Monuments Parts Ways With Drummer

Monuments is officially parting ways with drummer Anup Sastry. The band issued this statement online:

"Anup is stepping down from his position in Monuments. We've had a sick time and we're still good mates. This doesn't effect our touring schedule and all our summer festival shows will go ahead as planned. Huge shout out to Daniel Lang from Red Enemy for filling in on such short notice. First stop Grasspop!"

Anup also had this to say: "As much as I've enjoyed sharing the stage with the band, I’ve unfortunately decided to leave Monuments. Touring with the band just wasn’t for me. I had an absolute blast playing with the group live, and I’m leaving the band on good terms. I was able to see a lot of beautiful places and meet a lot of wonderful people while in the band, and I’m very appreciative and grateful for those experiences.

"This decision is very amicable, and I will surely miss hanging out with everyone. Unfortunately, Monuments just wasn’t for me. I wish the absolute best for Olly, Adam, John, and Chris. Monuments will continue to get on stage and rip it, and I wish the band the best of luck with their future endeavors. I’ll be staying busy with a few projects, which I'm excited to announce and share with everyone in the future.

"I want to thank everyone for all of the amazing and continued support. It really does mean a lot. With all of this being said, here’s my last Monuments play-through video. Enjoy!" More...

Monuments Drops Off Tour

Monuments has been out on tour (without vocalist Chris Barretto) in North America alongside The Contortionist. Unfortunately Monuments is now dropping off the tour early, with the band commenting:

"Friends, We must regrettably inform you that Baltimore will be the last show for us on tour with The Contortionist, Entheos and sleepmakeswaves. We've tried everything in our power to continue to the end of the tour, but financially, we just can't make it happen.

"A huge apology to those of you who were coming to see us at one of the remaining shows, but PLEASE go along and see the tour, buy some merchandise and support live music.

"Thanks to everyone who checked out the instrumental set on this tour. We had a blast. Maximum love to Contorts, Entheos, sleepmakeswaves and all crew for understanding. Yall rule." More...

Monuments Performing Tour Without Vocalist

Monuments has issued the following statement about performing as an instrumental unit on upcoming tour dates:

"Due to some very serious personal issues, our man Chris will not be making it out with us on The Contortionist tour. He needs some time to get these issues taken care of - and we respect that and want to give him the time to get his head straight.

"We will be moving forward with the tour anyways and will be doing it INSTRUMENTAL! Something we've had to do a few times already - so we are confident that we will smash it and make you all proud. To make it a little more awesome for our friends out there, and to make up for the lack of vocals, we will play some lesser performed tracks from 'Gnosis/The Amanuensis\ albums, AND we will also be playing TWO new tracks from album #3...

"Unfortunately in order to do this right we need to rehearse some more - so sadly we will miss our shows at South By South Death tonight and Corpus Christi on the 18th, but we will be playing So What Music Festival and then smashing it with The Contortionist, Entheos, and sleepmakeswaves across North America until May ... see you on the road!" The Contortionist Announces Tour With Monuments

The Contortionist will hit the road yet again this spring and Monuments, Entheos and Sleepmakeswaves will serve as support through the end of April.

"Over the months of touring behind 'Language,' we would imagine an ideal lineup and the same names kept coming up," says keyboardist Eric Guenther. "We always get psyched on tours with huge variety and dynamic shifts through every band."

He goes on to say, "The spring tour is going to be stacked, no exception. We are hitting the road with our friends on a tour we have been working to get together since 'Language' came out. We can't wait to bring this spectacle around the U.S." More...

Metalunderground.com Official Podcast, Episode 23

The Metalunderground.com Official Podcast treads some touchy ground this week. Japanese pop-metal sensation Babymetal, a trio of decidedly illegal adolescent girls, has in 2014 sent the global metal community into equal paroxysms of laughter and rage, depending on whom you ask.

The gossip seemed to have quieted down recently, until several Babymetal photo-op pictures began surfacing on various social media accounts, including one with bassist/vocalist Jeffrey Walker of Carcass. Co-host Mike Smith (OverkillExposure) uses the subsequent reactions to examine just why “metaldom” seems always so eager to vomit bile at easy targets.

Next, it’s review time. Co-host Kevin Perez (n0thinghead) tackles “Amanuensis,” the new album from UK progressive metalcore act Monuments. He and Mike both admittedly struggled with the tongue-twisting title, a word Merriam-Webster defines as “one employed to write from dictation or to copy manuscript.”

Finally comes a shared reaction to the latest teaser for the upcoming (yet still untitled) Slipknot album, and a retrospective discussion on the unlikely Iowan superstars’ meaning and legacy over the past fifteen years. Love them or hate them, their place in history is secure and not to be ignored.

To check out the full array of opinions this week, listen in here. You can subscribe via iTunes or RSS. Enjoy, and don’t hesitate to offer feedback. Even if you want to call us names.
