Described as The Human League meets Sisters of Mercy, dark eclectic band Magenta's latest album, "Art and Accidents," will finally see a North American release on April 10 via Vendlus Music.
Fronted by vocalist Vilde Lockert, MAGENTA was formed in Norway in the summer of 1995 by Anders Odden, whose experience includes stints with bands such as APOPTYGMA BERZERK and CADAVER, as well as recording for SATYRICON, live guitarist with CELTIC FROST and guesting with MINISTRY. Over the years, the band has released a series of albums and singles, as well as a video with MORTIIS, and the current lineup was completed by guitarist Daniel Hill in 2006. Hill’s arrival signalled the start of a new dynamism and creativity for the band, which has culminated in the release of “Art And Accidents” on the All This And Music Too label on February 9.
The band has steadfastly refused to be stereotyped and likes to work outside of the conventional genre definitions, using elements that include rock, pop, metal, trip hop, electro, techno, industrial, new wave, gothic, acoustic, psychedelic, trance and film music. Odden best summed it up his creation like this: “MAGENTA is my playground where I can be as diverse and melodic as I want. Not being tied to any particular genre definition means we don’t have to restrict ourselves too narrowly, and allows us all to make the kind of music we feel like making at any given time. We all have a lot of musical experience in many genres, and as individuals we work with amazingly diverse types of artists, both in the studio and live, and each of us brings something a bit unique to the mix.”
“Art and Accidents” includes guest appearances by GOTHMINISTER, Jonas Groth and Stu Manx from GLUECIFER, and Angel and Geir from APOPTYGMA BERZERK, and is complemented by the release of two specially commissioned videos by Sandra Jensen for the track “Darkest Dream.”

Defunct Norwegian rock 'n' rollers GLUECIFER have posted the following message on their official web site:
"There are future releases on the agenda, but please note that no release dates are yet to be confirmed. Captain Poon [guitar] will produce a 'best of' GLUECIFER with a bonus disc featuring obscure and unreleased material. A DVD from the farewell show at Sentum scene is in the making, looks just fantastic, and it will be released later this year. A new and updated version of the first three records will hopefully be available sometime during 2006. 'Ridin' the Tiger', 'Soaring with Eagles at Night…', 'Tender is the Savage' were all released by Swedish label White Jazz between 1997-2000. Captain Poon says, 'I am just sick and tired of watching the way these records have been treated, even being totally unavailable in so many countries. It's about time to do something about that. The label having the rights for these records today seem to be pretty co-operative though. The band is history now, and the least thing we should do is making the bloody history available for everyone to enjoy.'"
In other news, former GLUECIFER drummer Danny Young has posted the following message on the site:
"I'm back in Norway from LA after six months of going to MI [Musician's Institute]. I took drum lessons there and had a great time hanging out with a lot of fun people. Right before I went back Todd Youth of THE CHELSEA SMILES asked if I would play drums on his new side-project. Todd, who has played with many very well known bands before (DANZIG, D-GENERATION, MURPHY'S LAW and CHROME LOCUST) had 10 songs that Sami Yaffa (HANOI ROCKS and NEW YORK DOLLS) and I were asked to play on. Of course I said yes and we had a great time recording Todd's songs. We also recorded a version of NEW YORK DOLLS' 'Chatterbox'. The album (project and album title not confirmed yet) will be released sometime next year on Acetate Records, so look out for this release coming to a cool record store near you! For updates and demo recordings from this project , you can check out www.myspace.com/toddyouthsheartaches or www.acetate.com."
Norwegian rock 'n' rollers Gluecifer have set a November 15 release date for their DVD, entitled "Royally Stuffed". The disc will feature "almost three hours of Gluecifer stuff, including concert, big interview, all videos, Gluecifer's own tour video plus plus plus," according to a posting on the group's web site.
In other news, Gluecifer have confirmed Captain Murphy and Bonk as the opening bands on their upcoming European tour. "Captain Murphy are from Stockholm, Sweden, and are one of the best bands to come out of that place for years," reads a posting on Gluecifer's web site. "Very groovy stuff with a seventies feel, but not in a lame retro way. More in a cool, heartwarming way. Reports tell about excellent live shows too."
"Bonk are from Oslo, Norway. Their debut album, 'Western Soul', is packed with great tunes played greatly by great people. One of Gluecifer's favorite Norwegian bands this year."
In other news, Martin Kvamme's artwork for Gluecifer's current album, "Automatic Thrill", is included in a book about sleeve and poster art. The book is called "Sonic Visuals for Music" and is published by Die Gestalten Verlag. A lot of other work from Kvamme can also be found in the book that features 320 examples of the best artwork in today's music. Check out Martin Kvamme at www.unitdeltaplus.com.
