the dispossessed misfits of society.
The initial lineup for Arizona's Southwest Terror Fest V: Houses Of The Unholy has been announced, as early bird tickets for the event have been made available this week.

2013 is quickly drawing to a close, but before it does, Pig Destroyer will be playing two more shows. The band will be playing December 20th in Richmond, VA at Strange Matter with Noisem and Occultist. The following night Pig Destroyer heads to Silver Springs, MD for a show with Darkest Hour and Black Clouds.
Last month Pig Destroyer added a new member to the fold. Adam Jarvis' cousin John Jarvis joined as the band's first-ever bass player. John made his live debut last month at the band's appearance at the Housecore Film Festival in Austin, TX.
Pig Destroyer released fifth studio album "Book Burner" this past October on Relapse Records. Catch the band live:

Housecore Horror Film and Heavy metal festival masterminds, Corey Mitchell and Philip H. Anselmo brought Austin, Texas a rare entertainment opportunity, packaged in human flesh, marred by celluloid cigarette burns--a four-day, multi-stage, multi-tent, multi-everything horror-movie festival. Industry people arrived from all around the world to help support this lofty endeavor.
The gorier the better as many of the major stars of the film portion of the festival had participated in legendary blood spillers such as the "Nekromantik" film series (Director Jörg Buttgereit ), "Coffin Joe" (Director José Mojica Marins ) and "Friday the 13th." Ari Lehman made film history when Jason Voorhees finally sprung to life after the murder of his mother. Lehman attended the festival not only as a film celebrity, but as a musician. Nefarious of Macabre joined Lehman on stage in his First Jason band to perform campy horror metal songs about that guy in the hockey mask. More...
Grind kings Pig Destroyer have added a new member to the fold: Adam Jarvis' cousin John Jarvis has joined Pig Destroyer as the band's first bass player. John will make his live debut at the bands appearance at the Housecore Film Festival curated by Phillip Anselmo in Austin, TX on October 27th at Antone's. He comments:
"It's an honor to be a part of Pig Destroyer. I'm looking forward to making new music with the guys, as well as adding some 'low end' to the older material live. After being able to see every incarnation of the band live in the past, I can honestly say that the guys are at the top of their game. See you at Big Phil's Housecore Horror Fest!!!"
Founding member and guitarist Scott Hull added: "Having John come into the band adds the ability to expand musically into new territories that we haven't explored yet. For many years we haven't had a bass player or second guitarist because, as JR once put it; 'mo people, mo problems.' But a band is a living organism. Change is good. New blood. New energy. We've had great experiences adding Blake before Phantom Limb and Adam before Book Burner.
"Both additions to the family have had huge positive impacts on the band. We'd thought about adding a bassist for some time, but it always seemed like it would be more of a hassle than anything else. John has come in like a soldier and has mastered everything we've thrown his way. We're excited for you guys to hear how the older material sounds with an expanded low end and can't wait to get to work on new material."
Pig Destroyer released fifth studio album "Book Burner" this past October on Relapse Records.
Scott Hull, guitarist for the legendary grind kings Pig Destroyer, is this month's featured guest on the Decibel Magazine Podcast.
In their first own location podcast, Decibel infiltrated the sordid underworld of Scott Hull's Visceral Sound studio to talk Pig Destroyer, Agoraphobic Nosebleed, the Decibel 100 show and much more. Check out the podcast right here.
Pig Destroyer will be hitting the road this summer for a handful of festivals including Hopscotch Fest (with label-mates Inter Arma and ASG), Basillica Soundscape in Hudson, NY and the Housecore Horror Film Fest in Austin, TX. A complete list of dates can be viewed below.
Frontman JR Hayes commented on the upcoming shows: "In September, we'll be at the Hopscotch Fest where I'm pretty sure we'll be making our NC debut. Only took us 16 years. Oh yeah, and Gorguts will be there to tech-metal your face off. The following Friday we'll be in Hudson NY in an old glue factory for a show/art exhibit masterminded by legendary cult director Matthew Barney. All bets are off for that one. Anything could happen. Pig Destroyer will be hitting the road this summer for a handful of festivals including the GWAR-B-Q, Hopscotch Fest (with label-mates Inter Arma and ASG), Basillica Soundscape in Hudson, NY and the Housecore Horror Film Fest in Austin, TX. A complete list of dates can be viewed below.
Frontman JR Hayes commented on their summer festival appearances: "It's cool 'cause our next few shows should be very unusual and I'm really excited to see what happens. First up there's the GWAR-B-Q, where we'll be laying down some grind in a water park! Alongside my VA brothers GWAR and the Waste. Things can get rowdy down there in Richmond so it should be a lot of fun.
"Then, in September, we'll be at the Hopscotch Fest where I'm pretty sure we'll be making our NC debut.
"We'll be capping things off in late October with a performance at the Housecore Horror festival in Austin TX alongside a list of awesome bands as long as your arm and Goblin doing a live soundtrack to Suspiria. Should be an amazing show." More...
Grindcore act Pig Destroyer has been inducted into the Decibel Magazine Hall of Fame. The band is being inducted for the "Prowler in the Yard" album released in July 2001 via Relapse Records.
"Prowler in the Yard" will see a deluxe remixed and re-mastered reissue via Relapse in the near future. Decibel editor in chief Albert Mudrian spoke about the band's inclusion in the Decibel Hall of Fame:
"Two cover appearances, one album of the year nod (for 2007's Phantom Limb) and one limited-edition live flexi disc for our 100th issue show just wasn't enough Pig Destroyer love from Decibel. So we did the right and honorable thing by FINALLY inducting their landmark Prowler in the Yard record into our vaunted Hall of Fame. Now all that's left to do is to get some of Scott Hull's DNA to mix into our printer inks."
Guitarist Scott Hull also comments: It's such an honor to have PITY inducted in Decibel's HOF. We aren't a group of guys to look back on anything that we've really done, we usually just keep looking forward. When Albert got in touch and said that he was going to induct the record, it gave Jr, Brian, and myself a chance to reflect on how much fun we were having back in 2000-2001 wihout any pressure, without any expectation . . .we were just trying to make a kick ass record for no one but ourselves. Totally DIY, in our basement. It's been a long road since then. The success of PITY meant that we could pretty much keep that MO, as we have pretty much done with all our records since then. I personally want to thank Albert, Kevin Stewart-Panko and the Decibel staff for the recognition and for the thought and care he put into the feature."
Pig Destroyer recently took part in the Decibel Magazine 100th Issue Anniversary Show. At this show, a limited edition flexi was given to all fans attending the event. The Flexi features three exclusive live Pig Destroyer songs.
Although the Flexi cannot be purchased, Decibel Magazine is giving fans the opportunity to check out the tracks online. Check out the stream right here.

Grindcore masters Pig Destroyer have released a never before heard EP entitled "Mass & Volume." This EP is dedicated to the memory of Pat Egan and to the loving family he left behind. Relapse Records comments:
"This is a doom EP and the artwork was created by Arik Roper. The EP is available for purchase at Bandcamp. This is the only format that this EP is available in and all proceeds of this recording will be donated to the college fund of Pat Egan's daughter Katie."
The band spoke about Pat and the EP release: "Pat Egan was a friend and a keystone member of the Relapse family for many of the years we have been involved with it. He devoted his life to supporting underground music and he immeasurably helped develop the bands he worked with. His untimely passing on February 18 2013 shocked the many people that his life and work had touched. More...
