Widow Sunday, which was covered in the Boston edition of our continuing look at underground metal bands, has checked in with the following announcement about returning to the live circuit at a festival next month:
"To Our Dear Friends and Fans,
"It gives me and the rest of Widow Sunday great pleasure to announce that after nearly two years of silence, we will be returning to the stage this August 16th in support of Karmakon 2014!
"We listened to your messages and posts so we figured it was about damn time we got back out there and shook our booties again. The love and support you have shown us during our time away is incredible, and frankly a little surprising. The fact that you guys still care about our music was reason enough to come back and get this party rolling again!
"We are very excited and honored to help celebrate Rock Karma Productions for all the hard work and dedication they have given to the bands they support. RKP helped Widow Sunday in innumerable ways and helped lift us to a new level. Your hard work will not be forgotten!
"We’re very excited to announce some line-up news: Original member Adam Cutler has returned to the fold on rhythm guitar! In addition, performing with us at this show will be Shaun Callaghan of Give Zombies the Vote on lead guitar!
"We are so happy that he’s with us to start this new chapter in the Widow Sunday story, and we can’t wait to share it all with you. So let’s get out there and dance!!" More...
Each week in Unearthing the Metal Underground, we'll be putting a few quality underground bands in the spotlight in an attempt to get the word out about them. This week, we'll weigh in on the scene around Boston, Massachusetts.
Boston has been my home all my life. Back in 2006 when I first started Nefarious Realm Productions, I worked with local bands, promoting and booking shows. It set the foundation of what NRP is today. Boston has an unbelievable scene spanning all genres. Most people only think of the heavy weights like Killswitch Engage, Shadows Fall, fast-rising Revocation, etc., but there lies a wealth of bands that are just mind-blowing. Lunglust, Ramming Speed, Sexcrement, The Summoned, Abnormality, Dysentery, Phantom Glue, Give Zombies The Vote, Morne, Sonic Pulse... I could go on and on but Metal Underground.com has limited me to three, and I'm going to span the sub-genres here. Hang on to your pants, you're going for a ride!
This "dance metal" outfit is sure to get you moving, that be breaking' faces or shakin' your booty. Each member brings distinct influences to the table, fusing elements of death metal, groove metal, hardcore, and electronica. Think of Meshuggah, Lamb of God, Bury Your Dead, and The Browning all smashed together.
The five-piece brings quite a live show with their stage antics and their "have fun" attitude. Widow Sunday just recently released a new EP earlier this summer and are already writing for a followup full length to their 2010 debut, 'In These Rusted Veins.' Below is a video for "Blood Money" from 'ITRV' and a live clip of "The Wave" which appears on the new EP, 'Dance Metal." For more on the band, check out their Facebook.

In other Widow Sunday news, the band is planning several dates for the fall spanning the Northeast and further. Get your dancing shoes ready. "Dance Metal," the follow up to the 2010 full-length "In These Rusted Veins," was recorded with Shane Frisby (Bury Your Dead, Hand of Mercy, Deez Nuts, The Ghost Inside) at the Brick HitHouse and mixed by Pete Rutcho (Vanna, Revocation, Hell Within, Corpus Christi), with artwork done by former guitarist Adam Cutler of Motionless Visions Design.
